POTC Series

Rats

Recommended Posts

No kind of rumors or anything...

I had just been jaw jacking with a neighbor about the GAoP reenacting and he mentioned how it would be great to have a series...

I mentioned some would probably get sick of just Jack and it would have to be more of a made for cable series.

Anyone remember the hitchhiker series where they had a fellow narrate then it went into the story line???

I thought it would be cool to have Jack in there sometimes, but other times develope other characters or background stories... Kinda like in the Deadwood series.

Just thought I'd throw this out there, since I'm sure we all like the films in our own way...Plus you can never get too many historically based films or series.

take care

Ever see the cable series Deadman's Gun??

I agree it could even be whole new characters shown only once or twice for a 2 part episode. Then have little cameos of known characters...

I'd love to see it

Heck yeah, me too! I think it would be great!

Interesting... there is a Canadian production being shot starting in September of this year... actually Cap'n John and I will likely be hosting the series.. we sat down with Civilized Productions 2 years back and hammered out the show.. it's finally starting to shoot.. so we r very pumped about it...

but like it was said ... NEVER too many Pirate Shows....:ph34r::ph34r::ph34r:

Great looking show. Good luck on it!!

Slight flaw in the episode descriptions...

We'll also take a look at "Home Sweet Home" and their culture on land, and visit the many places that Pirates landed to relax, and refresh supplies and manpower, that have become some of today's popular tourist spots and major cities; from Port Royal in Jamaica to Macau in the South China Sea.

Port Royal is neither a tourist spot or a major city. Today it is a sleepy fishing village of 1200 residents. There are few remnants of piracy left, since the town was destroyed not only by the earthquake of 1692, but hurricanes in 1711, 1722, a major fire in 1901 and another huge hurricane in 1952. Prior to the earthquake it was the economic rival of Boston and housed 8000 people. But the earthquaked killed 2000 outright and 3000 more died of injuries and disease. Port Royal was never the same, since two-thirds of the city literally sank into the harbor. Even representations of the GAoP of Port Royal have it all wrong. It was never again a pirate haven. In fact. Calico Jack was hung there in 1725 for piracy.

Just like to keep the record straight on my favorite place in the world.

don't think the producers were eluding the fact that Port Royal exists todayas a tourist destination.. they were looking at the history of the cities ports etc... but i had the same complaint on another description for the first series.. stating that archaeologists refer to times predating Egyptian culture as prehistoric... I'm an archaeologist and i took offense to that comment..lol

so they r going to reword it.. i told them it was misleading... as we don't think like that at all.. so i'll just fire off another email re the wording on the Pirate one as well.. LOL B)

Thanks - I've become something of a fanatic on the subject - can't stand the Hollywood misrepresentations showing PR being on the shoreline of a mountainous region and such. PR is flat as a pancake. When the tsunami rolled across the harbor it was 20 feet and innundated everything except Fort Charles, which of course, is not on the edge of a cliff. :)

Sorry POTC lovers. Port Royal hates what they did in the movie. And I just found out they really hate Keith Richards because of his pirating of native Jamaican music and claiming it as his own. Guess he's a better pirate than we all imagined.

On the subject, I think the masses will be at burnout point soon on pirates. It comes and goes in cycles. At least it has been for the last 25 years I've been pirating. The overcommercialisim is what's going to kill the market, not the movies. Can't blame Disney for cashing in but renaming Tom Sawyer Island is going a bit far, since the love of a genre can whiplash on you just as quickly... such is pop culture compared to the classics such as Twain. Just my 2¢.

well Hurricane.. as usual with a pop culture.. it has it's surges and ebbs..

and POTC3 is still fueling the fire at the moment.. but i agree with what u said about the public.. i am a veteran of Ren /Pirate festivalsnow for about 20 some odd years... and the faires have their regulars but whenever u get a movie out there that becomes a hit (like Knights Tale.. or POTC) the public can't get enough of pirates or the middle ages etc... thankfully or not.. depending on u're view.. Hollywood and pop culture does manage to keep us in jobs or hobbies by often misguiding the public on the history of the world... :o

Oh, I so agree. Thankfully, it's kept us all in one level of "employment" in the trade or another. I'm just sensing burnout. Too much merchandising, hype and hangers on. Something's always got to give in pop culture.

Yeah, when POTC first came out, there was some fun, cool pirate things in the stores. But now, sheesh, tons of cheap junk - put a skull and CB's on anything, and sell it as "pirate" gear/game/toy, etc. That's what is going to kill the pirate craze eventually. **I have a visual of land fills everywhere piled high with grinning skulls on tons of dead toys  **

...schooners, islands, and maroons

and buccaneers and buried gold...

Aye, Rats....

A TV series may be something rather interesting. PLENTY to work with really. The issue is... would it be live action or animated?

Again there is plenty to work with. Take a bit of history or lore and add in some fiction or fantasy. If ya like it, ya like it... if ya don't you don't.

I've known MANY shows I once watched growing up that had historical and real place worked into something fictional. It gears up the mind, makes a mind curious enough (especially a young mind) to "investigate". And that, my dear friends is call research and using the head. It's amazing what seems so stupid so someone can be very good and educational to others... especially youngsters. Sometimes older folk who've not heard of it before or may have forgotten it.

Pop culture was created by what strikes the interest of people. And currently, yes, Piracy has made a come back into Society. It's nothing new. And like Pat Parelli says "...It's so old, it's new again!"

Hey, Rats... I know I have a role playing forum that has some PotC role playing and one of them is a possible ongoing series following the films. But, no takers yet. Plenty of ideas to work with though. If you can think it, it can be done.
