Alligator River, North Carolina, 1698 The rythmic dip.....dip......dip of the oars was interrupted only by the creak of the oarlocks on the dinghy. Two long canvas bundles lay across the thwarts on the boat. Sitting in the stern, a single match flared giving a burst of light to an otherwise moonless night. The passenger looked at the oarsmen instantly and found only pale eyes staring back at him. The blind man continued the pull, rowing the craft further into the swamp. The man felt the bundles, 'Still warm' he thought to himself. He prodded the canvas until he felt a wet spot. Dragging his hand across the wraps of rope, he felt the spot slowly growing. He look…

This tale started its life over on the Pirates Magazine forums as part of a collaborative story in which I was/am participating. While writing it, however, it kind of took on a life of its own, and I am attempting to adapt it into its own, stand-alone narrative. Let me know what you think! HEART OF GOLD A Novel of High Seas Pyracy By Michael Sheridan Prologue Somewhere off the coast of Cuba... The squall had come out of nowhere. Hurricane winds and stinging rain, falling in sheets rather than drops, battered the hands near death as they struggled to take in sail and keep the ship head-on to the waves. Up they climbed, into the w…

'Hoy, good friends. Let me first start off with some small talk. I'm very familiar and experienced with all sorts of role playing, but I'm not quite known with this forum's policy, even though I've read the guidelines o'course So beggin' yer pardon in avance if I do anything wrong - I'll buy ye a drink if I do Now then, I'd like to start off with a type of roleplaying I happen te prefer most. The story The Aqua Vitae: for so long mankind has been intrigued by this mythical drink that would give whoever drinks it eternal life. But it was nothing more than a myth, a fairytale, a dream. Until fairly recently. A 'new' island appears to have rosen from the sea, and people…

chapter 1 - the stow away the life of a mouse is seldom a long, or happy one, unless you happen to be me. i live aboard a pirate ship, but i'm getting ahead of my story. my name is thomas and i was born a humble field mouse. i had the misfortune, or rather the good fortune, of stowing away in a barrel of apples. stowing away in that barrel would change my life forever. the barrel was bound for the sea witch, a fine pirate ship, and my soon to be new home. the barrel, and i, traveled by wagon to the port where the sea witch was docked. I nibbled a large hole in one apple, in that barrel, and i crawled inside that apple to rest. while i was resting, someone decided to r…

I am humbly submitting this novel in the hopes that you will enjoy it keeping in mind that I wrote this a year before I joined the Pub (back in 2005), or had attended any kind of pirate reenactment event. I based most of what I knew of large events on the SCA wars I had attended over the previous ten years. That being the case, you will see a few names that sound familiar. It is pure coincidence. If you want to make any comments about the story, pro or con, PM me. I can take it! Also, I will probably be doing edits as I post chapters, as I haven't re-read this in over a year, so I am sure I'll find errors. Feel free to point them out to me if you find any. THIS IS A …

Okay, I have been asked to start a PHSB joint thread, so here you go. To help the story along, post all of your questions, ideas, crewe members, ship's specs, etc, so we can keep everyone on the same page. Personally, I would like to see lists of crewe members on all the ships, just to make it easier to keep track of who is where, and a short description of the ship. I kept having people refer to the Rakehell's poop deck or quarterdeck, when she doesn't have one, so I think descriptions of the ships would be very helpful for everyone. Also, post here if you're going to be away from the story for awhile, so we can work around that. Oh, and if you want to whine about so…

Hey everyone, I haven't been online in a while, mostly because of finals and a brain tumor, but now i'm back. I've been working on a story that i hope to publish someday, Wrath of the Past. It's a story about pirates, but not the usual seafaring robbers we've come to love. It's a story about air pirates. I'm only on page 70-something right now, but I'm working on it as I type. For a quick synopsis: The world has been destroyed by nuclear warfare, and a dismal layer of cloud has settled on the war-ravaged lands, known as the Cloud Ocean. With the mountaintops as islands, people continue to live, trade, and sail on airships, some more lawful than others. When a pirate shi…

I have been enjoying reading all the works for the current stories, and I will probably look into joining the current PR storyline, but I have a fantasy/steam punk urge that I like in my writing style. With that in mind I noticed that there was no fantasy or steam punk based stories currently going on. More historical based fiction. If you would be interested in beginning a role-play adventure set during Victorian times, with a Steam punk flair, please post and let me know. If there is enough interest I will create a setting background and we can begin working on characters. I was not sure if this thread belong in the Skull and Quill section or back in Airship Pirates…

The Port Royal story ran for over two years, with a lot of great writing. However, many of the original players have, for various reasons, dropped out of the story, and it has been stagnant for many many months. I would like to kick-start it back to life. To do that, it needs new players to create new adventures. If any of you have ever wanted to hop into one of the on-going stories running on the Pub, now is your chance. PR is basically a land-based story(although ships came in and out regularly), and we've had people playing everything from smugglers, murderers, tavern keeps, actresses, pirates, pirate hunters, eccentric professors, and wealthy sugar plantation owners,…

COPYRIGHTS: All characters here and mentioned in future are copyrighted and are used with the express permission only of RANDOMHOUSE Publishing. Welcome mates to a litle tale of a fish out of water. This particular story will fall on yer ears in a few episodes, not quite sure how many as if yet but just how worth it ye find it to spend your time with this assortmant of ner'do wells will surely have a hand in it. Now, to be fair I have to admit that I m'self find this first chapter a bit (yawn) slow but it's been awhile since I put ink to paper so (chuckle) I promise the pace will quicken. Oh and feel free to comment if you like... it will give me the notion as …

Terra Incognita = An explanation and call for players Although there are many role playing stories on the Pub, this one will be different. An experiment, if you will. With input from PEW (we've been bouncing this idea back and forth since last November), we hope to try a new approach to story telling. The biggest difference is that this story will be illustrated. Now WAIT, before you throw up your hands and say "Well, that lets me out, I can't draw." Let me explain. By illustrated, we mean anything from scanned copyright free art, scanned letters (written by you or not), maps, rough sketches, even photos — with this caveat. The art doesn't have to be strictly PC correct…

This is a closed story by Honour Bright and Mad Jack Wolfe. ©2009-2015 by the respective authors. All Rights Reserved. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hampshire, Near Portsmouth - 1639 "Damn it, Jack, you're just being unreasonable now!" John Michael Wolfe was stuffing whatever belongings he could into a sea bag. His older brother, Royal Navy Lieutenant Thomas Wolfe, was standing over him, desperately trying to talk his younger brother out of becoming a merchant marine. "Define 'reasonable'," Jack shot back. Thomas looked at the ceiling in frustration. "Fine. 'Reasonable' would be you stopping this nonsense and going back to Ox…

Monday, 3rd "Oars! Iron Oars!" The blustering voice of the English privateer captain on deck jolted me out of my reveries. I had heard shooting a short time earlier; no doubt they had taken a prisoner who spoke Spanish. I blew gently on the wet ink in my journal and softly closed it. A young privateers burst in and said, "Hey, you better get topside. The Captain is looking for you!" "Iron Oars!" thundered the captain's voice again from above. I followed the young man to the main deck. Standing at the rail was a man in the rough brown cloth of a padre or monk. He stood quite erect, with each hand folded into the opposite sleeve of his robe. At his sandled feet lay a wo…

Spindrift, you are my wooden masted beauty. My eyes drink in this scene of tranquility. Wraithy whispers, Evoke such a feeling of haunting delights in My Soul! Down this Familiar Path, I must travel alone. My memoirs were written down on the parchment that was left to wither. Beaten by times wrath, my mind finds comfort in an old mariners tale. Dead Rose A Pirate's Romance Intro The story Dead Rose is a mixture of all kinds of pirate stories I read, with different names and a personal twist. Though my inspiration came from different stories, I still made the story myself. Please, do NOT copy it and claim it as yours. Yes, the main character is the very same person as my account. The story is much older then the account, and I made the account to honour the character. Some of the places or towns are also made up by me, and don't really excist. The reason why I made them up, and not just used real towns, you can read at my interests. Enjoy the story and respond, if you like! (The story begins in a new post, wi…

The door bursts open and is filled with the sudden silhouetto of a man. A brief strain of Spanish dance music swirls in the stale, fetid air, and his form is illuminated by a burst of thunderbolts and lightning. He steps into the Pub, slams the door behind him, spits the damp, macerated remains of a cigarillo on the floor, takes a rasping breath, and speaks, in a thick accent -- Spanish, but tainted by long years cruising the ports and byways of the Main. "Jou do not know who I aim. But I know who jou are. I haive been seerching for you seence I was only seex years old, but I would know jou by sight anywhere. I recognize jou by the deformities jou carry. Jou, wit' …

This thread is where those folks, participating in the serious role playing thread..Port Royal Jamica , can ventur to post any questions regarding the historical background and or any technical questions regarding role playing. Why a second/joint thread? So as to avoid constantly disrupting the original story line of the role playing thread by going in and out of character.... Hope this helps ! JH Sterling

Greetings one and all! OOC - This is a chance for anyone wishing to develop a historically driven character and see where that role takes them. If you aren't into roleplaying and simply want to pick someone up or talk in modern terms, stay out. In turn, we won't allow anyone to post your life's story here or make fun of you. Simple enough for you wouldn't exist yet. We humbly request that the moderator, Dear Rumba, monitor this to ensure that we keep to the rules. SCENARIO The years are anywhere between 1660 and 1730 in Port Royal, Jamaica. This is the two primes of Port Royal, pre-earthquake (1650 to 1692 - the age of the Buccaneers) and post earthquake (1692 to 17…

I've found a secret door in Ray's Pub. It leads to a grand spacious area beneath the regular Pub. T' keep the ladies from sparrin' elsewhere, I've created the mud room. This room is heated folks, so there be no effects from the weather. There are only two rules: 1) No tossing the barmaid int' the mud! We gotta have someone available t' keep bringin' the drinks; 2) Mud & yer tongue is yer weapon of choice 'ere. There's a table by the door t' place yer blades and pistols. (Don't want any of our fair lasses "accidentally" run through. Ladies, there are plenty o' mud pits available. You can call someone out from another thread and tell 'em t' meet ye here fer b…
