Well, I saw three hours of Colonial House on PBS last night. All I have to say: to many freebies, too much incompetence. I remember Hawkyns said something about associates of his volunteering for the show and being turned down. Well, I have to say that "Colonial House" seems to be far more "reality TV" than the superior (and entertaining) "Frontier House." Some observations: Too many freebies. The houses were built for them, the natives spoke english, and there seemed neither any attempt nor urgency to try to do things in a time appropriate manner. "Frontier House" had its anachronisms, but the pioneers spent the first winter in a tent, because they didn't get thei…

AAAAARRRGGGHHH! Apologies if this has been asked b'fore, but why the blood o' ol' Bootstrap? Was it ever explaned in the film why it had to be Bootstrap's blood that released the curse? I be assumin' its b'cuz his mates murdered him, or mebbe cuz Bootstrap was the purest of heart (fer a pyrate) cuz he objected to the mutiny against ol' Cap'n Jack... mebbe I be soaked in too much rum, but I not be findin' a definate answer in the movie... any help from ye swabs?

I'm hoping the success of PotC123 will inspire more pirate movies in the near future. If you were making your own pirate movie, who would you cast as your Pirate Captain? My first pick would be a young Kris Kristofferson: Then again, even at 70, he's looking pretty good. If Keith Richards can play Jack Sparrow's dad in PotC3, then why not have Kris as Jack's American uncle in PotC4: Anyhow ... looking forward to seeing other's dream choices for casting a pirate king (or queen) in a hypothetical movie. Some franchises just don’t know when to quit. Whether or not people are getting sick and tired of the whole Pirates of the Caribbean thing, when a franchise makes that much money, it’s hard to let it die. We’ve been hearing rumblings about a possible fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie for months now, but tonight I got an email from the old friend of the site which not only confirmed a fourth movie will almost certainly be happening, but dropped details on where the series may end up going when it continues. Our source says that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is no longer just a possibility, it’s almost a certainty. More importantly, Johnny Depp is all but assured to retur…

Does anyone remember the really funny movie The Princess Bride? My friend got it in her head that she'd turn the movie/ book into a play at our school, so a bunch of us have been working on it and rehearsals 'ave started and it's looking pretty good, we've got lots a stage combat, and sword fighting, and acrobatics, and some really good actors. I'm really excited for it so I thought I'd share it with all you pyrates.

And I heard tell this was a dreadful movie.... If anything, the people are consistent. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End scored a hat trick for the billion-dollar Disney franchise Tuesday at the 34th Annual People's Choice Awards, becoming the third film in the series to be named Favorite Movie and, incidentally, the first to win for Favorite Threequel. Johnny Depp, in turn, was named Favorite Male Movie Star for the third straight year, and costar Keira Knightley got the nod for Favorite Female Action Star.

I saw the DVD and it was only 10 Euro, so i thought ok..one last little things (yeah yeah...there's the proverbial hole in the hand again... ), anyways, i am laughing from beginning to end! I can recommend it, it's a real pirate movie, lots of stereo types but heck, most movies have them with lots of humor.

Sad to say. . .. we're still a bit behind but Pyrates Way #11 has gone to press this very day. Included in her pages is information on Grace O'Malley, Jeff McCay's Pyrate Screenplay, A look back at Pirate Master (with more info than you expect), and tons more. The best part of gettin' yer hands on a subscriber's version of Pyrates Way #11 is the FREE booty. Of course, we include free booty in every issue. . . . it's what's made us the most popular pyrate magazine! This issue we fulfill a promise long past. . . we extend our issue count to #5 on the year with our own "Scallywags" magazine for kids. This small addendum to our usual feast of pyrate delights is directed…

Yup - I broke down and got meself a couple o' dollies. :) One stands at my office monitor with his oh-so-serious 'the boss is watching' face on, while the other guards my computer at home, grinning like a monkey. They each have their own pistol, sword, and compass, hat and rum bottle - but still...something was missing... So, I rummaged through a sack of leather scraps, got out the scissors and needles and gut, and made each of 'em their very own 'booty bag'! Then I dug into the bottom of my jewerly box, found a few broken chains and loose rhinestones and tiny fake pearls, and filled the bags up with the goodies. I was fortunate enough to find a few cheapie nec…

Anyone else seen this? I don't often post.. ahem.. but thought I'd write a line or two.. I watched it the other day... and though some people seem to be having a poor opinion of it.. I thought it was great fun... I especially liked some of the work songs being sung on board ship. A very different rendition of Lowlands to what I have heard before. I thought the character of Trelawney was an interesting departure from normal. And couldn't help but wonder if it was a reflection of how bankers/ fund managers etc.. are being viewed since the economic downturns that have been affecting world economies? Anyway.. was great to hear Silvers voice done with a VERY London accent.…

Sorry everyone. As if I don't have enough upheavel right now, it was brought to my attention today that at a Pirate event this last weeks end, someone was openly sharing what should have been private information. And all this in front of someone that is related to the President if Walt Disney pictures who, I understand, took a GREAT deal of exception to this information being told. Private, story board issues and the Gods know what else. (sigh) It befuddles me no end. So, since losing my job is not an option as a cost for keeping you all up to date with what is going on, I'm really sorry but from now on the matter will have to be a closed one. I am, really, really s…

Okay, I saw POTC 2 and had good time but there was A LOT OF STUFF GOING ON IN THAT MOVIE. I fear I've missed a few things. If you have ideas or answers on these topics let me hear you. And if you worked on the movie I'd love to hear your insights. First, what/ was that creepy place from which Jack escaped via the coffin? Oddly, why are they throwing coffins in the ocean instead of just wrapping the dead in a section of bed linen with a big rock to sink them? I assmused that Jack was moving toward the goal of deadmans chest before he was visited by Bootstrap. What do you think? Monkey steals coin at the end of POTC and monkey is now undead. Where is the coin? We…
