So what are your opinions about pirate documentaries? I think the best is blackbeard Real Pirate of the Caribbean or also known as blackbead terror at sea . While there is tiny tiny errors it is by far the best documentary of pirates made yet. Although makers were fallen in typical inaccuracies like: cavalry boots, sailor pigtails,Some weapons are from later time, popular version of Blackbeard’s pirate flag, too common earrings and I think that some of those big belts and harnesses are somewhat Hollywood-stylish. But it is the most accurate I have seen yet. Worst I think is HISTORY CHANNEL's True Caribbean Pirates. So many errors that you can never say how man…

Well I have not posted about a specific issue in quite some time now, but I feel this issue warrants such a post. I strongly feel that this issue is the best to come out of our camp and feel that Capt Nichols has so much more locked a ready to go for the next issue. I believe it will only get better! This issues cover has the prizes for the Devil's Dozen contest on it. A sword from Tony Swatton and one from myself that you can just see the point. It also has the Order of Leviathan ring that will be given to the 13 winners. First time that the cover has had only an object and I think it works great! The back cover has a lovely yet simple and clean ad by yours truly. I t…

I've read on Pat Croce's ( owner of Pirate Soul Museum ) web site, that he and the director of Gladiator were making a movie on "BlackBeard", I've surfed the web and they say there is a "BlackBeard" movie coming out next year, but nothing about the details yet. Anyone know more on this movie, looking forward to it, when it comes out.

I know this was in Pirates Magazine but I think it has merit. Do you think todays Outlaw Bikers (criminals) could be compared to the Pirates of the past?

I knew we would see a run of pirate related movies in the wake of POTC2. Was I surprised to find this little gem. Pirates is a movie made by some person who goes by the name "Joone" and is listed as a photographer and film maker. Most of the featured women of the movie have the look of the adult industry about them. I found the movie kinda funny and the effects weren't bad. If you have a bunch of adult friends in port and want something fun to go with the rum and aren't looking for "art"this movie might do the trick.

I enjoyed POTC 3 AWE but I had had some questions and concerns. Perhaps a few things were cut during the editing phase of production. I don't know. But maybe you do or at least have your own ideas... When Jack sees/ speaks to the multiple Jacks is it an effect of the Locker or does he always this kind of crazy drama going on in his head? Why the heck would Beckett want to kill the Kraken? He could destroy anyone with that beast! Are the spirits in the water different from the spirits in the boats (Like Gov. Swan)? If Beckett wanted Jack dead so badly why didn't he just kill him instead of locking him in the hold on the Dutchman? What was the past relationship bet…

I'll kick it off with one of my Faves: The Island (1980) Written by Peter Benchley (author of 'Jaws') Michael Cain stars Blair Maynard, an inquisitive British reporter who sets out to investigate a series of mysterious ocean disappearances in the Caribbean. While flying over the questionable area with his young son in tow, Maynard's airplane crashes and the two are subsequently stranded on an isolated island, uncharted by the modern world. In time they are captured by descendants of a band of seventeenth-century pirates who, from their base on a remote island, raid and destroy any boat that enters their "territorial waters." After enduring torture, Caine and his young…

Okay folks, one or two emails is one thing but I a being overwhelmed with people asking me if there is truth to the rumor that there is a casting call for POTC2 soon. No. No. And no! I don;t care where you heard it or in what state of the union. I don't care how nice the person was or how knowledgable they seemed. There is no scheduled upcoming auditions. For anything. Whoever is still taking this rumor out for it's daily walk will you please stop. Again, there is NO TRUTH to the RUMOR that there is a casting call soon for POTC2 At least not one sanctioned by the production company or Jerry Bruckheimer productions. I promise, I promise I will post it here …

Sad to say. . .. we're still a bit behind but Pyrates Way #11 has gone to press this very day. Included in her pages is information on Grace O'Malley, Jeff McCay's Pyrate Screenplay, A look back at Pirate Master (with more info than you expect), and tons more. The best part of gettin' yer hands on a subscriber's version of Pyrates Way #11 is the FREE booty. Of course, we include free booty in every issue. . . . it's what's made us the most popular pyrate magazine! This issue we fulfill a promise long past. . . we extend our issue count to #5 on the year with our own "Scallywags" magazine for kids. This small addendum to our usual feast of pyrate delights is directed…

First off let me state again how AMAZING this film is, what a landmark achievement it is, and how proud as hell I am of the cast and crew. I tip me hat to ya! So I'm sitting here in the office, mulling over the movie, replaying it in my head, yearning to see it again asap. Maybe it's just me, maybe I missed some key dialogue...I dunno. Check these out: What happened to the defeated pirate crew once the curse was lifted? I assume they were hung, but it's not shown. What happened to the treasure Jack made off with from the cave? One minute he's rowing back to the Dauntless with Will and Liz, draped in gold. Next scene he's on the gallows. Did he give it to Will so he…

Ahoy, everyone! I have a proposition for all poets (and artists) who have not published before but who would like to see if they can make a ducat or two from their poems or artwork. I've recently self-published two books of poetry and am adept at the process it requires. One of the poems is entitled "The Homecoming of Danny Fry." It tells the tale of a young Englishman who goes to sea, becomes a member of a privateer crew (at some point becoming captain), and then, after years of being at sea, he comes home to live out his life in the village where he was born. His first night home he goes back to a friend's pub and spends all night drinking and feasting with his old…

Since the screen writers, Ted and Terry spilled the bilge at the screening tonight I will share it with you. (Ahem) The oficial working title for POTC 2 is: *DEAD MAN"S CHEST* And once again, they want to make it very clear the Kieth Richards is NOT in the movie. Night all!

Anyone else seen this? I don't often post.. ahem.. but thought I'd write a line or two.. I watched it the other day... and though some people seem to be having a poor opinion of it.. I thought it was great fun... I especially liked some of the work songs being sung on board ship. A very different rendition of Lowlands to what I have heard before. I thought the character of Trelawney was an interesting departure from normal. And couldn't help but wonder if it was a reflection of how bankers/ fund managers etc.. are being viewed since the economic downturns that have been affecting world economies? Anyway.. was great to hear Silvers voice done with a VERY London accent.…

We got word the there is going to be a writers strike come May 2. Everything not registered by then will be held up til Neptune knows when. It's alway fatal to TV shows but... features can be affected too. Keep your fingers crossed all is done on the scripts for POTC before then. (sigh)

I have FINALLY gotten my kids into the Playmobil pirate toys. Looking at the boats/ships, I have noticed that most are obviously variations of the same molds. This one sure looks to be based on a sloop: It is just missing the topsail and the second jib. What do ya'll think about these:

Ev'ry good pyrate needs some ink on his flesh, do ye be wearin any? I've just this one fer now: http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b129/blu...mgAnch=imgAnch1 It has since been colored, but i'll have to get some updated pics. I also want to get the traditional pyrate "Rats and Barrels" on me foot. The story goes that pyrates would get this tattooed on their feet for good luck because when a ship went down, the only things left afloat were rats and barrels........

For about a year now, we have fluttered with the idea of doing a special edition of Pirates Magazine all on steam punk. It started as a brainstorming idea with Charles Vess(the artist behind stardust) during Faerie Con 2007. The idea evolved several times and we decided not to do it as an issue of the magazine but as a bonus that would be more of a book. We are still in the early stages of this, but it is going to happen. We feel Steam Punk is growing in popularity and the extent that people go to put together there personalities is out of this world and worthy of attention. If you want to get onboard with us, now is the time. We want the best of the best and are willing…

Dresses were hysterical... This is a hysterical movie with Walter Mathow playing a Pirate Captain. It only on video currently, but soon to release on DVD in the US. This is one of my favorite pirate movies, because it is very historical in the contents of costumes, music, language, etc. And I be likin' my history! *snip from a site* Movie description Captain Red is the roughest, toughest buccaneer to sail the seven seas. Along with his young protege, he attacks a mighty Spanish galleon laden with a fortune in Aztec gold. Academy Award Nominations: Best Costume Design. Credits Producer: Tarak Ben Ammar, Thom Mount Cast: Charlotte Lewis, Chris Campion, Damien T…
