Desert Island Discs?

Recommended Posts

When I lived in England, they had this show on the radio (outstanding Radio 4 which I LOVE!) where they would have a celebrity/famous person on for an interview but the theme was:

If you were on a desert Island, what pieces of music would you take with you (assuming the means to play it)

and

One book (they give you a Complete Works of Shakespeare and the Bible so you can't choose them)

and One guilty pleasure (some choose chocolate, some an intsrument, toothbrush, some a bag of pot etc)

I will simplify it to what would be your 5 CDs?

Book?

Pleasure?

I'll take a stab at this one:

CDs:

1. Return of the Manticore by ELP (OK, I know I'm cheating here because this is a 5 CD boxed set but . . . PIE-rate!)

2. Soundtrack to the film "Jimi Hendrix," not the new one but a CD of the original that included the killer 12-string version of "Hear My Train A-Comin'"

3. Billy Joel's Greatest Hits

4. ANY version of "Carmina Burana"

5. "Summon the Heroes", John Williams (If you like Williams' soundtracks this is a CD that would blow you away.)

Book: My old Boy Scout Handbook complete with annotations

Pleasure: A state of the art computer with "Civilization: Conquests" and the entire set of "Steel Panthers" games loaded on it.

Be prepared! Blackbead

"In the end, it's not the gold that sets our sails,

'Tis freedom and the promise of a better life

That raises our black flags."

Did I ever mention that I was a Girl Scout?

OK - I would bring The Doors CD - being sure it included Roadhouse Blues, LA Woman, Light My Fire, Love Her Madly, & Love me 2 Times...

Beatles White Album would have to be #2 So I could hear my favorite Birthday song when needed...

And a little Zep would get me over the hump~

Rummy,

I never dated any Girl Scouts but I have eaten a few Brownies! ;)

Just kidding! I am NOT a child molester!!

But I DO like it when Captain Jasper dresses up in her cheerleader outfit . . .

Wait a minute . . . was that my external voice??

Ya know, The Doors are one of those groups that I never think about until I start thinking about some of their incredible songs. And I'd like to know more about this "little Zep" since I would love to have some help getting over the hump! ;) Just kidding, of course, Led Zeppelin is another incredible band!

I think that's why this was such a great topic and one that was so hard so respond to - it's VERY difficult to pick only five CDs and INCREDIBLY difficult to pick only ONE book!

Ahhh - the music of the 70's is perpetual. Brownies, ye say? Hmmmmmm Well, I suppose Pyrate Phil would have somehting philosophical to say about that! I forgot to add my book - I think it would be a book of love sonnets - including Elizabeth Barratt Browning and others. (gotta have some romance while alone on my island!) ;)

Wow this is a tough one,

I know i would have some Aerosmith Cd,s , and since I have been thinking of learning a new language, a cd of learning the French language and a cd of the Galic language,

My book would actually be a journal (natrually i would have to smuggle a pen)

Guilty Pleasure - I have so many ;) its too hard to choose,
