Dearest Capt W. E. Roberts... I see ye have placed another of your whimsical poems following mine about Luigi. It was very nice. So... I hereby challlenge ye to a battle of words. (and anyone else who wishes to join in ) I will duel you with poetry. Lets keep them short, and we can start when you say you accept the challenge. If you dare. We can let our fellow pirates decide wich is the better of what we write. So...... To Capt. W. E. Roberts a battle of words if you dare one with humor and whit if you care we shall keep them short without great retort unless a lack of words you despair send me your reply without the excuse of old quills or ink ran dry and if yo…

I know, it has been rumoured often whether there will be a sequel to M&C, here's such an example of a rumor in sunday's 7/27/08 issue of the Providence Journal Link, you can find the paragraph that says: "The makers of Master and Commander, starring Russell Crowe, bought the Rose to star in the movie as the Surprise and paid Bailey to bring the ship to the West Coast for the filming. It was hoped that after the movie’s release, Newport might be able to buy Rose, but the movie studio decided to keep the ship for a possible sequel, Bailey says". ...basically, the state of Rhode Island has the blues for the HMS Rose enough to want to build it's own, since it can't g…

"Drunken sailors" have been removed from the lyrics of a nursery rhyme in a government-funded books project. But the Bookstart charity says the re-writing of What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor? has "absolutely nothing to do with political correctness". The charity says that the shift from drunken sailor to "grumpy pirate" was to make the rhyme fit a pirate theme, rather than censorship. "Put him in the brig until he's sober," has also been lost in the new version. This latest ideological spat over nursery rhymes was sparked by the re-writing of What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor. Complete story at - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/education/7860869.s…

I really admire some of the members signature "graphics" here at the pub. Somebody has put some serious time into them... so I thought I would have a little contest. I will take nominations this week for the top signature graphics, and then post a poll next week. The biggest vote getter will get a prize from my treasure chest. I am not sure what yet, but it could be anything from a T-shirt, a set of original buttons, a book, fabric for a costume etc..... On second thought, I will say that the dead line for "entries" is 20 February. That will give some folks that have been meaning to get a signature graphic together a chance (and maybe some motivation?. Good luck …

Greetings all! I've worked for Oregon Leather Company in Eugene for 10 years and Tandy for 10 before that. We have a lot of re enactors for all periods coming in and the newest thing is Steampunk. I'm now hooked as well and have a few leather projects in the works reflecting this. I would like to offer help or advice to folks trying to make their leather -related gear. It keeps me in the loop and keeps me thinking! You can contact me here or PM me anytime; I check mail about twice a week or so. Also at www.oregonleatherco.com Looking forward to this!

Via the"Fore Topsail" from author James L. Nelson newsletter: "The History Channel will be airing a show called Real Pirates of the Caribbean on July 9 at 8 pm (check local listings. I’m not sure what that means, but that’s what people always say). The documentary will cover the true history of piracy in the Americas, and features commentary by a number of well-know pirate experts, including James L. Nelson. In an effort to explode the myths of piracy, the authorities were placed on a set dripping with every pirate cliche in the book, including but not limited to rum casks, chests overflowing with jewels and coins, and sundry cutlasses and other weapons. Despite that min…

A performer at Walt Disney World and theater-community mainstay died Monday, four days after he was injured onstage at the Magic Kingdom. Mark Priest, 47, fell Thursday while playing in "Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial," an interactive show in which actors lead guests through a series of pirate-skills tests, a Disney spokeswoman said. Priest, who was in a mock sword fight, stumbled on a wet spot on the stage and then banged into a wall, said friend Jeffrey Breslauer. His injuries included a broken vertebra in his neck and a cut that required 55 stitches to his scalp. Priest was moved out of intensive care and appeared to be improving, but he experienced complica…

If any of you locals would like to have Ted and Terry sign a copy of the DMC DVD on Tuesday the 5th of December, they will be doing so here on the Studio lot for a few hours that day. Now I can gate a few people to come aboard, not a whole hoard so first come first served as they say. If your interested let me know although... you should be aweare the the cost of the DVD will be a little higher then if you bought the thing at Target. Most likey sticker price so the autographs will come at a slight cost I would venture to say. Up to you what it's worth to you but I thought I'd put out the offer for those that might want to indulge. Offer stands open to all u…
