This is a kind of semi-piratical video production of the famous shanty , sung in French! No real robbing or pillaging, but lots of comely youngsters singing, sailing and donning pirate-like costume.

I just wrote this sea shanty, to be sung by the crew of the Cynosure in my short novel The Treasure of Ashur MacBain, although I expect no more than a stanza or two will actually appear in the finished story. I conceived of it as a halyard shanty, but I'm not sure the rhythm is right for that. The one halyard shanty I know, Blow the Man Down, spaces the effort out more evenly between every line. This one sounds more like What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor? or Santy Ano, capstan shanties where the sailors push several times on the chorus. It uses the tune of , with a longer pause between stanzas for the chorus.CRO'JACK WILL Oh, Cro'jack Will had squinty eyes And…

Hi, For a writing project I'm working on (same one I was asking about the ships for), I'm trying to figure out what sea shanties would've been around by 1721. As far as I can tell, "All For Me Grog" and "Health To The Company" were written after 1721, and I'm wondering if there are any others out there I could use. Thanks!

A Native Rhode Islander, Jon writes about the historical and current goings on about the smallest states with one of the longest coastlines. His song about a 17th Century Pirate raid is awesome. "Kept on Fishin'" has become a standard amongst the Shanty Groups, both sides of the pond. It's been covered by Liam Clancy of Clancy, O'Connel and Clancy. "Catch and Release" is about a new form of "sport whaling" using suction cup harpoons, you get where that's going! "Restless Waters" let's you know behind the wit and sarcasm is a very big heart. You can find Jon at www.jcampbellwampum.com Incidently, he also makes some beautiful jewelery! Sincerely, Capn'Rob

I got my "Portuguese" baroque guitar yesterday. I bougth a bout a year ago an old viola da terra (small tradittionnal portuguese guitar) It was probably from the 1930s but it was not in very good shape. I knew that the size of the instrument would make a nice baroque guitar so I removed the damaged table and finger board and brougth it to my luthier. about 13 month later, here it is: It also features a dual passive transducer connected to a 1/8 mini jack nicely inserted in a water buffalo horn endpin. The pegs are actually 4:1 planetary pegs that imitate the look of traditionnal wooden pegs but with the versatility of modern guitar tuners. I'm very happy with th…

There once was a Pirate captain named Paolo. He was well feared in many parts of the world, especially Caldonia, (modern day scotland) where he was widely known for his brutality. He was also known for his fear of drowning. Captain Paolo could not swim. When his ship, which he boldy named after himself, the HMS PAOLO, was hit by a storm, it appeared that the vessel would sink. Faced with the prospect of drowning, Paolo decided to take his own life. However, the storm cleared, just as he pulled the trigger. Without their captain, the crew was forever lost at sea. Reports were made of seeing the captainless ship still wandering the seas, even hundreds of years later…

I am a HS teacher and our parent-teacher organization is putting on a talent show. I have good baritone/bass voice and full kit. I am informed that talent agents will be attending the show. What song do you suggest I perform? I don't know if I'll have an accompanist or if I will be performing a cappella.

So like most of my more creative written work, this one started out with a bottle of Jameson's that quickly turned into Irish car bombs until my quartermaster and I started changing the words to one of our favorite Drop Kick Murphy's songs "Kiss Me I'm Shitfaced". If you don't know the song it's basically a long list of pick up lines used in a bar to pick up women. This is what we have so far... I lead a Pirate Gang, were the most feared in the land, were wanted in both England and France. I sail through Beluga, To drink in Tortuga, With a line of lassies waiting for a chance. So come on my pretty, I'll make you feel witty. These other wenches mean nothing to m…

We are trying to identify this song, from Master and Commander, by the lyric sung in the movie, but no luck so far. Any one know the title of this tune? "Come all you bold young sailors, A warning take by me and never leave your happy home to sail the raging sea" Thanks mates!

I don't know if anyone has discussed this or not, but one of my favorite bands has an epic sea shanty/sea themed song that is one of my favorites. The band is called the Decemberists and the song is called The Mariners Revenge . If you have never heard of the band or the song you are really missing out.
