  1. Here's a link for some info on B&B: http://boardgamegeek.com/viewitem.php3?gameid=96 I would love to have a copy of my own, but I guess that ain't gona happen at 100.00++ a whack. Eric :)
  2. Thanks for the info Daniel, I'll be picking Cordingly's book up real quick. Thanks again!!!! Eric :)
  3. You can pick it up at most of the major computer game stores like Best Buy, Fry's, Electronics Boutique, etc. Let me know how you like it once you get it Eric :)
  4. Hi Mab...just a side note that really doesn't pertain but has a bit o' relevance...at the Battle of Salamis (a naval battle between the Ancient Greeks (I believe the majority of the Greek fleet was Athenian) and the Ancient Persians), the Persians employed one or two ships that were made up exclusively of women warriors. They fought pretty hard, and earned the respect of the Greeks if I remember correctly. Women pyrates is a really interesting topic, and you might want to check out the book "Bold in their Breeches" which deals exclusively with female pyrates. Sincerely, Eric :)
  5. Hi Daniel, extremely interesting post, and very cool info. I just might do a 16th century pirate impression that includes a longbow!!!! Where did you get the info on Drake's use of the longbow? I would like to read that book!!! Thanks!!! Eric :)
  6. Well, as a pyrate game fanatic, and one who has tried to play cutthroats on several occasions, I would respectfully suggest that you pass on this game and opt for Port Royale instead. Eidos Games put out 7 (yes, seven) patches for this game and there are still problems with the software locking up your computer and making it "go boom". In the world of computer games, 7 patches tells you that the game was unstable and the problem was not getting fixed. Port Royale, put out by Ascaron, will cost you around $30, and is readily available. However, if you are a glutton for torture, and really want Cutthroats, I'll consider selling you my copy, but don't run me through once you play it, or should I say attempt to play it!!! Eric :)
  7. I guess my favorite pyrate movie (albeit a cheesy one) is the Crimson Pirate with Burt Lancaster. Maybe I just like it because it has a submarine at end!!! Eric :)
  8. Hello All!!! I just thought I would drop some news and review on the computer game "Port Royale" put out by Ascaron. Let me begin by saying that this is a highly involved game, and you are going to need a few (if not several) hours to play. The depth and scope of this game is tremendous. Make sure you do the in game tutorial before you sink your teeth into this one...it will make your Port Royale experience more understandable and enjoyable. Port Royale is similar to Pirates! In many respects, but there are more options available to you in Port Royale, for example, you can focus exclusively on trade if you wish, building an financial empire that can include fleets of cargo ships, tobacco plantations, sugar plantations, rum distilleries, etc. all working to make you rich. If you wish to focus just on pyracy, you can do that too...however, be careful...pyrates become extremely unpopular very quickly and you will find that your usual ports o'call are closed to you. I like to engage in a little of both, and hey, if you don't want to engage in pyracy, you can always fund another to do it for you and collect a share of their plunder!!! The graphics in this game are good...not Great!...but not bad. The ship to ship combat is well within the "wow" range. Naval combat in Port Royale is a step up from Pirates! and is good enough to keep you drooling for more broadside and boarding action, and then coming back for more. If you can afford it, buy it...I got mine at Fry's for a bag of $30.00 gold pieces, and it was well woth the price of admission. In closing, I'll say that PR is one of the best pyrate computer games that I have played, and it is a welcome breath of fresh air for those craving a game that is as good as or better than the old Pirates! of the early '90s. Up until now, the pirate computer game scene stunk...those of you who have played "Cutthroats" or "Buccaneers" might sympathize, those of you who have not can consider themselves lucky. You now have a pyrate game that is fun, challenging, charming, exciting...and best of all, will not crash your computer at the drop of a handkerchief. Eric :)
  9. Hey Red... I might...and I will stress might...be able to get you a couple of versions of POTC ride soundtrack. Contact me off board and if you are interested. Eric :)
  10. Hello All!!! I am a newbie to pyrate reenactment and have been scouring the web for goodies. I came across this website: http://www.geocities.com/ancasta1/uniform.htm it has three interesting period patterns for a man's late 16th early 17th century dress coat, the same coat with pagoda sleeves (this one really rocks my boat!!) and a full sleeved waistcoat. There is also a link to a website that describes in detail how to size these period patterns. On exploring further I was hooked up with other sites that dealt with perios sewing techniques and fabrics...a real treasure trove of info. Presented for your pleasure, and I hope you enjoy!!! Eric :)
  11. Hello All !!! I'm a newbie and I am scouring the Internet and I am getting ready to put together my "kit". I have a question about the quality of one of the sutlers I have found. Does anyone have any feedbeedback on Michael the Tailor http://www.angelfire.com/va/sutler/ His selection of pirate/seaman garb is pretty impressive and fits with in with the time period I wish to portray (mid to late 17th Century). Coming from a reenactment background, I just like to get some info on a merchant before I plunk down a bag of gold, so any info on the quality of this mechants goods would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!!! Eric...aka "The Submarine Privateer"
