If you don't want to see spoilers about the POTC movies and other pirate pop culture media, then I suggest you do not visit this forum. There will be spoilers posted. There are many other forums to visit here at the pub such was Captain Twill, Plunder and Raids. There are many pirate pop media in circulation at this time. This forum is a place where people can converse about these. The posts may contain spoilers. I will not censor for spoilers. Read the posts at your own risk. Yers in pyracy and play,

Okay... Someone said "Swashbucklers" was the worst pirate movie ever. But what would you say the best pirate movie is? I would argue the best pirate movie would have to be just like any other great movie--one you can watch over and over again. Where people who don't necessarily give a crap about pirates can view it openly and objectively, and still walk away feeling it's a great movie. I don't necessarily want to jump on the "Pirates of the Carribbean" bandwagon, but I would say it's the best pirate movie. It's well-made. Exciting. Good acting. Plus, the "cheez" factor is minimum, considering it's a Disney movie and based on a theme-park ride. Are there are ot…

I caught some bits and pieces of Fox's new show, "Johnny Zero." The main character gets a job at Captain Jack's, a pirate-themed restaraunt. His boss (Jack, I presume, spends all of his screen time in full-on pirate garb, right down to a real hook (Johnny asks how he lost his hand, to which Jack replies, "poker game.") They spent a couple of scenes throughout the episode at Captain Jack's, right down to Johnny having to don an octopus costume and hand out booty at a children's pirate party. I don't know that pirates will play much of a roll in future episodes, but thought it worth sharing.

Ahoy, shipmates! Navigate on over to http://www.gather.com/viewVideo.action?id=11821949021893162 and take a look at Blackbead Productions' first major motion picture! It's based on a poem that tells the tale of a cursed pirate ship haunted by the ghost of one of the crew's victims! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll scream out loud! Well, maybe not out loud . . . but you might have nightmares! Well, maybe indigestion. But go see it anyway! Blackbead

I just finished reading "Mistress of the Seas" by John Carlova. (Truth be told, I bought it for Red Bess off'n ebay, and I started reading it before she got home from work, and I couldna put it down.) It's a rollicking good read, but it can't decide if it's fiction or non-fiction. The author gives every indication that he considered it to be non-fiction, but most of the details are made up from whole cloth. There are conversations that could not have been documented, and relationships that hold no basis in reality. Example: Anne Bonny tried, unsuccessfully, to spring Stede Bonnet from the hoosegow in Charleston. Yes, she probably bedded him, but a jailbreak? First…

I have a cable 'net connection, and it took me about three minutes to download this ... so if you have the time and the ability to unzip files, have a go at this, if you would. It's a bit of a PotC music video, set to the tune of (what else?) the Steve Miller Band's "Jungle Love" ... took me about three months of working on it in very sporatic bursts, but it's been done for awhile now -- jest took me awhile to figure out how to upload it to the 'net. This is, like, THE most creative computer thingy I have ever done ... hope ye enjoy. One word of advice -- the quality is decent, but could be better, so be sure to turn up the Brightness on your computer monitor as high as…

Remember it? Pretty good song! First appeared on their "Works, Vol. 1" album in 1977. Here's a video (with some fun images!): Here are the lyrics: Who'll make his mark The captain cried To the devil drink a toast We'll glut the hold With cups of gold And we'll feed the sea with ghosts I see your hunger for a fortune Could be better Served beneath my flag If you've the stomach For a broadside Come aboard my pretty boys I will take you and make you Everything you've ever dreamed Make fast the guns tonight we sail When the high tide floods the bay Cut free the lines And square the yards Get the black flag stowed away The turk the arab and the spaniard Will soon …

Ahoy, mates! Two weeks ago, a hardy group of pirate poets and artists set sail on a voyage of hope. In search of gold and glory, they published a book of poetry and artwork by and about pirates. This book, entitled Raising Black Flags, is currently on the market in a "Special Edition" format which will be replaced in about a week with a published format complete with International Standard Book Number, ready to be marketed at fine retailers around the world! If you want to take a gander at the book, go to Blackbead Books for a preview. The reason I'm posting this here is that we are already planning our next trip! We plan on putting out another book by Christmas of 2…

Greetings all! I've worked for Oregon Leather Company in Eugene for 10 years and Tandy for 10 before that. We have a lot of re enactors for all periods coming in and the newest thing is Steampunk. I'm now hooked as well and have a few leather projects in the works reflecting this. I would like to offer help or advice to folks trying to make their leather -related gear. It keeps me in the loop and keeps me thinking! You can contact me here or PM me anytime; I check mail about twice a week or so. Also at www.oregonleatherco.com Looking forward to this!

Just caught a portion of "Swashbuckler" on a cable channel. Had to be "one of the worst pirate movies I've ever seen"! The 1976 film stars James Earl Jones, Robert Shaw ("Jaws"), Peter Boyle as the evile gov'nuh, Beau Bridges (wearing what type uniform I have no clue), Genevieve Bujold, and Avery Schreiber. No doubt destined to be a classic, this film should be continuously shown (along with European Command AFN-TV commercials) to break the will of captured terrorists. Yours, &c. Mike
