I posted the following in a different thread a few days ago: I was sitting here with vanilla rum & coke in hand when the candle over my head* flickered to life. There's a whole bunch of creative people here who just might be able to render the above flag as a gif file, and, once a design is settled upon, there are others who might (for a fee, of course) be able to render the resulting flag in cloth. This one's a two-parter. One: I am soliciting volunteers to create a GIF of the flag described above. I'm not rich, so the winner of this part of the competition gets nothing but bragging rights. Since I use WebTV, I won't be able to right-click and save the winning d…

I usually don't like to post e-bay links but this is interesting if it proves to be actual hemp rope. Sissal, Jute, and Hemp can all look the same from an ebay photo! EDIT: Upon further inspection... I am not sure that I think this is Hemp rope. A lot of folks selling really don't know the difference and the way the ends are fraying makes me think that its sissal/jute. I could be wrong but.... 175 Feet of Hemp Rope

I've been browsing for about 6 hours now with no luck but I stumbled across this site through google. I'm just hoping someone here can help me since I'm literally about to tear my hair our after searching for so long. I'm currently making a EXACT replica costume of the good old Captain Jack Sparrow. I've been ordering parts and going fabric shopping tomorow but I can't find these buttons anywhere! I've found the silversmith buttons for the vest but for the actual coat is near impossible..I was hoping someone here knows a site or something similar I can get. Here's a few images of the real costume buttons. http://img103.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=l...74_bla005wa.jpg htt…

I think it is time to add a new sub forum. Could we have one to strictly discuss Clothing/Pirate garb (one for Authentic and Fantasy). A lot of threads are about clothing and they don't necessarily fall into Plunder (which should be buying and selling IMHO) and Captain Twill (which is academic talk on all historical topics). I know we have a lot of sub forums already, but I think that this is one area that needs its own home GoF PS I put forth Foxe as a moderator too!

Well I got me a felt hat blank and steamed me up a fair tricorn if I do say so. Also got some 'gold' (well, gold colored metallic anyway) braid, and I'm wonderin' what'd be th' best adhesive t' affix it with. Somethin' fairly invisible like. Any ideas? TIA!

I'm certain this was discussed a while back...so if anyone would like to just refer me to the appropriate topic...by all means do so. I'm trying to age and distress a waistcoat...has anyone found any good resources of aging cloth to give it that yellowed...stained look? Thanks.

I have a black leather baldric that I really like, but it's way too clean/new. I'm looking for ideas on how to distress/age this sucker to make it look old and beat up. Anyone have a good method? TIA.

It all started with this picture. http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?ph...cat=6613&page=1 Her costume's very good, but it's the custome balrics and belts I envy so much! Does anyone know how to age leather to get it to look like that? Or if it's not even leather... Much appreciated! Captain Wolfy Wench

I have a certain silver coin that I would like to look old... how does one tarnish silver? Just wearing it won't work for me... for some reason, silver doesn't tarnish on me.

I have come upon some wonderful Queen Anne pistols, they have delighfully grotesque butt caps, seamless steel barrels and the silkiest stocks ever - each stock has been hand oiled and waxed... At present they are in their virgin state - ripe for the picking and can be sold as an inert, live firing (black powder) or the most ingenius forward venting blank firing system that uses 9mm Umarex cartridges can be installed. As an inert they are £225 (collected) £231 (posted in UK); As a live (black powder) they are £225 (collected); With the blank firing system £295 (collected) and £321 (posted in UK). If you're interested or would like to see a picture hail me (or if anyo…

So, what do you wear on your feet if you don't want to wear shoes, don't want to wear a (improbable anyway) pair of floppy boots, and don't want to go the plastic flip flop route? Is there a period equivalent of sandals?

If you're not familiar with my story line in Port Royal. A certain scoundrel carries an unsightly gentleman's sword. Any ideas for a very basic, late ren, rapier or hanger, which could be "weathered". Easy on the$$ if possible? Rats
