Gun Qustions

Bartholomew Roberts is noted in "A General History" for carrying two pairs of pistols on a silk sling over his shoulders.

I also recommend "Captured by Pirates" by John Richard Stephens.

In SAC in the early '80's we carried M-870's and M-12 shotguns during weapons movements (along with flak vest, helmet, M-17 gas mask). Always thought we could use more ammo (wait, that's what the SP's were for- M-16, M-16/M-203, M-60), but I could never convince my boss we could use the 18" bayonets that were pictured in the tech order...

Yours, Mike

Try these for starters- "A General History of the Pyrates" edited by Manuel Schonhorn, "Captured by Pirates" by John Richard Stephens, and "The Buccaneers of America" by Alexander Exquemelin.

When Robert Chinton (one of Every's men) escaped from jail in Philadelphia he had with him two pistols and a musket.

We-ell, since it was commonly believed at the time that he had escaped with the connivance of the jailer I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they were his own arms.

I'm no expert... But I have been looking into period firearms a LOT lately, and I haven't seen anything like that.

I've seen some clips on the side of a pistol before (think spring metal belt clip). Another option which is a bit of an extrapolation, but I think solid is silk ribbons or straps. Wrap both ends of the silk ribbon around the handle (for a more comfy grip too  ) tie them securely, and leave enough silk to make a pseudo-bandolier style sash. The whydah "Sun King" pistol was found with a length of decorative silk wrapped around the handle, so this might actually be something that was done. You would probably need a good six foot length of stout silk ribbon (at least an inch and a half wide) to do this though.

Nor had I...it just came to me while looking at the parts...then today I found this:

Look at the gun in the upper left hand corner...I think it's later (percussion?), but it has the same I'm idea going...

I'm not getting a clear picture of what yer describing...I keep seeing the pistols slipping out from the ribbons tied around their handles...might have to wait until I actually have one in hand to understand yer concept...

Take a look here...

You'll find an image or two (of me) with a pistol ticked into a belt, with a ribband around the handle...

Hope this helps...

1.Aye, the ribband does a nice job, that pistol happens to belong to BlackJohn, I have a similar one with a belt clip.

2. Thankee kindly, since that event I've added a navy blue sailors short jacket to my kit. I was dressed in my best at that event.

3. Ah, the right coast has good stuff, but the left coast has happenings years round I believe, whereas we have 'seasonal' events... so, give and take...
