And from the exaggerated style of the painting I would say that is was created for satirical impact. My occupational hazard bein' my occupation's just not around... Commodore Swab Posted February 8, 2014 Share Posted February 8, 2014 A good read, What I was able to gather is that shoes were preferable to be worn aboard ship, although they often had to be replaced as they would not last long.
