  1. Beautiful. It brings a tear to my eye, serious.
  2. I couldn't agree with you more, Barbossa. I think that there are just too many different types of kits to lump them in to two groups. I think what really gets to me is that, I don't want to be catagorized with the costume store, renaissance and belly dancer pirate that you see at alot of faires. I think its just in our human nature to catagorize things. The thing with POTC, is they are what pirates could of looked liked. The thing with the living history folks, is that they cannot use something in their kit unless it has been historically documented, no exceptions, in order to be accurate. We all know where I stand on boots, well instead of just taking the word for granted that they didn't ware them, I did my own research and came up with my own conclusion. I don't claim to be exactlly historically period, but I sure as hell ain't hollywood or fantasy ither. Cheers
  3. Nice job mate, I think they look great. I love makin somethin out of nothin. but don't discredit the old boots untill you've done some research.
  4. I think I got A-, well thats what the dog tags say anyway. If thats what ya needs let me know, although it might be a little thin at the moment. Serious if ya need it let me know, I,ve got plenty. Just hade a physical to, Doc said I'm good to go.
  5. BILLY! How have ya been mate!? My friends and I used to have this arcade game in the garage of the house we used to rent out. Anyway, it was a neogeo, you could change out the game in the back of it. We used to play this game Busta Move, into the we hours of the morning, while putting down quite a few beers. I would pass out and have dreams of that game. Drove me insane.
  6. He didn't order 6 men to put on ordinary jackets, he order 6 men that were already dress as sailors, already in ordinary jackets to get into the boat. The only people actually quoted as changing into other clothes, or into a disguise are "he himself", the master, and the doctor. Interesting that their disguise is to "dress up" like gentlemen.... leading us to believe that even in these positions of authority, they were not already dressing like gentlemen. So another way to write it would be "we told six regular sailors in their ordinary sailors clothes to get into the boat, while we dressed up like gentlemen so we would appear to be more like a regular merchant ship and crew. Of course, that is just how I read it. GOF Thats how I read that as well, he stating it adjectivally to describe the difference between himself and the other sailors. In my personal opinion, people are people, and given the opportunity to go on a shopping spree, so to speak, I think that they would take full advantage of an opportunity, " Thats a nice coat, I'll take that" or "Thats a nice coat, I could sell that" especially giving the situation where they wouldn't know where their next source of income would be coming from and taking whatever form of currency they could find. Beggars can't be choosers you know.
  7. I'm kinda a hodge-podge of the GOAP.
  8. I belive I have those exact shoes, not real leather, but ware them to a couple of events and get thenm nice and durty, nobody can tell the difference. The only problem is that they are slick as @#*&!.
  9. Nah.. "rocky mountain piss water" my wife likes to call it, or aka Coors Light. Like sex in a canoe, close to water but still pretty good.
  10. Its not as hard as it would seem, granted it does start to get priecy if your not thrifty with supplies. Also don't know if she'll float yet.
  11. Ok, so I ordered these planes from bateau.com about two years ago and just kinda sat on um. I tried to find a nice little wooden row boat, but out here on the left coast, they are rare and or expensive. So I figured I would start this post to document its progress. Or any one else how has started building a boat. All I have left to do is; sand the whole bloody thing, rub rail, seat tops, mast, coat the damn thing in epoxy and then paint. All fear the good ship MAKO! \
  12. Wouldn't see why they couldn't.
  13. I'm building a 12' sailing skiff for my crew and I. Using the stitch and glue method, not period, but I am using wood. I wanted it ready for Ojai, but its taking a little longer than planned.
  14. Well actually I thought this thread was about whether or not your kit, I hate the word garb, was leaning towards authentic or hollywood, then I read it was just to discuss how it was made. So my bad, there is a thread in rable rousing called " YOU IN Your Garb" to post pics. I'm sure there is plenty of pics of me floating around. Also in Raids the OJAI thread carter posted a link to some pics where you can find resent pics of my kit, sans the frock, it was just too hot. Cheers Oh, I'm the tall one with the beard.
  15. Yeah thats pretty awesome. Wait are we discussing the authentisity of breasts on Cpt. Twill now? Fake or not, they're all real on the outside!
  16. I would have to say that my kit is a nice mix between Authentic and Myth, with a touch of artistic license.
