  5. great video guys! the exhibit is great. I was fortunate enough to spend the duration of her Norfolk visit on board portraying Capt. Bellamy his self. Mr. Merryweather, the younger, was a dead ringer for the John King Nat'l Geo depicted. I do have to admit I still have dreams with the background music from the various galleries stuck in me head. "There are three types of sailors... those that are living, those that are dead... and those that go over da sea!"

Thank you Dutchie! We are looking forward to the Museum's roll out events for this wonderful exhibit. The Museum has some great ideas plan...I fear that we all may be a victim of the 'background music" soon enough. Parts are being worked on as we speak...I cannot wait to see the public's expression when the see this exhibit!

  8. Real Pirates will soon make their way to Milwaukee's lakeshore this December (December 14, 2012 - offical roll out date).

The Milwaukee Public Museum on December 14, 2012, as Real Pirates takes over the Museum’s special exhibit halls. Experience the Golden Age of Piracy aboard the Whydah, one of the most successful pirate ships of her day, and learn about her roots as a slave ship and subsequent takeover and conversion into a pirate ship in the early 1700s.

One of the most technologically advanced vessels of her day, the Whydah was captured on her maiden voyage by legendary pirate Sam Bellamy and his crew. After a few alterations and a quick hoist of the Jolly Roger, the Whydah became the flagship of Bellamy's flotilla, leading raids throughout Caribbean waters and up the Atlantic coastline.

On April 26, 1717, the perfect storm put an end to the Whydah's sailing days, and she sank with most of her crew aboard—as well as the bounty from more than 50 captured ships. Almost 300 years later, underwater explorer Barry Clifford and his team managed to locate the wreck of the Whydah and painstakingly unearthed her treasures from the ocean floor, making her the first fully authenticated pirate ship ever to be discovered in U.S. waters.

Organized by National Geographic and Arts and Exhibitions International, Real Pirates examines the history of rich Caribbean trade routes during the 18th century and the link between the slave trade and piracy. You'll encounter compelling true stories of those who lived aboard the Whydah and learn about the forces that shaped their world.

Pirate Fest 2012 is scheduled for the week of August 6-12.

The weekday activities will be held at Loutit District Library and throughout the downtown Grand Haven area. The weekend activities will be held at Harbor Island and the downtown Grand Haven area.

    We are exited for 2012!

A lot of new changes are going to be happening, which will open our opportunities to make Michigan Pirate Festival in Grand Haven, MI a completely unique event! We are looking for vendors, historical encampments and living historians to set up a booth/tent space for the weekend.

    "Pirates Through The Ages"

Our theme this year will encompass pirates throughout the ages, including pirates of fantasy and fiction. Piracy is deeply embedded into our culture and history in ways most people don't even realize! Our goal this year is to have displays of pirates and their friends/foes from fictional books & movies (Peter Pan, Pirates of the Caribbean, space pirates, etc.). The other side of the camp will display pirates and those involved with them in real history, including Vikings, Buccaneers, Golden Age Pirates, Revolutionary War, etc.

Here are the groups we will be displaying:

    • Ancient Pirates (before 1100) Medieval Pirates & Buccaneers (1100 - 1500)
    • Golden Age Pirates (1500 - 1700) Colonial Pirates (1700 - 1850)
    • Pre-Industrial Pirates (1850 - 1900) Steampunk (fictional alternate 1850 - 1945)
    • Fiction/Fantasy (from books/movies)

  10. Thank you all who attended this year's Military History Fest IIIX at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL this year. For those who have never been, this year was quite different from the last events. The event offered more...more reenactors, more seminars, more vendors and of course...this year, encampments.

Out of 13 encampments which signed up this year to compete, I am proud to say that the pirate group, The Forsaken, made their mark on their reenactment peers by ranking second in the competition...Great Job to everyone in the group.

  11. Twas a grand event...and thank you, Billie and everyone else who gathered around and made it happen!

Tis another view....of the Tavern.....Tyburn's Last Drop.....we only had a 20x20 spot to work from.....complete with a working GIBBET that we gave "RIDES" to the wee ones....ok...and some of the Pin -Up Girls as well....ahem

  12. I want a patient who can act, though. It's the patient, not the surgeon, who has to sell it. :)

Really?! What's their motivation?! I think the concept of pain isn't anything new to any of us...perhaps we can have a someone be a little bit 'off their muster' and start rambling about his brother or his mother...

Then you can say that 'the subject must have been struck in the head...due to their ramblings...."

  13. Misson, I do like this idea. You running to the aid of the injured folk as they screem for help (or cry like a girl in some cases)! Also, we women folk can also 'pick through of the dead' after the battle...this give those without guns to participate in the battle..
