Hello All!!! I am a newbie to pyrate reenactment and have been scouring the web for goodies. I came across this website: http://www.geocities.com/ancasta1/uniform.htm it has three interesting period patterns for a man's late 16th early 17th century dress coat, the same coat with pagoda sleeves (this one really rocks my boat!!) and a full sleeved waistcoat. There is also a link to a website that describes in detail how to size these period patterns. On exploring further I was hooked up with other sites that dealt with perios sewing techniques and fabrics...a real treasure trove of info. Presented for your pleasure, and I hope you enjoy!!! Eric :)

I have 4 1/2 yards of white linen left over from a recent project if anyone is interested. I haven't bought it in a while so I really don't know what the average price is right now but make me an offer (shipping and handling may be a bit more than usuall due to weight) to buy or possibly trade.

I've wanted an 8 Reales coin, a reproduction in silver would be fine, I was looking for a "holed" coin (traditional peasant wear......rather than something in a gold plated bezel bearing an octapus with emerald eyes.....). Found some with potential....reproduced from Atocha coins cast in the silver bars from the Atocha...but getting good information on them is tough. Wouldn't have to be from the Atocha (and sterling would be fine if the coin was what I'm looking for) something before the pillars and waves....Suggestions ?

I came across a vendor with barrels at our local Ren faire, and was wondering if anyone here has used them, or heard anything about 'em... Swish Barrel and/or Thousand Oaks Barrel Co. Both companies use the same barrels, or they are both outlets for the same manufacturer. They look good -- although sized in liters which I'm not used to. They also have the "bootleg kits" in which one can supposedly turn grain alcohol or neutral vodka into something similar to "top shelf liquors," which I'm almost afraid to admit interests me, a bit. Any info would be appreciated -- else I may have to invest next weekend at the faire and do my own dang research.

Hi all; My girlfriend and I are getting dressed up for the POTC2 opening night, in proper pirate gear. Now, everything I've read suggests that when women became pirates, they generally wore men's garb so they wouldn't be discovered right away. They didn't necessarily run about in skirts and bodices. Am I wrong in this? I mean, there were a handful who were already known as pirates and so probably wore whatever (Grainne comes to mind), but it seems to me that those who were running away for their piratical adventures, and not as the wife of someone on board a ship, were most often in breeches, weskit, etc. Am I way off base here? I'm trying to be accurate from a his…

Ok... this is going to be kinda long, and convuluted...... I started making a Ditty bag for a late-Birthday gift.... (The one on the left)... I still have to make the lanyard....... But then I got thinking...... Hey... Other than the one that I painted (so I now use it as a tent steak and rope bag)..... I don't have a dity bag.... So I got kinda carried away, and made it with a leather bottom, and some fancy work.... I still have to permately seize all of the netting.... right now, it's just temperoraly siezed so I can see how it looks..... I didn't want to have everything inside just jumbled up, so I made a ring of canvas on the inside that acts as pockets, so eve…

I'm looking to acquire one.One that is functional, workable, durable.I've heard good things about the Dutch cutlass from MRL,which is coming back onto the market next Spring. Can anybody tell me if it's more that just a wall decoration? What about the other cutlasses from MRL/Atlanta Cutlery?I'm afraid of getting something that will shatter in use? I talked to a knifemaker in Elyria,Ohio, who would make me a copy of the Dutch cutlass, and wanted $3,000. What about the Cold Steel 1917 Cutlass? Is it useable and viable?I was thinking of customizing one.

I am "addicted" to e-bay and search high & low for unusual things. Here is something that would make a great pirate flag. It is of appropriate size for such a venture as it is 6 feet wide and 18 feet long. Its the pennant or triangular shape. More info on pirate flags at Foxe's site http://www.bonaventure.org.uk/ed/flags.htm But here is the link to the e-bay pirate flag. http://tinyurl.com/y2ob064 I contacted the seller.... its Nylon. If it had been made of wool, I would be sniping it now. But for those of you that "it doesn't matter", its a pretty good deal. Also, you can't get 100% wool flag bunting now anyway. So if you have your own ship and need somet…
