Steam Punk.....

Oh, I've been lurking at BG for a while, just out of curiosity, and yes, they do have some folks there who are pretty obsessed. They also make a big deal about how "civil" the forum is, but I've read a few threads that broke down into some pretty hot arguments (I loved one man's rant against cell phones at the Burning Man festival). But you find that with any group, I think.

As for the PC stuff. I never knock it and I admire those who achieve it. I try to be a close to PC as I can, but I'm not a purest either. And to be honest, I like a little "flash" on my garb. Nothing extream, but certainly nothing you'd find in period. The Steamers don't have locked-down PC restrictions, but yeah, there are perameters within which you'd want to stay.

It's the goggle thing that cracks me up. EVERYONE must have a pair of goggles — and a pocket watch.

(Then again, I guess us pirates are just as bad — all those cutlasses, pistols, and tricorn hats.)

I might play around at Brass Goggles, but I would NEVER give up the Pub. I have too many friends here! And let's face it, being a pyrate is a lot more fun, which is why they have airship pirates.

Yah, people keep asking me if I've given up on Pyracy.... NO WAY... going to the Northern California Pyrate festival next week, and of course PIP.... I might miss Ojai this year ... depends if I have enough money left after Burning Man...

But Steampunk gives me another outlet to make stuff....(and I'm starting to dress nicer for everyday wear....)

(OK... that's not what I wear everyday.....But it does show the goggles....... )

It is all about the goggles

That was the first thing I made, just didn't seem to be right not making them myself...

I don't have a pocket watch yet, just a pocket watch ammeter to measure amps and small container for my Altoids

Wow...those are nice outfits Captain Pogue and Patrick. You all look very debonaire. In another forum I post on that focuses on Disney's Haunted Mansion we have alot of folks dress up in Victorian wear (goth too, o' course). I love the look, but haven't put much focus into aquiring garments for it at this point.

Perhaps we'll meet again under better circumstances. ---(---(@

For women it can get kinda pricey. Thankfully Steampunk let's you fudge intead of being PC. My' wife's shirt is from Target, her dress she got at a women'd clothing store in the mall on sale... The cape is antique though and the corset was a bit pricey. Were as my vest and shirt cost $50 from a Mr. Formal tux rental and sales place. It is fun looking for stuff that will work. It's more difficult to do with Pirate stuff and try and keep it PC.

I heard recently the reason 'Pocket watches went out of style was because men stopped wearing vest after the victorian age as normal wear..The vest back then always had a pocket specifically for the watch.

Wrist watches became a popular replacement for pocket watches..

I saw My first "Steam Punk Pirate" at NorCal and am intrigued by the limitlessness of the imagination of the victorian age as well as the mechanisms of motion and transportation as previously posted.

Hangin at Execution dock awaits. May yer Life be a long and joyous adventure in gettin there!
As he was about to face the gallows there, the pirate is said to have tossed a sheaf of papers into the crowd, taunting his audience with these final words:

Any reason to play dress up works for me!

Hey, Eyes, head for the Brass Goggles forum. You'll find a lot of familier faces, even if the names have been changed to protect the innocent! <_<

Dang.... Burning Man is about two months away, and I don't have much of my stuff made yet.... I keep reasuring myself that it will all work out.... after all, the same thing happens before PiP each year, and that works out.....

Lets see.... still have to make the tent, a cot, some wooden chests, (not that kind, but it would be funny...) finnish my Dino Gun, and make an Air Pyrate outfit.....

Patrick, can't you use the tent you have? Or are you making one bigger? Since Steampunk is also into the explorer persona, I don't think your airship pirate would have a fancy tent. If you could use your current one, at least it would be one less thing on your "to do" list.

BTW, I really liked your post on BG on the "How old are you" thread. Your answer was perfect!
