  1. By chance, does anyone happen to know which of these films are silent? My orchestra is doing a pirate concert and we're trying to find a segment of piratey, silent film for our student composter to score. Thanks.
  2. Avast, me hearties! The college Pops orchestra that I captain is planning to present a program of pirate music this November (if you'll be in the Boston area and want concert details, let me know). Our student composer intends to orchestra a short film or a clip from a longer movie, but we haven't yet found a good selection. We're looking for approximately ten minutes of silent film, of or relating to pirates. We've looked at the 1924 Peter Pan and the silent Black Pirate, but haven't yet found anything we want to work with. Are there other silent pirate movies or shorts that you know of? Cartoons, silent or talkie, are also a possibility. We also currently have brainstormed a rather long list of pirate/sea-faring music, and we'll choose our program from it, but I was wondering if y'all had some suggestions that aren't yet on our list. Our current crop of brainstormings is as follows: Little Mermaid, Debussy's La Mer, Pirates of Penzance, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sea Chanty, Drunken Sailor, Russian Sailors' Dance, Octopus's Garden, Muppet Treasure Island, Yellow Submarine, Water Music, Scheherazade, Blue Danube, Smetana's Moldau, Princess Bride, In the Navy, Monkey Island, Popeye, Titanic, dirnking songs, Beyond the Sea, Anchors Aweigh, Island of the Dead, Gilligan's Isle, Pirate Jenny, Peter Pan, Hook, Under the Sea, Victory at Sea, Crocodile Rock, Yo Ho (the good ship Harvard), Other music from Pirates of Penzance, first mvmt of Scheherezade As you can see, we're very eclectic in our genres. Established rep we buy or rent, and random songs we orchestrate or arrange into medleys. So basically, any advice you've got is appreciated. Thanks! www.hcs.harvard.edu/~pops -Admiral Lizzie- (by the way, I visited 826 Valencia in San Fran for the first time last week, and I thought I'd stumbled into heaven)
