A while ago I took note that there are wikis for such piratical things as the One Piece Manga, Pirates of the Burning Sea and Pirates of the Caribbean Online MMORPGs as well as the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but no Wikia for the subject of Pyracy itself, so I took it upon myself to start building a pirate wikia for all things piratical. Unfortunatly, I don't have the time or expertise to make the wikia everything I hoped it could be. I don't have enough computer savvy contributers as well. As a result, the wiki is only worked on when I have time to spare and reference materials at hand. I am therefore asking anyone who considers themselves a pirate scholar to…

Alpha Home Entertainment has released 2 dvds of episodes from the 1956 television series - there are only 4 episodes on each dvd, but at least they are available for around only $6 per dvd. I keep hoping for the entire series to become available in the US the way it is in the UK, but so far no go. Didn't see any prior posts on this, so thought I'd mention it. I've seen them listed at DeepDiscountDVD.com, Amazon.com, and at the source of Oldies.com. Fair Winds....

Hello fellow Pyrates, Last night I was watching CSPAN and they had an interview with the founder of Wikipedia. I had never known how it was started, it was trully interesting. The founder mentioned there are many splinter wikia and since there is none on the topic of Pirates, (perhaps someone here may get one started..hmmm Carricolli comes to mind...lol) they do have a POTC wiki. I thought I would share the link with you to check out or partake in. POTC Wiki

The minute I signed off this board I was fortunate to catch a new TV episode of Globetrekker "Galleons, Pirates, & Treasure" on Channel 21 WLIW here in NY/NJ. They did a whole special on Port Royal Jamaica, Rum bars, Ann Bonny's/Mary Read's jail cell, the island where Jack Rackam was hanged, various shipwrecks, Key West & some reenactors (though no mention of PIP, those weevils), Blackeard, etc. pretty good, and they are selling a $19.95 dvd of the episode Globtrekker: Galleons, Pirates & Treasure....though the wesite only said "tbd" of this episode ( I guess it's because it's recent). Nice to see all that aqua colored water in Key West. The follo…

Haunted A tale from the 1700s grabbed John Stimpson and wouldn't let go By Don Aucoin, Boston Globe Staff October 4, 2006 PRINCETON -- In the shadow of Mount Wachusett, a soft rain has begun to fall on a roadside cemetery where John Stimpson is gazing at an 18th-century gravestone that is curiously well-preserved. Article Tools ``Here she is. Martha Keyes," Stimpson says. ``She's the woman who's haunting the mountain still." He is only half-kidding. Maybe less than half. When it comes to the tale of Martha Keyes and her daughter, Lucy -- whom one historian called ``the Lost Child of Wachusett Mountain " -- Stimpson is like a lot of folks in this small town: tre…

An article from Rye and Battle Today online: Glad to be a pirate of the Caribbean But film actor Jonathan Linsley is happy to be back in Bexhill ... for a decent cup of tea BEXHILL may have been cold and overcast for much of the week. But actor Jonathan Linsley is home from the Bahamas for a couple of weeks - and he's thrilled to be here. He has been filming the sequels to Pirates Of The Caribbean, starring Johnny Depp (as Jack Sparrow), Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightly and Geoffrey Rush. Jonathan is playing a character called Ogilvy, one of a band of ghostly pirates, and has been working extensively on ship scenes, lashed by wind and rain. "I am delighted to be back …

Blackbead Books is proud to announce that one of our poets, Stephen Sanders, won an "Editor's Choice" Award at this year's Canis Latran Writing Competition at Weatherford College. The poem he took this honor with is "It's In Me Blood", an old pirate's reminiscence of a mate named "Ben Hawkins." "It's In Me Blood" was originally published in Echoes From Other Worlds. The Award included a certificate and publication in the annual Weatherford College anthology of poetry and fiction. The poem is also a part of the Brotherhood of the Gulf's stage show entitled "A Night at Devil's Tavern." For more information, and to purchase a copy of the book, catch up with Blackbead Bo…

A fellow at the Wizkids forums for Pirates put together a java applet fleet building program. It can be found here: http://coljac.net/admiral/ It's rather intuitive and has all cards up to and including the Davy Jones expansion. I've found it tremendously helpful for putting a fleet together and tracking my collection. Enjoy!

The Winter issue is at press and I should have proofs to approve just before I head out to LA on the third (for the big pre-pyratecon party in Long Beach). We're still on track for getting the magazines out in the mail in the next few weeks. The Spring issue will be the BIG one with all the information on PyrateCon including the full itinerary, maps, and entertainment/speaker information.
