  1. Sterling and Silkie, Thanks for the heads up. What a bummer! Not only will I miss the excellent food, but also the great company. Sounds like I may have to cook for myself. Now there's a train wreck waiting to happen! How do you think I got so skinny to begin with?! Never fear, I'll still stop by the "Hide" with my guitar. Sorry about your luck! Callenish, Thanks for the kind offer. I just may take you up on that!
  2. Silkie, "Have guitar will travel!"Will the ordinary be serving dinner again. I'm far too lazy to cook if I don't have to Misson, Would grey wool sox work? I realize it's Florida and all, but I really think they're more comfortable than the cotton ones Mary, dear, I've got a big hug with your name written all over it! See y'all there, Just Greg
  3. Ahoy, Mates, I just thought I'd let you know that I'm planning on attending again. If there's anything in particular you are looking for, let me know. Also, if there's anything you want from Smoke & Fire, I can get that! That's enough of the shameless self promotion! I'm looking forward to seeing you all again! Just Greg
  4. "You there, Lass; do these socks make my legs look fat?" Exactly! Well said, Cap'n.
  5. Hey Greg, It was the plain natural Linsey-Woolsey socks that I was after.... I'm a bit uptight when it comes to stripes...won't wear them in real life or as a part of my re-enacting gear.... I second the motion. If you bring oatmeal colored L-W socks, I'll snag a pair from you. (No stripes in my costume, thanks. It's too Mr. Smee for me.) yes...but i thought Vertical stripes were apropriate??.....they make me look taller...just picked up some grey silk hose down at smoke & fire...it's those dam-blasted horizontal stripes be the death of me Dogge, you are correct. The vertical stripes are appropriate. And, I have the opposite problem, I wear horizontal stripes to make me skinny pins look bigger, and, me not so tall!
  6. Smee for me.) Guys, I know where to get the socks you crave, but they come from a different source, and I don't have enough time to get them in. Normally, I would agree with you about the stripe thing, but they go so well with my pirate stuff. Besides, striped socks are for real men!
  7. Socks, socks and more socks! I'm putting together an order from my sock source. I'm going to have a wide variety available, so please stop by There are two more styles that I can add to my order if you are interested. Vertical striped wool/cotton blend. Narrow stripes. Michael, is this what you're after? The last time I saw you, I wasn't sure I'd be able to get these again Vertical wide striped light cotton. Blue/black, and Maroon/black. Anybody interested? Thanks, Greg
  8. Okay, these are my replies to your messages in the order they came in: Fayma, dear, you do know that there are bridges across the Ohio River now, don't ya love? But, then again, I guess any excuse to go to PIP is a good one! Harry, Thanks so much! I owe you one. And you're right..... knives...... bad! Mission, you're a sick, sick man! Ah well, I love you anyway. My wife says that I'm no longer allowed to play with sharp objects, so, I'm afraid that I won't be able to supply said saw. The only place I know of that has anything close is G. Gedney Godwin (http://www.gggodwin.com/CartGenie/prod-54.htm), but, I'm guessing that you've probably already discovered them. BTW, the scar on my finger looks just like some of your finest work.... after you've been idling in some grog shop all afternoon! LOL Mary, well, it was a bit more than a flesh wound, but I'm healing nicely. As to the shopping comment, I like the way you think, lass! Callenish, Thanks, my friend. A 1,250 mile (one way) road trip is a bit much, but then again, it's snowing here, so some Florida sunshine is sounding pretty good! Silkie, love, you can count on me showing up at the ordinary at least a couple of nights, guitar and sense of humor in tow! Please put me down for Friday and Saturday evening meals. I know that it's totally out of character for me to put much in my body besides beer, but it sounds good! Capt'n Jim, my friend, you, me, and a bottle of rum..... 'Nough said! Mad Dogge, your concern is touching. So is your confusion. Just to clear things up it was a knife that cuts leather. A really sharp knife that cuts fingers rather smartly as well! Thanks, y'all, anything else you need, just let me know, Just Greg Merchant Extraordinaire
  9. Ahoy, mates! Please file this under shameless self promotion. Go ahead, I'll wait. I just wanted to let y'all know that I do plan to attend again this year. If there's something in particular you are looking for, or want me to bring, just let me know. I will try to oblige. For those of you who have tried to contact me in the past couple of months, here's the deal: When your messages came in I was on the road most of the time. Finally, finished up with that, then I had a little disagreement with one of my leather knives. The knife won, and I ended up with 12 stitches in the middle finger of my left hand (my writing hand). Managed to nick the tendon too. So, my finger was splinted for about 3 weeks, which does make typing a bit difficult. Not to worry mates, the doctor says that I have 100% functionality again, but I still need to go a bit easy on it. So, if any of you felt I was ignoring you, I wasn't. I was just having technical difficulties, as they say. Harry, My paperwork and check are on the way. Hope you're still willing to have me. Sorry it's a little late, but see above. Thanks all! Looking forward to seeing everybody again! Just Greg Merchant Extraordinaire
  10. Glad you like it! (You can carry my book on GAoP surgeons if I ever actually get out of the research phase and sit down and write it. ) Much as I hate to encourage your depravity.... You're on! G.
  11. Hi, Guys, I haven't been on here in a while, but still check in once in a while to see what's going on. This discussion of craftsmen and their marks has been quite interesting. I thought you'd like to know that in my usual world of Revolutionary War reenacting there are many artisans who still touchmark their wares, myself included. If you look at the leatherwork I do, you will find it marked somewhere (usually on the back) with my "mark": a weeping heart with GH in the center. Misson, I love your research keep it up! And to all the good folks, I'm looking forward to seeing you again at PIP. Greg
  12. Hi Y'all, It's your resident greedy merchant checking in. Dover Publishing has some excellent titles on ropework, and I just happen to have a Dover account. Capt'n Jim, if you're interested, the Young Sea Officer's Sheet Anchor is available in a Dover paperback edition for $17.95. And, I just happen to have 2 copies in my inventory. Another title with a wealth of information is: The Art of the Sailor: Knotting, Splicing, and Ropework by Hervey Garret Smith. Dover paperback edition goes for $9.95. Just happen to have a couple of those laying around on the shelves. Dover has a couple of other titles that might be of interest to those of you interested in knot and rope-work. If you wish, you can order them direct from Dover Publications, or you can support your "local" merchant, and order them through me. The price will be the same. If there's something you'd like me to order in for you just let me know. If you're the patient sort, I'll bring them to PIP, and you can avoid shipping charges. I hope this totally unsolicited advertisement doesn't offend anybody, but I thought I would let you know that these titles are available at affordable prices. And remember, he (or she) who dies with the most books wins!!! Greg, Book Junkie, and Merchant Extraordinaire
  13. Nell, I seem to remember that you picked up a fine set of Leather Stays at PIP '07. My point is: ya gotta start somewhere. I've been at this almost 30 years, and still don't have it all. Although, God knows I try. And, No, I won't tell you how old I am, let's just say that I just started reenacting at a delicate age. You and Chrispy just keep doin' what yer doin', and before long you'll look like the rest of us fools, er pirates.
  14. Thanks for all the kind words, y'all, er, I mean, mates! I'm a horrible typist, but will try to stop by the pub for the occasional pint and yarn. Best wishes for the Holidays, Greg, Merchant Extraordinaire
  15. Ye mean the toilets flushing.... who said that? Greg Hudson?? Did I say that.....uh.....er, well what do you expect out of a guy from Kentucky?! I'm surprised that didn't end up in Cap'n Jim's favorite quotes. To Harry, his staff, and volunteers, to Bo and the Bone Island Buccaneers, and all the Lads and Lasses of PIP, Congratulations, and a hearty well done! Keep doin' what you're doin', and I'll be back next year. To Cap'n Jim and all the fine folks of the Careening Camp, Thanks for all the hospitality Sunday night. It was a rare time, and I stayed up far too late. My hangover and I both gave you a good cussin' Monday morning. So,.....wanna do it again next year?! Cheers, Greg Merchant Extraordinaire (I'm not sure who tagged me with this, but I've grown rather fond of it!)
