My FAVORITE band, FLOGGING MOLLY have a new cd out on Tues the 14th...and it's got PIRATES!!!! OH YEAH!!! If you haven't listened to these guys (and gal) you need to. It's the best and baddest Irish punk on the planet. I've been following them for awhile now, and they just get better and better. From time to time, they've flirted with the subject of piracy, mostly in the graphics of their shirts. But on the new cd they have at least 3 tracks I know of that are about pirates: Seven Deadly Sins Queen Anne's Revenge Tobacco Island (about Barbados) Wanna listen? Check it out HERE. Go to the Goodies area, for mp3 files of Seven Deadly Sins and QAR. Trust me, this group is…

You may of heard of Running Wild and if you spend many a night chasing the horizon listening to them then try a band from over here in Scotland: Alestorm! It's been quiet in this forum as late so just thought I would just throw something together for the fun of it..... Several years ago I had the distinct pleasure of hearing the Corsairs at Silverleaf Ren Faire in Michigan. It seems there has been some changes since then and wonder if anybody could make a comment on their recent reincarnation..... I also would like to recommend to all of you out there that if you have the chance to see "Pint and Dale" grab on with both hands. This Duo is familiar to alot of the East and West Coast Ren Faire people and they do a number of Maritime fests. Singing traditional songs of the sea, along with newer arrangements of some of the…

Ok, so hear o'em? Like 'em? Dislike e'm? I heard them for me first time in Big Bear where they had a sound that what 'different yet familiar' 'n it drew me in (plus they got a cute violinist). Then I saw them again at NorthCal Pirate Fest, this time I had t' get one o' their CDs 'n listen'd t' it all th' way home....then it hit me! They sound like a piratey version o' 'Blind Melon' with a hint o' 'Guns&Roses' 'n just a dash o' 'Jethro Tull' (the TJ be come'n from the piper o'course). They did some original stuff as well as their own takes on some traditional.

For the renfest and any other thing the Jade Dragon crew does, we stick to songs we know are not copyrighted or are listed as free domain and/or traditional. Sometimes we are inspired by versions from our favourite other performers but we are not doing their songs but more motivated and formed on their variation of a song. I've had a number of people come up to me with a list of songs they want to perform at BCRF. I remind them that their signed agreement/contract with us states that they are responsible for any copyrights or the like. We don't design their sets so we can't really control their performance in this way. I always tell them that the songs we (cast at …

A topic in another thread got me t' think'n about shanties sung in a bit more traditional manor then what we hear them at faire today then I remembered this link I found. He has four CDs it says but ye can sample some full tracks here: Roger McGuinn's Fork Den He has nice handful o' 'seafaring' song such as: Whup Jamboree Perry’s Victory Haul Away Joe Heave Away Bonny Ship the Diamond 'n be sure t' check th' links on th' lower right for a wonderful score o' "The Gallows Pole", he also does a right fine version o' "Silver Dagger". ...now if we can just get Capt'n Scapegoat t' cut a CD, I would love t' hear "Sirens on the Shore" again!

I'll be damned, The Brigands, in the August issue of Renaissance Magazine, along with the likes of Bounding Main and the Pyrates Royal. Aye, in an all pirate issue, the magazine picks the "unique pirate acts" from around the country. We be honored to be in such fine company!

I was thinking about pyratical love songs, and t'be honest, I couldn't think of many. The only one that really comes to mind is The Water Is Wide, especially the James Taylor version. Of course, Mari Mac is also pyratical, and I *guess* it could be considered a love song... Any thoughts?

Hey -- does anyone know where I might be able to DL free sheet music on the web? Specifically, I really want to download the ol' Disney tune "A Pirate's Life For Me," and I *know* there's places on the web when free sheet music can be downloaded, but I can't find any of 'em. I have found places where I could just buy the book of "Disney Collected Songs" or whatever the title is that has "Pirate's Life" included in it -- but it's always in a book of sheet music something like two hundred pages long, and I _really_ don't want to dish out thirty bucks for the big book when the only thing I want from it is the (probably) one-page-long song somewhere in the middle. So if yo…

Ahoy, folks. Tom Lewis in his song "Sailor's Prayer" includes the following chorus: Oh Lord above, send down a dove with beak as sharp as razors to cut the throats of them there blokes what sells bad beer to sailors. The credits list written by Tom Lewis, chorus (trad.). So how traditional is traditional? Lewis himself purports to have found the chorus listed in a book, which itself called the verse "traditional." The book was published in 1968, and was by Charles MacHardy, titled Send down a dove. The book does in fact include the verse, and does call it traditional [although the wings, not beak, were sharp as razors]. But there the trail seem - for me so far …

Johnny Tarr! Word got around that Johnny Tarr was no pretender, From Clare to here they'd lock up the beer when Johnny went on a bender Down at Dickey Mack's, the Rising Sun, or at the Swan If he was drinking at seven by ten to eleven well all the booze woulb be gone! Hear is a time to use your head (if you still got one) to be creative. Try to think up some new verses to the song "The Drunken Sailor." "The Drunken Sailor" is fo'c'sle song. In other words it is a song sang when there is nothing to do and the crew of the ship is board. What shall we do with the drunken sailor, What shall we do with the drunken sailor, What shall we do with the drunken sailor, earlye in the morning. (What ever the verse that you create is) ex, Shave his belly with a rusty razor Shave his belly with a rusty razor, Shave his belly with a rusty razor, earlye in the morning. Way, way up she rises, Way, way up she rises, Way, way up she rises,…
