Imagine yourself walking out the door, an eclectic handkerchief knotted smartly around your neck. Or maybe tied fashionably around your hair. Tucked in a pocket. Or wrapped on your wrist. The compliments pour in and you can say "Thanks! I made this!" This is your golden opportunity to share in a Pyracy Pub creative effort. Go on the account with us and receive a hand printed handkerchief when the booty is shared out. What is expected of you? Step 1: Sign up by July 14th. Step 2: Create a nautical or piracy related design as a printing block or plate. (This is the real work you need to do. More resources to follow on this.) Step 3: Send your block…

Hopefully to begin August 1. What you need: Art book; usually 9" by 6" Ability to spend $5-$10 monthly to mail the journal to the next artist on the pub Live within the contiguous United States A commitment to see the project to the end The guidelines of the sketchbook rounds: 12 artists max. Books passed on the 1st of each month, gives each artist at least four weeks to do two to three pages. Keep the books fairly small - such as the easily available black, 9" x 6" ring-bound artists sketch books Any art work style/medium is fine. This is not "fine art" nor is it meant to be "period". It is a fun project with a pirate theme. Materials, as I said, can be a…

This is where any comments about the ongoing Pyrate Comix should go. The Pyrate Comix is here.....https://pyracy.com/index.php?showtopic=13374 Yeah, I know it's weird having two threads about the same subject, but I didn't want to clutter the Comix thread with any questions or comments.

Many members of the Pub also make some kind of jewelry. Whether to sell or just for fun. I thought a place where we could trade tips, share works in progress, ask for help, or just hang around and talk jewelry would be nice. Posting pictures, either of your work, your workplace, or of what inspires you, is highly recommended! THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO SELL YOUR WARES! So, sit back, sip your coffee, and lets share our lust...er, love...of jewelry.

Anyone working on a current project they care to share? I know some of us are involved in the Sketchbook rounds, but do you have any large projects on tap for the winter? Painting, sewing, sketching, etc

I got a beautiful Williamsburg pewter tankard at a thrift store today. It is engraved on both sides. Has anyone ever tried to remove engraving before? When I look close, it looks like a bit of the metal has been pushed up and out at the edges of the engraved letters, so I'm wondering if it may be possible to somehow chase some of that metal back into the grooves. Barring that, is it possible to simply buff out the engraving? How about filling it in with silver solder or the like? I only paid $1.69 for it, far far below it's retail price, so I'd like to try to salvage it if at all possible.

Okay, I thought I would start a new thread for the second round of trading cards. I will add the list of participants top the bottom of this post as they join. Guidelines (because we don't like rules) 1. We will be aiming for 10 participants (including the cat herder, me and wife as a team). 2. Each participant will create ten cards of about 2 1/2" X 3 1/2". Traditionally the cards are all the same, but we're pyrates and don't follow the rules or traditions, so chaos is more than perfectly acceptable (and almost preferable). So 10 cards all the same or a variety of 10 cards is cool, don't hesitate to do what works best for you. Please remember to place your mark or s…

The guidelines as quoted from Ransom back in the first or second round... This time we will be aiming for a (to borrow from Sailor Jerry) "Stewed, Screwed and Tattooed" theme. Symbols of the harder side of living either at sea or ashore. Anything having to do with drink, tattooing or piercings. While tattoos may still be up for discussion as to being period correct( Tattoo thread ), this is strictly for fun. Think tankards, rum bottles, taverns signs, tattoo designs, small beer, large beer, etc. Please aim to have your cards ready and sent to me no later than July 1st. so I can sort them and send them back at close to the end of July (some may bleed over to the fir…

The guidelines as quoted from Ransom back in the first or second round... This time we will be aiming for a "Lost" theme, or "Lost because of x weather" for the more ambitious. Please aim to have your cards ready and sent to me no later than March 26th so I can sort them and send them back at close to the end of March (some may bleed over to the first few days of April because of the sometimes slow postal service). So far we have the below list of volunteers (or voluntold in one case  ) I'll be cat-herding, I mean organizing this round by popular vote (which means no one else wanted to ) 1. Patrick Hand 2. J8ksdad 3. Pew 4. Gunpowder Gertie 5. michaelsbagl…

Artist Trading Cards or ATCs, are small works of art traded among artists. The challenge is to be as creative as possible on a small scale. For more information on ATCs click HERE. I'm calling the ones we will do PTCs = Pyrate Trading Cards. The artwork will be the same as the journals—anything goes. The BIG difference between the PTCs and the journals, is that there will be no waiting months and months for a book to come back. PTCs are a one-shot deal. Here is how it will work, if the max of ten people sign on. 1. Each person makes ten cards, one for each player plus themselves — they can all be the same design, or all different. 2. You mail all the cards to me. As t…

I've looked everywhere in the hopes of finding pictures I could use to put together my own pirate flag, but to no avail. I can't even provide good sample pictures for what I would like put together, with the exception of the well known crossed swords. So I'll try to describe it as best as I can. Basically I want the flag to have a wolf head centered, skull or not a skull, in the center of the flag just like on a generic Jolly Roger(skull and crossed bones). To the sides of the wolf's head would be two wings, preferably bat-like, kind of like Avenged Sevenfold's logo, but if the wolf's head is drawn as a skull it might look a bit more cool to have the wings be bone wing…

Bored, waiting for the repair man who is going to fix the fancy new stove that is fortunately still under warranty... Soooooo... I have a ton of lead pirates. Well, maybe not a ton, since some of them are lead free pewter, but I digress. I need to paint some. Soooooo... if I do, I'll post the results. One thing I have painted recently, a nice piratey treasure chest. This is in 25/28/30mm scale, so in the picture, the square grid it is resting upon is one inch. Without further ado...

Okay, it's been over a week since I sent out the cards, so I'm going to go on the assumption that all the cards have reached home ports safe and sound. So, time to post some pictures, so everyone can see how much fun we had. Also, post a brief description of how you made them, in case anyone wants to play in the future. Here's what my dinning room table looked like the day I divided up the cards and goody bags, and had the mailing envelopes ready to go. Now, let's see some cards, guys!
