I'm a History Geek, I love the most about the Golden Age of the Pirates, I was born and raised in N.C. and I visit our coast every summer, I'm about a 4 hour drive inland, lucky thing abut living in N.C., we have our share of Pirate History, Black Beard, Steade Bonnet were some the most famous along our coast.
We even have a legend here in our county that three Pirates were buried in a local grave yard, their graves are mark by the skull and crossbones.
N.C. just has so much interesting history from that time period.
  1. Yes, I saw that on a TV special they had on the Whydah, I thought that was interesting, There was also something about it in the book on the Whydah by Barry Clifford. I believe alot of the GAoP were Masons, alot of the symblos used on their flags had Masonic symbols, the heart, dagger, hourglass and skull and crossbones, which was a ancient symbol used by the Templars. All of this is very interesting to me. As my Grandfather was a Freemason. I have his Masonic apron.
  2. I wanted to read your thoughts on this subject, were Pirates and Freemason's connected ? I have a book title " The Templar Pirates " by Ernesto Frers. Which say's The Templar fleets that went missing at La Roschelle later reappered-first in the Mediterranean and later in the Atlantic and Caribbean-to menace the Church's maritime commerce. These Templar vessels often flew the famed Jolly Roger, which took it's name from King Roger ll of Sicily, a famed templar who, during a public spat with the Pope in 1127, was the first to fly this flag.
  3. I have the VCR tape of it and the Chieftians music soundtrack to the movie, both great ! DAME YOUR EYES !!!!
  4. I've read on Pat Croce's ( owner of Pirate Soul Museum ) web site, that he and the director of Gladiator were making a movie on "BlackBeard", I've surfed the web and they say there is a "BlackBeard" movie coming out next year, but nothing about the details yet. Anyone know more on this movie, looking forward to it, when it comes out.
  5. I thought I would join this forum with all you people that were pirates in your former life like me, HA HA !!

Now stop reading and get back to the forum before I cut your throt and throw you overboard for sharke meat !

  6. Here's some books I'm reading right now, I love to read three or four books at a time, since I love the history of the Pirates. Here's a great Pirate fiction book: "SILVER" My own Tale As Written by Me with a Goodly Amount of Murder. a novel by Edward Chupack. It's the life of Long John Silver of "Treasure Island" fame, it starts out with his life as a young boy in Bristol, England, to years later with him being shipped back to England to be hanged, while on the ship to England he writes his life story. Great Book ! JOLLY ROGER, The Story of the Great Age of Piracy, by Patrick Pringle. THE REAL PIRATE OF THE CARIBBEAN, BLACK BARTY, by Aubrey Burl. BLACK BART ROBERTS, THE GREATEST PIRATE OF THEM ALL, by Terry Breverton. THE BOOK OF WELSH PIRATES & BUCCANEERS, by Terry Breverton. ( I order this one from a used book dealer in London, England ) My dads ancestors were from Wales, so I love reading anything about the Welsh Pirates.
  7. I'm a Pirate Historian and in my research over the years, I don't think any Pirates of the Golden Age had tattoo's. I haven't found any proof.
  8. oderlesseye, Thank's for the kind words and I love your Jolly Roger on your myspace page, and the back part of your home, looking good, I'm trying to do the same thing in my home, give it a pirate look, I have a old chest my grandfather gave me, made in the late 1800's at the front of my bed, look's like it could have been the real chest from the golden age, has that old rustic look. I'm into diffrent Jolly Roger design's of the Golden Age, right now I have Black Bart Roberts flag with him and the skeleten holding a hour glass togeather, flying in my yard.
  9. I think most people like the GAoP and dress like that period, I've found in most of my pirate history research that most of your pirate captains always dress up, with the hat's of that period and outfits, not like hollywood or fiction books with bandana's and a ear ring in one ear and tattoo's ( which I don't think any pirates had tattoo's in the Golden Age ) . Hollywood has alot to do with the fictional pirate look, not true to history.
  10. I'm what you might call a pirate historian, I've been interested in Pirate history for some time now, I live in North Carolina, { home to Black Beard ) and we have lots of Pirate history along our coast, I saw your forum here and thought I would come aboard. I was thinking the other day, I bet the pirate's of the Golden Age never knew they would be so famous with people 300 plus years later, I recken their spirit still lives on in people like you.
