  1. He is in the list at http://www.worldstatesmen.org/Martinique.htm: 1717 - 1727 François de Pas de Mazencourt, marquis de Feuquières (b. c.1660 - d. 1731) Identifies him as a Governor-General. Lower on the list for the same period, identified as Governor: 1720 - 1727 Jacques Charles de Bochard de Noray de Champigny (d. 1754)
  2. You could be the offspring of a Barbary corsair and a captured European slave. Historically, not uncommon.
  3. One comes to mind right away: Hippolyte de Bouchard Hippolyte de Bouchard at Wikipedia
  4. He was Diabetic. One of the tragedies of the cartoon world. His agent felt others could learn about such tragedy if this had gotten written into the show. Alas, they failed to point out the drunken state with only maple syrup consumed was a result of his diabetes and this sobering poignant moment was inadvertently turned into hilarity. Unfortunately, it wasn’t so for the actor himself. They had put actual maple syrup in his maple syrup; he lapsed into a coma and died on the set. The rest of the season he was replaced by an actor from Lithuanian that did a spot on impression. Truly sad all around. Can you cite your source? Captain K'nuckles is voiced by actor Brian Doyle-Murray (Bill Murray's brother), who is very much alive and well. He also voices The Flying Dutchman in the SpongeBob cartoons.
  5. I like how one character gets drunk on maple syrup.
  6. I have that book too, it's wonderful. Lots of detailed line drawings. Anyway, Laird Cregar in The Black Swan plays Morgan and in a few scenes wears something similar, and carries it off quite well.
  7. Also try: http://www.lulu.com/content/2072771
  8. You can download a copy of the film here: Internet Archive: The Black Pirate

  10. I've always liked this quote: Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more. ~ Erica Jong
  11. Actually, that law doesn't go into effect until July 1, 2008. California Vehicle Code Section 23123, Hand-Held Wireless Telephone: Prohibited Use: (h) This section shall become operative on July 1, 2008, and shall remain in effect only until July 1, 2011, and, as of July 1, 2011, is repealed. But hey, if some people think it's in effect now, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
  12. If you've still a thirst, I've coin to quench it. Break open a couple more casks, tapkeeper! A glass of champagne with a dash of Morgan's Tattoo for Mme False Ransom! And a Hurricane for Lady Barbossa! (One of my favorite concoctions, by the way. Hurricane, that is.)
  13. Ah, most definitely drinks all around on me, since my virtual pockets are always full of gold. Mad Matt, I've been accused of being cheeky, but I'll do my best to not get kicked out of here. RumbaRue, I'm just solo, although I have friends in some of the groups. (As many years as I've been attending events, it's difficult not to know a few people.) Favorite events: Ojai Pirate Festival in the fall, Tall Ships in Dana Point, although I don't always go in costume. Lady Barbossa, have as much tequila as you desire, you'll find no worms. (Worms are in mezcal, not tequila - at least, not in true tequila. ) Thank you all - merci beaucoup - for the hearty welcome!
  14. Catching up on posts here and chatting at another site since a couple of the other sites I religiously visit are down right now. (That's why at the time I'm posting this, my sig pic doesn't download.)
  15. Long time lurker, finally decided to just register. Been attending ren faires and nautical events in California for 15-20 years. Have always been interested in pirate history, can't even remember what got me started. Amicalement, Bastien
