I was curious, what is the current status of period correct shoes for the reenacting community?

As far as I know, the top ones are still:

>>Sarah Juniper (UK)

http://www.sarahjuniper.co.uk/

>>Andy Burke (UK)

http://www.andyburke.co.uk/index.htm

>>Loyalist Arms (Nova Soctia)

http://www.loyalistarms.ca/shoesandsandals.html

*Loyalist also offers the best period buckles too (they are actually the correct size). Just email them about it.

I would put Reconstructing history, but their shoes aren't listed anymore on their site. Beyond, is there anything new out there for makers? As far as I know, all the other shoes out there are later 18th century shoes or English Civil War era shoes.

Also, has anyone ever seen these shoes mentioned on this page called the " (Early 18th Century) Colonial Buckle Shoe"? I would love to see pictures: http://www.jarnaginco.com/1812%20footwear.htm

I own a pair of Sarah Juniper shoes, hand-made to measure to fit my feet exactly, in exactly the style I wanted, using only period materials and techniques. I've only had them about 5 years or so, but I have friends who own Sarah Juniper shoes that are 25+ years old and still going strong. Worth it? Worth every penny.

Remember how I asked about the C& D Jarnagin Shoes ( http://www.jarnaginco.com/1812%20footwear.htm ) and if anyone had seen them before? Well, I found a review of them: http://www.bilgemunky.com/pirate-reviews/clothing/early-18th-century-colonial-buckle-shoe/

I only wish there was a picture of the side of the shoe.

Hey look, here is an example of a pair Sarah Juniper made recently. They are based on the 1706 Admiralty Slop Contracts, which are as follows: "Double Sold Shoes, round Toes, at the Rate of Four Shillings per pair. Brass Buckles with Iron Tongues at the Rate ofThree Pence per pair." They use "neats" leather (which means cow leather) as later contracts specify.

The Album for the shoes is here: https://pyracy.com/in...-sarah-juniper/

(would post a picture here, but it appears to cause the thread to have an internal server error)

My two pence on Loyalist Arm's shoes - Best Around! Have had mine now since their first batch and still hanging in strong! As for buckles - I have worn through Three Pair now - shoes last longer then the buckles themselves - and Yes, just e-mail Loyalist, or give them a call and they will send ye a pair of buckles in no time at all (well, about two or three weeks to arrive on the west coast)

Thats good to know. I bought shoes from Loyalist because they are the best looking shoes for their price and have the correct buckles.

@ GoF

Thank you for the manual how to fit that kind of buckles on the latches. It helped a lot.
