Pirates in Texas?

41 posts in this topic

Just curious to know if there are any other pirates in the great lone star state. The only events I know of that might attract such scurvy dogs would be the Scarborough Fair (alas, already past) or the big Texas Rennesance Festival (not untill October). Anyone know if there any other pirate events in these parts?I know we have a local SCA, but I don't know if there are any pirates in the group...

Aye 'tis be true.

I know that the colony has a festival one a year. Next year it be the 17th and 18th of October.

If only there were more sooner.

Also there be a renaissance faire, i think in april or may next year.

Anyone know of anything sooner than that?

Texas fella here, too.

The big festivals that have anything to do with pirating around here are (that I know of):

1. Scarborough Faire

2. The Pirate Days of the Colony

3. The Texas Renaissance Festival

4. The Middlefaire...erm...faire?

These are all late summer fests except for Scarborough which does indeed start 4 April.

The only thing earlier than that (that I know of) is an event up in Oklahoma in January.

Hello there. I'm in Corpus Christi. Wish the state weren't so damned big. Just a trip to austin is enough miles to cross a state or two in most areas of the country. We've got Buc Days (short for buccaneer) down here but it's long lost the pirate associations. I've always thought it would be fun to organize something down here to coincide with that. That's in mid spring.

Yep, may sounds about right. A dozen or so years ago somebody did try to organize something somewhat piratey. The coliseum was turned into a darkened tavern with belly dancers and such. Not the best turnout though and I'm not sure who was organizing it. Otherwise, I've never really seen a good buccaneers connection to buccaneer days.

Well then I feel a change in the wind..tis time we do something about that!

As for Pyrate week it's the same time as Pyratecon and I have been told Pyrate week is a blast and as I have never been I do not really know other that what I have heard and been told.

In case anyone is interested, I am the captain of a pirate crew that is more geared towards the GLBT community based in Dallas, TX, but is open to anyone as long as they have an open mind. We are also geared towards the Hollywood stereotype, mainly for comfort reasons.

Thought about going to Bucdays a while back, but after researching their website it doesn't look like a real pirate thing, probably why they shortened the name from Buccaneer Days to Bucdays. Corpus Christi is a really neat city though, too bad.
