  3. Gabh mo leisgeul, tha mi duilich... ...i apologize...for i must of misunderstood your question...i thought you were looking for any response. to save space in this thread...i will reply only that you make some interseting statements ... and i would like to discuss them with you at length...for on several of these points i am of a different mind...having come from different reffernces....as the highlanders , namely jacobyte clans, both early and later wit the return... were known for there fox tails off their bonnets as well as their badger faced pouches(sporrans)....being a practical lot...used everybit of hide to make useful items...as sporrans...some from a single piece of leather...to several bits sewn together...hide on or off...as dictated for use...or were ya talkin about the aristocrats/the wealthy...the scottish pretenders?....often clansmen being recognized by their acessaries of their garb...not by their tarten plaid(or fish coulored blanket)...and what was your experience while earliy cold mornings tending the livestock donning the plaid to keep warm...did ya take the time to pleat at all..box or knife....were ya still fashionable?...or were ya creative to stay warm?...the "kilt"...most practical piece of outterwear ever created...my authority?...we will save that for another thread. but i am ALWAYS in agreement to suppport any and all who don the kilt and wear it with pride...sporran or no. but i digress from the original question.... Tiaraidh an drasda.... Beag air Bheag, mo charaid, Beag air Bheag!
  4. depends on what yer goin for? authentic.....not for pyrates nor for scottish durring anytime period ...except for modern or fantasy plain simple....always a best bet...blends in better....pyrate symbols...always held in secret...remember they were wanted by auhorities....as for wearring with kilt?.....authentic would still have hair on...sheep,badger fox...with faces as lids....best...rough tanned...thick hard sturdy...like the people who wore them...best bet look at actual kilt shops for better ideas... i have several sporrans....long haired sheep/badger/and plain leather....all may be worn with several outfits...and time periods... as far as modern/casual dress with a kilt.....anything goes as far as fantasy dress.....really anything goes.... so back to original question...depends what you are using it for...and what your tastes are. but then again...if you are one of us blessed people who are able to wear a kilt...nobody looks at your sporran...just the turn of your legs and trying to figure out whats under the sporran!!!
  5. tho i tease my self with an old nickname (for a drooling problem)....Mister Aluitous d'Dogge (M.A.d'Dogge)..... in mine own family tree....where i found an Aluitous...who was reputed to have a "pyratical nature" 'course there is also me real last name....."Beach"......tho it seems a bit ....well disney-ish....for a pirate named "Mister Beach"...sounds like they should be selling surfboards or sumpthin..... though i heard tell my last name..."Beach"...is actually ancient gaelic.....meaning sandy shorline
  6. Soo...ok...i gots me a : scottish murdoch brass scottish murdoch (black watch) 1690 doglock pistol 1690 doglock blunderbuss doglock "fishtail" musket (just got) and a Double barreled flintlock pistol side by side w/ 8" barrels(on order) and yes they are able to be fired "live"...no fakies here... and scottish baskethilt swepthilt rapier (starfire) fencing eppee shell cup cutlass (starfire w/ a modified cup) 12" dagger 10" dagger 8" throwing dagger scian dubh all able to be fought with...no playthings here (though i do play with them) then we get into other time lines cival war, wild west, roaring twenties ancient scottish, medieval, jousting parafanaila (yeah did that too)... swords knives pistols shotguns rifles armour cannons toooo tedious to list: and me pride and joy a cival war confederate calvary sword handed down throu my family....to finally reach mine own grubby hands.... baisically i dont buy wall hangers...only ones that are able to be used...roughly for it is not only our job to remember history...but to re-live it..... anyone?....anyone?
  7. now i believe i read this somewhere...that durring census taken durring the GAoP...that the irish, scottish, welsh...were thought of as english...and there fore the percentages may be a bit askewed....but trying to remember where i read that...so don't quote me...till i can find that quote....where the hell did i put that book?

  10. naah....thats how we really looked you can blame it on the "GROGTEENY"
  11. to Scuttle Sally....and the rest who had the herculean task of putting on such an event....a very heartfelt thank you for letting us (the Crewe)play.... to members of the Pub...who i met... glad to finally meet ya face to face...now that i know what ya look like...i can keep an eye out fer ya to the members of the Pub...who were there...and i didna no meet... what were ya hidin?...the rumours of me bitting are ...well they are true... but would have been nice to have known yer face!!?!......next time where a button ot sumpthin, will ya!!?! to all that were there....did anyone happen to see me voice? ...i know that i didnt make it back home with it....if anyone finds it...please send it my way....last seen ...it was near my head....that i wish i left behind...who was making those grogteenys again?... ...abdyabdyabdy..... and Scuttle Sally....or anyone else who happend to get a hold of the paper....would love to have a copy....hard to get a hold of out here in the port city of D-troit already lookin forward to next year....and playin even harder...i might need to buy and extra voice then...just in case i lose the first one again.
  12. wellll....ya could bring your "pretty" anyway...and when the badies start firing their boomers at ya...ya could throw your "pretty" really hard ...and run away..... actually "stage" weapons as the one you have...ie non-firing....do have there place...'speacially when kiddies are concerned...or close contact duals...ya get the drop on someone...to close to safly shoot or aim a "firing' repro....or even for photogs... but boyo...ifn ya really want to play.....get a boomer!
  13. sorry for the double post...had a notheer thought.... i agree with not buying the cheapest "lock" out there...lots of problems with soft parts...bad timing, no sparkys.......just a very heavy paper weight. but i also agree donot buy the most expensive either...usaully not that much better than any other.... do your homework...know what your buying...and what you'll use it for...and buy from someone you trust...and who stands behind their work...several places come to mind...and i personally have had a good working experience with them.... no offense mister callendish...just haven't seen your wares yet...but looking forward to it next we meet..... but i definately, whole heartedly recomend buying a "reproduction"(ie a working)...rather than a pretty replics(non-shuddershudder-firring).... but then again...i am a powder snob
  14. i am bit of a black powder enthusiast anyways... ..so i am a bit ....oh ....lets say i have strong opinions about the subject or replica vs. repro... ..i have several "repros"...all working, able to be fired "live".. .i personally will never go back to the other side again.... speaking of saftey.. .did you fellas happen to see the "safe blank" vs a watermelon trick before?.... .whhhhhoooooooooooooohhhhhhoooooo! boy....these are called "hand cannons" for a reason... ..and i like it!
  15. i have seen a metal sleeve...that would hold the two ends together...with holes to bolt em tight the the wood...i think panther primatives even may have one????
  16. aye...yall seemed to have covered all the bases here...just for a visual though...we used to have a contest...to cut a 4x4 post in half...only using black powder muskets...we found that less powder..ie less velocity...caused more damge to the post...front as well as back...too much powder...nice pretty little hole...lose the prize.... how this translates to a point blank head shot tell me how it goes
  17. well i sure do appreciate the hospitality ive been shown here ....i''l most likely take some of ya up on the offers to borrow/trade fer some of that thar powder...may just want to plan on bringing extra...pretty sure the rest of me crewe will be flyin in too...and be in the same boat (notice the cheap attempt at a pun) as far as our crewe oes...we have a few closer events (on calander and distance) but the Key West event seems to be the only one we keep talkin about...ya definately piqued our interest lookin forward to meetin quite a few of ya ...maybe not all of ya ...maybe not quite a few ...but a few of ya anyway...
  18. ...hey...when you say "powder"...your not talkin about your "hot jamaican chili powder"...are ye? iam sure the powder from jamaica will be hot... but lookin for the black stuff to fit in me Blunderbuss, english lock horse pistol and me fishtaile dog-lock musket...possibly also a swival gun ....would ya have enough for all that?
  19. Not sure if this has been discussed yet?...but since some of us are flying in...and bringing our kit...including a blunder or doglock or two...what will we shoot? i haven't looked into it yet...but pretty sure the airlines look down un-favorably o' bringing of blackpowder on board...even if we are just shootin blanks...considering they don't even like hair gel anymore..... sooooo...... will there be any black powder on the island? for sale? for share? rations? anyone bringing any? could some be bought a head of time...be made available?...what was done in the past? what are the local laws/ordinances?...anyone? anyone? or will all the sound F/X just be edited in in post production
  20. flying out of DTW says you?...thats where i'll be a flyin from what airline you flyin?...thought about flyin spirit $87 each way to ft lauderdale...then the olde rent a wreck and do the drive...all said and done...'bout the same price either way....
  21. sounds very interesting?!? when would ya need the footage?...film all year...making plans...bring footage to event...trip down...excetra...hand you the footage at then end of the event?...or are ya looking for it before then? or send it to ya after we get home for a couple of goin home blues shots?
  22. but i bet they got one hell of a view of all the action!!...well until they landed anyhow.
  23. Always had a thing fer redheads....can't help it....just do...first girls i "noticed"...when i first started noticin girls....were Maureen O'hara and Daphne from SCOBBIE-DOO ...still like scobbie-doo...but folowed my Maureen O'hara anywhere... such as aboard the BLACK SWAN...while with the SPANISH MAIN...or even when she was being chased by SINBAD THE SAILOR...or being courted on by the QUIET MAN....well that last one had no pirates but i did learn to drynk like MICHALEEN OGE FLYNN... gotta watch the film...i even started walkin like JOHN WAYNE... cause he always got the red head!... im better now. give me a sword...odd lokin gun...sash...and a cool hat...so i can chase redheads...an im yer man my wife still won't let me watch SCOOBIE-DOO by meself.....
