Figured since I joined, might as well share some of my more pirate-themed pieces I've done within the past couple o' days. Both pieces were done in Photoshop, freehand.

So I have been fiddling around with wood burning for a little while and decided to undertake a little project. I have needed a new coffee table for along while so I went out and procured me a nice unfinished table for a song and a dance and I am going to put my new skill to the test. I plan on covering the top of the table with a wood burned map of the caribbean. I will keep you all posted and try and get some pictures up soon.

So I found myself in want of some navigation tools for an upcoming quasi-educational engagement, but didn't want to fork out the dough to buy the real things. Thus I adopted the common question of "What would a pirate do?", which I often ask myself when my pirate garb doesn't fit right, or some other obstacle comes my way. In this case, when in need of navigation tools, but not having real ones available, what would a pirate do? Short answer, drink some rum. Long answer, take a couple of rum bottles (once emptied) and craft a 28 second hourglass from them. And BAM!, you're well on your way to being able to gage your ship speed (once you craft a chip log, which should cert…

Okay, it's been over a week since I sent out the cards, so I'm going to go on the assumption that all the cards have reached home ports safe and sound. So, time to post some pictures, so everyone can see how much fun we had. Also, post a brief description of how you made them, in case anyone wants to play in the future. Here's what my dinning room table looked like the day I divided up the cards and goody bags, and had the mailing envelopes ready to go. Now, let's see some cards, guys!

Ahoy, mates! I'm looking for someone to provide illustrations for some poems. The idea is to take some poetry and create a sort of "graphic novel." You provide the illustrations and I provide the poetry. Anyone interested? Blackbead

So carrying over from the recent projects thread, I've been having much silly fun with boxes of late. I found a great resource for pine wine boxes from the local booze shop as well as Michael's and Hobby Lobby craft stores. So today I finished up my by-level cargo box: This is a recent wine and goblet box: One of my wife's many cook/spice boxes: Our game box: I've two more mine boxes to convert and a crate. Whoohoo!

Ahoy Mates!!! A bit ago I was contacted by a Pirate who's level of Spooky rivals that of my own t' create a leathern pirate hat that'd befit such a magnificent creature of the nyght... After many a fortnyght of consultin' and consortin' with th' darkest of powers "NyghtWing" was brought forth t' this here material plane through my hands... A menacing Vampire Bat looms from it's bow an' fixes it's dark gaze upon ye' with faceted black Swarovski crystal eyes... A suitably dark companion t' my own Skull Hat of Spooky Doom t' be sure... It has flown from here t' it's rightful owner, Batavia Bellamorte... An' upon her head may it bring a chill t' the winds an' darken th' …

Greetings, pirate arteests one and all! I'm currently putting together a second anthology of poetry, short stories, and artwork. This year's work will include both pirate-themed and scifi/fantasy-themed pieces. Last year's books has sold almost 200 copies and while we aren't getting rich it has been extremely rewarding, in so many other ways, to have my work in publication. For instance, Raising Black Flags, last year's book, will be featured at a book signing at the Texas Renaissance Faire's Pirate Adventure weekend! Four of the other poets and I will get to sit behind a table and sign autographs and sell copies of the book to that portion of the 50,000 people who w…

Tis an idea here, mates... having a Pub Yearbook with pics of us at events of that year, etc.. just like a class yearbook. another idea is like the pen pal booklets where you make a tiny booklet with your current name and addy on it, then send it off to a friend and they will send it to someone else, etc. Eventually you will get it back with various people to write to. But instead of writing to them, have them paste a pic or scrapbook a page of themselves as a pirate or whatever. They could write something, too, I guess. But the yearbook... would be fun! Cost? Well... I suppose I could check into it. :) ~Lady B

This is a custom made King George the Second Letter of Marque I have just finished making for one of the bretheren. It is 18"x25" like many of the original ones and has the strip of seals at the bottom like like original documents of the era too. It was researched as much as I could from actual letters or marque, royal charters and indentures to make it as authentic as possible. It is witnessed by William Pitt who was secretary of state in 1758 and George Anson who was Lord Admiral of the admiralty at this time too. All the signatures are actual reproductions of surviving examples. It is printed on a heavyweight parchment vellum which feels and looks as close to an…

I've been working on a complicated process of designing and 3D printing relief plates. Then using the plates those to create the basis of 1/1 editions with a common printed element. The common element here is ,very loosely, a 16th century caravel.

Does any know what some of the old "pirate" maps would look like? What paper would they be? On how big it would measure or would it be more like a manuscript? Would it be in color or black and white?

I was playing around with my art pencils last night and out came this poor marooned pirate. I'm normally not very good at drawing people so I'm pretty happy with how he looks. Let me know what you think. All comments are appreciated, and constructive criticism welcomed.

I'm not starting a new journal round...been there, done that. This is a website that is offering a sketchbook/art journal challenge to about two-dozen artists, who will post pictures of their work, give tutorials, and talk about what supplies they used. The fun part is, they have asked anyone who wants to follow along with their own journals, to participate...in a non-official way. Here is the lowdown. Challenge For those of you who have blog sites, or web sites, here is a chance to post links to them, show off your work/writing, and get some traffic. There is one theme posted each month. Not too intimidating. You create a journal page/pages using that theme, post the…
