  1. Since I'm not American Military but Canadian it might be a problem :)
  2. How about a professional sailor? I've held a commission in Her Majesty's Canadian Navy for the last 20 years (did 2 years in the ranks previously) as a MARS Officer (Maritime Surface). That's the officer that drives and commands our ships. I've served aboard our Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDV) as the ship's Navigator and most recently as Operations Officer. For the last year I've been ashore, returning from Afghanistan this past June and now I'm teaching at our Deployed Operations school. I've been tagged to go back to sea for a few weeks here and there to fill in as XO (2nd in Command) over leave periods and such. Here's a few pics This was on the cover of our west coast navy base newspaper. It was a story of the guy on the left. I'm the Navigator at the Polaris taking a fix. This is the ship I'm qualified to drive. It's 55m long (180ft for you guys) and 1000tonne And this is just a cool pic taken of me driving one of our small patrol boats (75ft, 75tonne) for a CAN-US Port Security Ex a few years back. Command is an addictive thing.
  3. I see that there is a 6month free trial for members of the US Military. I've emailed to see if they would extend that offer to members of an ally military :)
  4. Ex-cellent. I await my issue with even more anticipation then :) But I thought the next issue declares who the 13 selected are?
  5. Am I missing a link somewhere to find out more about these worthy pirates? I know a few, but not all. Be good to read their exploits. What Pirate doesn't like to boost of their deeds?
  6. I've keep fairly quiet, but I really have to vent now. I never got the 4th issue of my one year subscription and that was issue #7! No replies to emails, so I've given up. My emails recently have been to remove me from the email list because if you're not going listen to me, I don't want to hear from you. I asked if my account on their forum can be removed. I've blocked the emails as spam. Bad business. I've told people around here about this, and they have gone with Pirates Magazine. I'm very happy with their customer service. They made sure I had one of my issues before I left for Afghanistan. I've written Pyrates Way off.
  7. I just started plunderen the seas. Anyone still play? I've exchanged with Syren and Billy. Anyone else?
  8. Last year wasn't bad. The new owner has put a lot into Sterling. I'll be there on Saturday
  9. I just saw the Taliban vs. IRA. Served over in the south of Afghanistan with a Brit Major who was a policemen in Northern Ireland. It was off on both sides. Especially the Taliban.
  10. I must say I am really enjoying the story Just started getting the mag. When I came to the end of the chapter I was "NOoooo!" Didn't know it was only a chapter and not a whole story till the end. Hats off to you both I have get more back issues :) Looking forward to the next issue
  11. I've sent a couple of emails. Were you going to email back to confirm that the issue was sent out?
  12. Yes, this messes up my usuall Halloween handouts A treasure chest of lollypops just isn't the same :)
  13. Still waiting on mine as well. And it's almost Halloween. Hope the posties at the board arn't passing it around for a read before sending it on.
  14. Thanks all! I've been away for a while and just found the pub back open. Glad it's up and running again :)
  15. I understood the POTC animated series was the characters that are on all the cartoon style party supplies and such.... someone gave me a set of placemats with the characters annimated on them
  16. I'll be going up just for Saturday. Last year was disapointing. It was like any other day at faire. This year, with the new owner, there is more planned. Anyone else planning on making the voyage this weekend?
  17. Being that racing is my other passion (other than piracy/sword play) my family has allot of cars. My father has a 2000sqft garage. My daily driver now is a 02 Subaru WRX (World Rally blue of course). Lightly modified due to its mostly street use (stiffer springs/struts, bigger exhaust) My car at University was a 1969 Ford Cortina mk2. BRG with Lotus suspension. The engine was the standard Kent cross flow with a raging 86hp. With good tires I hardly ever had to use the brakes. My toy is a 1989 Toyota mk1 MR2 Supercharged. Heavily modified for the type of racing I do (very stiff springs, ajustable struts, ajustable custom swaybars, custom intake and exaust, ultra lightweight rims, race tires, race seats and belts) Right now we are playing with my Dad's car. He and my Mum raced a 1966 Lotus Cortina at the local, regional (provincial) and national level. We just finished a complete rebuild from the shell up. Only 2800 were ever made by Lotus, with only 250 coming to NorthAmerica The type of racing we do is called Auto Slalom. One car at a time on a course designated by traffic cones. Cars are grouped according to performace level and degree of preperation. So complete showroom stock cars compete in different classes from the same car prepared as a full stripped race car. My Mum was 3 times Canadian Ladies National champion in the 80's. Last year I won my class at the Ontario Region level in my MR2. We have 12 vehicles and 4 trailers between my father and I. The pic of my Dad's Lotus was taken this past weekend at an event. A fitting way to spend Father's Day, with my Dad at the track.
  18. Red Scarlett anger is just what the role needs (for those who remembers Robin of Sherwood)
  19. And he wouldn't do a movie where he was defeated by a Brit.
  20. 911 for me. I've driven most (11) of the cars on that list :) Still prefer the Lotus Elise.
  21. Anyone see Family Guy this weekend? Peter gets a parrot and becomes a pirate. My fav quote from the show was something like: "Ha-HA!... Let us get our fill of bread and wine and tell stories of other times we have had our fill of bread and wine....Ha-HA!" There is a good swashbuckling scene with a Brit in a Mini carrying a cargo of spices, tobacco and rum. Peter's crew overtakes the Mini in his station wagon. Cannons firing, sword fighting.. all good piratical adventure. It was only one act of the show, then he goes off and does other non-pirate stuff. I hope to see the scenes again on YouTube soon.
  22. The temp dropped here hard. I could tell that if snow hit the ground a lot of people would hit the roof. Lots of people ready to go crazy
  23. went from freezing with snow on the ground still 2weeks ago to 70+F and sunny..... crazy.
  24. Not sure about that place. I was in Halifax a couple month back and couldn't find head or tail about it.
  25. We north of your boarder have hit the $1.20/L That's about $4.80 USG. Even with our dollar a couple cents bellow par that is more. Of course, we have much more tax on our fuel. Considering we export 1million barrels a day (we produce 3mill and consume 2mill) we really ought to be less. You guys produce 8mill/day and consume 20mill/day. World Oil consumption/production rates Exporting 1mill/day is the reason our ecomomy is so strong. And we have a ballanced budget with troops in the field.
