McDrago,

I have a pair already made and ready to go. I made them too small for the intended person, who happens to be about the same size as me, so I can;t use them for myself. They are historically accurate in design. They should fit someone in the 32" to 34" waist range. They are a medium brown colour in a light weight wool with a linen lining. Let me know if you are interested, and make me a reasonable offer. Please note they are hand sewn. I just need to add buttons to finish them, I can do brass or pewter buttons at your preference.

For picture, find a picture of Mission from PiP this year, if he is wearing brown breeches, they are the same.

Here's a look at what they look like from the side....

Thankee lad, be me waist is a wee bit bigger than those. I normally wear a 42-44. A stout pirate tis what I be. So although a kindy offer, t'would only fit one leg.

Ya would think bein' as this place be full o' pirates some of the brethren would direct me course ta the right port.

Perhaps a winsome lass, who be good w' a needle?

I like th' ones I got from Black Bear Historical Clothing. My first pair where Drop Front but I made th' mistake of trying to request a pair with leg cuffs cut for buckles, some how they did not understand and made them 'lace up' (no buttons at all), but the color was right and th' fit was fine. Recently I got me a pair o' their button front, but did not try t' have them alter anything (would still like t' have buckles thou).

Their prices are fair, th' pants are built t' last, fully lined inside! Ye can choose yer colors and material (both mine are all linen). However I do not really like their choice o' pewter buttons so I ordered some bass ones, then stripped th' coating with turpentine, hung them over some ammonia overnight, then laid them on a rag soaked in white vinegar another night, then hung them over th' ammonia for a third night, now they are about 100 years old and having sailed all seven seas!

(but I stole a couple fancy buttons off some rich governor after I killed him and I display them on me pant legs)

Oh, and Black Bear Historical Clothing's turn around times have been fairly quick as well....but I hear they do have off times depending on th' season.

:::Rummages about:::

Sorry, sir. I've only two breeches with the fall front fly and not th' french button front. And they unfortunately are a smaller waist size, too. Sorry. :P

If ever I have a pair up for grabs, I'll give ye a holler... sound good? ;)

Thankee mate. I ordered some button fly duck breeches from them yesterday. I spoke with the owner and he seemed quite savy fer a landlubber. He said 'bout a month, but p'haps sooner be more likely.

Now I be needin' some socks. I looked at thiers but they be no havin' black ones in cotton. Wool seems a bit warmish fer me.

I like Townsed & Son's socks, they have black ones in cotton. Their socks are only $8 and I have a couple white ones what lasted all year and will still wear them again this year. They have fine stripped ones I wear too. They usually deliver in about a week's time for me!

Townsend & Son's socks

Ye can always get th' white ones then paint them black with some fine Stockholm Tar: Fine smell'n Stockholm Tar!

Ah, me baldric; that be one o' Barbossa Leather's creations it be! Fine leather smith indeed he is, will only do a design once so start thinking of what he desire for he will not copy any previous designs.

While I was impressed with the Kraken he displays on his web he absolutely refused t' do any even similar. So, after we spoke over th' phone a while and I described me persona (me battles with sharks 'n sea monsters) and discussed some o' th' trophy charms I wear upon me person from said battles, we concluded on a design with a shark and a one o' a kind sea serpent (I have a long true life history with herpetology and snakes, goes back t' around th' age o' 5). From that he fashioned me a fine leather carving o' a great white shark and then laid a sea serpent upon me shoulder.

He gets his buckles he says from someone in England, they are POTC replicas (like what Acme Brands now offers, but IMO better made) and they are of solid cast, NOT the cheap ones ye see on Ebay that people say fall apart (poor soldering from what I have in people's complaints). Unfortunately those are all that he has, or it was when I got me own baldric from him.

The scabbards are right nice, not machine made, but hardened and 'formed' leather. He makes th' scabbard t' fit the Jack Sparrow (cheap version, not Windlass) sword but I was able t' send him a carefully drawn tracing o' me own sword (what is Windlass version) and gave him th' thickness measurement and he was able t' fashion me one that fit it PERFECTLY!.

He be a fine craftsman, sent me photos as he worked t' keep me informed and asked if I was pleased as th' design came together.

Now I have made two alternations to it from what he sent me; I changed out three of the buttons with ones I got from another, ones made of coin (rather replica, but no one need know that....shshshshsh) and I added a hole for t' hold th' scabbard firm. Recently I have purchased a Will Turner buckle from Acme for it be a bit more true t' period and changed out th' buckle now with a brass square Turner buckle (still seeking one more t' me fancey...do not know what it will be but I will know when I see it). Nice thing is he uses Chicago Screws (ya sure, not period but hey - at least it makes changing things MUch easier - and who needs to know they 'screw' on?!)

Now mind ye, Barbossa Leather tis Not cheap, they come at a price, but IMO he does work what be worth it! And he promises each one will be 'original' so there will not be 10 others at faire wearing yer exact baldric so we will have t' wait for it as he makes each one t' order, no 'off the shelf' stuff here:

Thankee again mate, but unless I digs me up a treasure chest or go on the account soon, twill be no chancet o' getting one of these. I will keep on using me old baldric as it doesn't look new. I was never a seein' those Will Turner buckles, so ifn' ye have a pic, would ya kindly post em.

Regarding making brass look old, I likes yer idea of using ammonia fer this, as me sword hilt, chape, throat, baldric buckle all needed aging. Me lady however, would make me walk da plank, ifn' I was ter do it inside our cabin. Since there is no way I am leavin' me parts outside fer to be pilfered, I seem ta be out o' luck on doin' this. Unless o' course ye would like ter help out a mate. I would be glad ter pay a few coins ter get this done as I likes it not being a "shiney-new" pirate.

Avast mate!

Me lady ordered and paid for a pair of button front duck breeches in a nice reddish nutmeg brown color [it looked that way ta me from his website]. They arrived quick enough, but they were a really ugly yellowish brown. They fit nicely though, and looked great. I spoke to Rick and he said to send 'em back and he would email some pics o' other duck colors they had on hand. Hearin' naught for several days, I emailed him and got no reply. I emailed him again, sent him a pic o'me and asked if he could get a color close to me bandana....still nothing. Then I called the blighter up and he said he could do 'er in linen in fer $15 more and he would invoice me. Waited....nothing. Sent him another email....nothing. It had been 2 weeks since I sent the pants back so I called him and he said he had not been in the office. Me microsoft said he had read ALL me emails. Had he not been to work fer days?....or was he lyin' ta me or what? He said he would invoice me, but here it is almost Monday and naught has arrived. Me lady is highly put out and said somethin' about findin' the sorry swab and removin' some body part w' her cutlass! I know ye had some problem's MadL, but this is beyond belief! Anyone else had any problems with this....and I say it with utmost doubt....gentleman?

Odd, th' only 'problem' I had with Black Bear was with me first pair I ordered, I requested 'buckle' cuffs and described them as 'tabs on both sides'; instead they came with No 'tabs' and All button holes for lacing... :D

And yes, when I complained they said there would be a charge t' correct...but th' color was indeed what I had expected.

I do naught know about yer 'ugly yellow', nutmeg is itself a brownish/red color. I do know matching color over th' internet is seriously a flawed account - I had a pair from a Florida maker that I returned...th' color was fine, but some how "linen" translated into "wool" , I suppose even printed words tend t' look different on different monitors :D

Naught sure about th' communication break down, however Black Bear tis not actually a 'pirate' group but more a 'Civil War/Colonial' type group so their faire time be different, and sometimes goes much longer then our wee So. Cal shows go, they can be 'out of the office' for weeks even months at a time so I usually try t' catch such places around end o' year or Jan/Feb for by late Feb they can be rough group t' catch up to....even our own west coast Blackbeard vendor can become a month or more between responses; tis th' way it be with true show folks.

Sorry t' hear ye have had this much issue with them; me last pair o' button front linen came speedy indeed, but naught "perfect" I would say; had a tailor measured me for them they would surely fit looser (but they are 'off the rack' so me wide girth accepts th' fact), and if I could walk into a place, I had hoped they would be a bit 'darker' perhaps even a bit 'redder' as in me drop front from th' same maker, but I learned a long time ago that when choosing colors over th' internet ye make a best shot and get something close t' yer target - all depends on th' quality o' photo taker, th' lighting when/where th' photo was taken, their monitor's calibration t' yer own, and even th' ambiant color(s) from th' surroundings where the photo be taken can all play in giving a much incorrect image of what th' true article's tone be....again, sorry t' hear ye ran int' such an issue, I had similar issue with a leather maker (east coast) where I thought for a while that me coin was long gone, but then it finally came, then I spent a entire year t' get me shoes (plus extra coin for shipping t' return th' first pair) but once they came I can naught be happier with them.

Have ye checked their site for a calendar o' events he travels to? That may give ye an idea o' best times t' contact?

I know o' th' three I have had, and one returned, theirs has been th' finest made. They fully line th' inside and me last pair lasted a whole year and probably will do a few more. Ones from Jas Townsend are not lined, I found them far too thin however that may be more true t' period but certainly would naught last long, naught with th' way I go through cloth...color on th' other hand, VERY hard t' find what ye want on th' net, what 'looks' brown is red, what 'looks' grey is green...bloody Internet be color blind I think

Well, I gots me pants...finally! Linen o' course. Yep, lined too. Fits me perfect, 'cept at Southern Faire, whilst running down the isles bein' chased by washer wimmen, me foine new pants almost dropped ta the tops o' me bucket boots! Not good! I had ta finallly add some new waist adjusment holes in the back o' me pants and then the problem was fixed.

Here is a pic o' meself an me Cap'n at Cutthroats o' Corona....I be wearing said pants:

Adjustment holes in th' back? Mine came with th' standard laced adjustment in back, yer's did naught?

Remember that linen does Stretch and especially so when damp - ye did naught damp yer self now did ye?? B)

I still be wear'n mine from them, lost a wee bit o' weight lately so I took them in a couple inches me self, just folded o'er an inch on each side an' sow'd them down.

Miss'd ye at Cutthroats, I was there all day Sunday (I think it twas Sunday?) - real let down actually, I found half th' merchants from last yarrr did not set up, other then th' one stage there was no activity at all t' speak of, Double Cross came up from th' way back fer a quick black powder demo; other then that there was really noth'n t' see or do all day other then listen t' th' Doxie Chx 'n Cherry Tarts....kinda sad, but hey, THREE events all at once over lapp'n was a bit much B)

Aye laddie. Thar be laces in t'back, but I already had 'em all t'way closed. Nar, I did'n let them washer wimmen soak me. So's that weren't t'problem. Anyways they be better now. Sulterjon made me a new belt so that helps too. Dropped anchor at 3 events in the past month and yer weren't at none o'them. Bad luck...says I. Yer werent' at CHOC Pirates this year neither....Ya didn't miss much, I warrant. Read me post on how it were. Will ye be setting sail fer Belmont Pier for the Pirate Days? If so, I will be a droppin' anchor there on Saturday.

I still has somethin' fer ya.

hmm, well I start'd out th' yarrr at LORE, then hit all three Mallary & McCall fund rais'n events (one be'n Ojai Ren faire), then march'd in th' Swallow's Day Parade with Buccaneers of Tortuga & NQG, then it twas off fer two weekends at Escondido Ren faire (That was was GRAND!) and hit up Cutthroats in th' middle as well as squeez'd out a weekend at Irwindale Ren faire.....then I got food poison'd along th' way some where (one o' th' crew most likely) and that laid me up for more then a whole week (and lost 5 lbs, without eating!!) so that made me miss th' Buccaneer Beach Blank BB-Q; I had t' skip CHOC as me daughter graduated that day, I had plan'd on go'n for th' last couple hours but we did not get out of the auditorium until after 8:30pm so I just went t' dinner with me new dental assistant snipe (now if I can just teach her t' bring ME th' gold teeth she pulls! oh, 'n how t' fleece them patience after she puts them under!!!).

Aye, I will be at LB, but now that I be back on me feet I will first be hitt'n up Nor Cal! Thar also be that new one next month in Simi as well.
