About Me

I've been dancing around the GAoP period since the early '80's. English Civil War, F&I/RevWar, worked and volunteered at a historic site that started in the late 17C and had it's heyday in the first half of the 18C. So now here I am, with a bunch of skills I've picked up over the years, being able to make clothes without patterns, open hearth cooking (basic stuff, I'm still working on the more complex) spinning, dyeing, some weaving, and more academic stuff. I was lucky enough to work and volunteer at a historic site that had a lot of archaeological work going on, and there were/are lots of educational opportunities for the volunteers. I also spent a lot of time attending various symposiums covering things from historic clothing and ceramics to butchering meat and making beer. And I love researching for primary sources!

As of the beginning of 2013, I am the proprietress of Dobyns and Martin, Grocers, At the Sign of the Sugar Loaf. The name is modeled on some we found in period newspapers. We sell historically accurate foodstuff (sugar loaves, teas, spices, chocolate, sweetmeats, etc.) My "shop" has a big blue sugar loaf for a finial on top. It's turning out to be quite an adventure.
