My new knife design

These are the first two in a new series that I will be doing. The prototype (top) of this piece was clayed up and has a hamon that is hard to get a picture of. The handle was made from the end of an old Oak ore.

The 2nd(bottom) one I made for a friend that wanted an exotic wood instead of just oak. Bubinga is what we decided on. I left the wood unfinished because he wanted to finish it himself. The guards are 1/4" cold rolled that I slightly dished and filed around the outside and then polished.

Both are razor sharp.

About 14.5" OAL

Comments welcome as always. This not historically pirate but I made it for a buddy of mine that will be carrying it as his camp knife for most of his pirate events. He does the games at the blackbeard festival is Hampton. Some of you must know him.

Thanks. I had blast making them. I dont do much wood work. My brother Kerry often does most of the wood handles. I got inspired and just went with it. Seems my work turns out much better when I don't plan too much and just go with the flow.

For the record. The first one is still for sale with the Oak handle. I will have it at the FLPF this weekend.

So Matt I'm curious... Do you ever make a blade (or any weapon) and find it hard to to part with? Since blood, sweat, and tears can go into the production of these lovely items to you have to sometimes force yourself to let them go?

I just sold the first knife of this set this past weekend. It was hard to let go let me tell ya. I loved that guy. It went to someone that wanted it more then I. I try to price things that way. :) It was a long term great customer of mine and one hell of a sword fighting pirate.
