Easy, mate!...Couple 'o three feet 'o hardwood dowel, ten inches 'o hard copper wire; twist both ends till ya got three or four wraps, then wind the center on the dowel, slide your slow match (sash cord soaked WELL in gunpowder 'n water, then dried)..and, VOILA!....

Royaliste, you make it sound so easy, I'm going to give it a try!

What diameter copper wire works best?

Jeesh!..After all the demo around there, a foot of 10/2 or 10/3 should be everywhere....strip the coating off, and wrap away..it'll harden with time, as copper does...Make enough turns in each end to support the slow match, then wrap the center....looks sorta like this when done....

Captain William sir, you can find what you want at G. Gedney Godwin. The price on the site is $89.95. They also carry slow match.

Good gunning to ye.

Thank Ye, Capt. Jim. I've always heard that Godwin has good stuff, but is not-cheap. For $90.00, I think I will try my hand at Royaliste's suggestion!

I took yer advice, Royaliste. Fer just a few bucks, got me a dowel, some copper wire, some wood stain, and some 3/16 cotton rope. I want to do a better one, but this will be OK fer the weekend at the Battlefield. I'm using it - this time - just for a prop at my little cannon that I'm not going to be firing - we WILL be firing the big ones - so won't even bother turning the rope into slow match. THIS time! :)

Good on ya, mate!...Nothin' better 'n livin'your history, eh?...If you decide to go the slow match route,(heck, can't beat the aroma therapy!)..The longer you soak the cord in the gunpowder/water mix, and the drier you get it after, the better it works!...Enjoy...We do!

;)
