1stMate Matt Posted December 17, 2008 Share Posted December 17, 2008 95 Layer Damascus Boarding Cutlass by Kerry and Matt Stagmer. This little beauty is 95 layers of 15N20 and 4130. The blade is one hard little cutter. I don't have an exact weight on it right now, but I would say it is right around the 2lbs mark if not under. It feels ultra light in the hand. We used cocobolo again for the handle. She doesn't have a home yet. We made her just for fun. I was thinking about doing a cutting demo with it, but I havn't had the time. This is the 2nd in damascus boarding cutlass in a line that we hope to have at least a dozen for next year. The first was a cable cutlass that was featured in the fall issue of Pirates Magazine. The next one I want to do is either going to be a multi bar twist or a feather pattern blade. Dude, I don't mind sharing my process at all. I will would be happy to start another step-by-step thread. I do have a few tutorials on my website of doing some damascus swords from start to finish and I plan on adding a ton more tutorials soon. Some makers dont like to share anything. I for one believe that if you educate your customer on your methods that everyone benifits.
