Whilst I can't take the credit fer pennin' this here fine tune...I felt the need t' be sharin' it...so 'ere it is. Enjoy it mates... Here be a little back story fer ya: "This song tells of a lavish ball at the castle of Cairrigh Muir, that was sabotaged by evil-minded pranksters. It involved three crucial elements: the punch being spiked with a potent aphrodisiac; painfully itchy rose-hip seeds being thrown on the dance-floor, where they were kicked up into the ladies' undergarments; and, at a crucial and premeditated moment, all the lights in the castle being extinguished. What followed next was, by all accounts of the day, 'an orgy of sich greet magnituid, that twenty…

I'm looking forward to this collection of traditional songs of the sea, performed by contemporary folk and alternative artists: http://www.anti.com/catalog.php?id=67 It's due out on August 22. I'm particularly intrigued to see that it has a contribution from the elusive and eccentric chanteuse Mary Margaret O'Hara ... not to mention Nick Cave, Eliza Carthy and Lou Reed! Cheers, Hester

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me. We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot, Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho. We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot, Drink up me 'earties, yo ho. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me. We extort, we pilfer, we filch, and sack, Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho. Maraud and embezzle, and even high-jack, Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me. We kindle and char, inflame and ignite, Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho. We burn up the city, we're really a fright, Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho. We're rascals, scoundrels, villans, and knaves, Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho. We're devils and bla…

Hello to all, from Gunner Maggie! The census is winding down, and the number of Bounding Mainiacs is approaching 400. Wow! Going Overboard, Bounding Main's latest CD, is scheduled to be finished The second week of December! This is our most collaborative work to date, and includes a few original songs, a few live takes, a few ballads, and lots and lots of fun! We have worked hard to make this our best CD yet, and we sincerely hope you are pleased with it. We distribute via CDBaby, but it takes them about 30 days to process new CDs, which means you can't get it from them before Christmas, so if you want to order a copy directly from us, write to me a maggiehannington@…

Ahoy, mates! I'm in need of aid, and I'm sure one of you will be able to help out. I need the lyrics to that classic, "Bein' a pirate is all fun and games..." Don't know if that's the title. It might be "It's all part of bein' a pirate" or even "You can't be a pirate with all of your parts." I've heard it at a couple of gatherings, and enjoy it, but I'm usually ... how shall I put this? ... chemically incapacitated, or perhaps drunk would be a better word, to catch all the lyrics. So I've got one here and one there, but they don't make up a whole song. And on the subject of favorite pirate tunes, it's hard to top "Scurvy" by Cap'n Bogg & Salty. You can hear the MP…

OK we have 5 new tunes so far for our 6th venture into recording, the working title for the CD is "Ship Happens", also the name of one of the tunes. What think you of the name? Too risque, for us? Bear in mind our other CD titles: Meet The Brigands Bloody Seamen Pirate Scum X Inner Buccaneer As usual, we perform the new stuff for a season, and then record it, so release will not be til Yule or thereabouts.

So today I get an envelope from an old friend. He had found an old receipt for the sound system I had bought for the band I was in at the time. But recently I had sent him some tracks of the pirate/sea song stuff I had been doing. Inside the mailer envelope was a wrapped present. Inside the paper I found this.. This edition was published in 1920. There are two more editions after it. Here is a page from inside Sorry the spacing is wierd not sure how to fix that with the picture embedding thing.

I heard the Mermaid Song every Friday morning of my youth, thanks to a DJ on an obnoxious Central NJ radio station. He would play this every Friday morning, because of the opening lyrics. I was thrilled to find it on a CD put out by the performers of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. They do a fine cover of the song (the performance of the ship's cook must be heard to be believed!) but the lyrics were a bit different than I had remembered. I've included a slightly different version below. Has anyone heard any variations of this song? The Mermaid Song Twas Friday morn when we set sail And we were not far from the land When the captain, he spied a lovely mermaid …

Stan Rogers is a great Canadian Maritime singer. His songs are almost exclusively about the sea and include traditional stuff as well. He also wrote the famous pirate related song, Barrett's privateers. Although Stan died in 1990, he's still worth giving a listen to.
