Museum funding cut!

Recommended Posts

Calling out to the Brotherhood: This Saturday, May 28th, the Civil War Museum at Port Columbus, GA is holding a support rally.

This venue is not only a great educational source, but also the site for the annual Southern Pirate Festival which is dear to many of us.

The city of Columbus is proposing a 70% budget cut which will, in effect, shut the museum down.

Those of us in The Cursed Few, that are able to, will be going out in garb to show our support.

Please consider joining us in the effort to save this Georgia jewel..

HOIST THE COLORS!!!

I know that many of our fellow pirates live too far to attend the rally. It would be a great help if you could help spread the word about what is going on. If any of you have a facebook account, you can go to the Port Columbus Civil War Naval Museum page. There is a link posted in there with the article about the proposed budget cut. We would be much obliged if you would take the time to click on the link and let the City of Columbus know that they are foolishly proposing to force the closing of the only Civil War Naval Museum in the south. This building houses the remnants of the ironclad CSS Jackson. She was set on fire and was left to drift in the river. She sat at the bottom of the river for 90 years. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If the museum budget is cut, it will only be a matter of time before her doors are shut. Not only will we lose a great piece of American history, we will also lose the Southern Pirate Festival.

Unfortuneately, we're having the same issue here in NC-they just passed the bill to shut down many NC State historic sites, including the colonial capital of New Bern, Tryon Palace. It's probably the biggest colonial site we've got, and I do believe they were thinking the same for the Albemarle Maritime Museum and cutting a big chunk out of the same at Beaufort (flagship museum of the QAR exhibit). Rotten, rotten rotten, all the way 'round.

If you're gonna swing, swing for the fences...if you're going after Jaws, bring along the tartar sauce.
