Round two of Pyrate Sketchbooks

Patrick Hand

Recommended Posts

The first round of the Pyrate Sketchbooks isn't quite over yet..... but it was soooo much fun, and starting the second round on Halloween is just too much fun to pass up......

I think we have all the problems ironed out.... (more in a later post)

Here's how it works....

Everyone that wants to participate, post thier name and approxamately where they live.... (so I can figure out the most efficient mailing route)

Then you get a sketchbook (more about this in a later post)

You do about 4 - 6 pages of whatever you want in the sketchbook... kinda set th' mood....

On or befor the first of the month, you mail the sketchbook to the person after your name on "the List"......

Depending on how many other Pyrates are playing will determine how long it will take to get your sketchbook back.....

Well.... wot if I can't draw, ye may say...... It don't matter says I..... the object is to get submissions (that be a fancy word fer somethin' ye put inter th' sketchbooks) Stick figures and funny pyrate stickers with captions are cool...... Hey... This isn't a contest...... it's the fact that fun Pyrates did something fun in the sketchbooks........

I'll post it later, but check out the "Girl Pyrate Comic book" and some of the post (somewhere else.... I'll post a link to that latter)

This is just the first post.... more info in a ( I'll give ye three guesses.....)

later post........

I'm very interested, I just need to ask some questions

How long do you have before you need to mail out another pirates sketch book? A few days, a few weeks, or is there a mailing schedule that everyone follows?

About how much does the average book cost to ship and what method of shipping is recommended?

How many pages should you fill in other pirates sketchbooks?

Originally, I tried to get the books out every two weeks, but it bacame clear that wasn't enough time to do the artwork. So, the time-frame got changed to once a month.

The cost would depend on the size of the sketchbook you use. Average mailing seemed to be anywhere from 5 - 7 dollars. I don't recommend the book-rate mailings, since it can take weeks for a book to travel to the next artist in line.

The number of pages you choose to do is up to you. When we went from two weeks to a month in between, it gave everyone plenty of time to do as many pages as they wanted. Some did only three or four, some did up to eight or nine.

As for me, I don't think anything rated R would be too bad, just don't go to X. I want to be able to show my friends all the artwork, and not have to cover certain pages with a brown paper bag. LOL!

For all who want to play, as both myself and Patrick have said, it's for fun. It's not a contest. You can use anything from crayons, stickers, clip art, photos, to whatever.

It's really fun!

Ooh this sounds fun! How do I get in on it?!

Just say ... "Ooh this sounds fun! "..... get a sketchbook.... and play....

I will be posting some more info realy soon...... but it is a fun project......

In the near future, I will be editing the first post.... (kinka like what we do in the who's going to PiP thread) so it will list people that wanna play.....

Ransom listed a lot of the things we learned durring the first round.... and I will be posting the "what to do if something goes wrong" realy soon..... (and repeating some of what Ranson already typed....)

The first round was a LOT of fun.... we learned some things..... so now the second round will be fun also.......

But Dang.... it realy is soo much fun to get someones Sketchbook.... see what other Pyrates have contributed... and then get to add your own stuff to it.......

Just a quick note for those wanting to play and thinking about what kind of book to get. Unless you make your own sketchbook, like Patrick did, the best place to look is your local art store. They have inexpensive spiral-bound (nice cause they lay flat) books and you can decorate the cover yourself. I recommend these because the paper is a bit heavier than regular notebooks, and stands up to the different types of artwork better.

Maybe this time I better buy a case of double-faced tape! B)B) I go through tons of the stuff.
