I seem to be coming across a lot of opportunities to travel lately and I usually take my good pal and traveling companion Baby Lion with me to chronicle the things I see. Baby Lion and I were in Honduras in June. I took lots of pictures of him (like any proud father) and decided to continue to chronicle his trips. You can read about Baby Lion's latest adventures in Honduras on this web page. (It is sort of written for Grace, but adults may enjoy it as well. ) On a more serious note, it just so happened that I was there the weekend that the military threw their president out of the country. It was quite interesting; you can read some of my thoughts on what happened on …

ahoy all, i have just returned from tangier island located in the middle of the chesapeake. the original plan was to row the explorer from the museum in Deltaville Va. to the island to commemorate john smith's arrival 400 years later. (17 miles) here is the venture. arrived at the docks very early thursday morn with my beloved grace to head off on what was described in the billing as a manly-man weekend where only meat would be eaten and showers frowned upon. why grace wanted in i have no idea, but this played out favorably later. The idea was to row/sail to the island, upon seeing the water flat, hazy and narry a ripple of wind, we opted to tow- we have learned somethi…

On Oct 17...just a couple days from now...I'll be taking ship on a cruise to the Bahamas. Despite my Pyraticallness (now Officially a word), I've never been on the ocean before. (Been *over* it, flying to Germany and back). The thing that has me most worried isn't seasickness (I been on Lake Erie in a bit of a chop, and wasn't bothered at all), its getting thru customs. Fie on them lubbers! Anyway, I'll be on the Carnival Pride, with an official shore excursion lined up for Epcot during the Port Canaveral port of call (so's I can go to the Food and Wine Festival), and Nassau I'm a-doin' on me own...hitting the Pirates museum, seeing the site of the 1695 Old Fort Nass…

No pirate's visit to San Francisco is complete without a visit to 826 Valencia. Don't let the simple name fool you, this store is 100% pirate! 826 Valencia was started by the author of a best-selling book that wanted to give something back to his community. So with the proceeds from his book, he started a program that offers free writing workshops, seminars, tutoring and homework help, SAT coaching, classes on how to make greeting cards and even on how to write letters to the colleges you want to attend. All of this is offered to the children of San Francisco at no charge. What funds these programs is the pirate store that is in the streetfront of the building at 826…

Ahoy! As we head east and south, we've been seekin' out experienced riggers, sailors, topmen, for the next couple 'o legs. NY state canal system, Lake Champlain, and the ICW south....We have to step and unstep the entire rig many times,so...besides the living historian approach, if you are experienced, or able to comprehend serious rigging challenges along with mind-numbing bull-work, then give a shout, eh? Currently seeking two .

If I've already addressed this topic on this board, I apologize -- however, it's been on the back of my mind to post a topic for discussion about this for SO LONG that I honestly can't remember at this point if I actually POSTED it at some point or not. (So I suppose it goes without saying that, even if I did post it, I don't remember what anyone said about it. *grins*) I am applying for -- considering applying for, I guess I should say, though it's definitely SERIOUSLY considering -- a study program that involves, at the end of the term, four and a half weeks at sea on a brignatine (plenty of port stops, yes; but still, four weeks). Here's the thing (one thing, anyway)…

Ahoy mates! Being inspired by Odorless Eye's and Blackjohn's talk of home pirate decor, I am wondering if any of you might have any photos, drawings, or any other type depictions of a pirate tavern from the 17th or 18th century, either real or fictional? (Mainly the exterior). The reason is, I am expanding and remodeling my workshop behind my home, and would like to design it to resemble a proper establishment of the afore mentioned type. The drawback, though, is it needs to be primarily wood, as I have little or no masonry skills. I do have one historical building I am using as a visual reference, the famous Pirate's House restaurant in Savannah, which actually used to…

Ahoy, my bullies! My apologies, I was gone on a two-day cruise on the Lady Washington, which (if you don't already know) played the Interceptor in POTC 1. If ye be lookin' fer a true piratical experience, look into bookin' a passage or "battle sail". Out of all the tall ship's I've seen, she is by far the most beautiful. The cruise was a lot of fun. When my friend and I mentioned that we were Sea Scouts, the steward immediately press-ganged us into the crew. We set sail from Antioch, in the delta, and cruised west through San Pablo Bay to Tiberon Penninsula, where we anchored for the night. I was lucky enough to get put on the midnight watch, which meant I had to get up …

Port Royal has been the benefactor of some great sprucing up, namely, all the streets are now signed with their names and the 16 historical points of interest are graced with interpretive signs. More soon. Just returned. The coolest thing was my mate, Diosa, managed a trip to Rackham Cay where she stood in the same place as Calico Jack as he swung in the wind. We have video of his view at death. She also went to Gun Cay and found remnants of the small fort that was there in about three feet of water. Very fun trip as always!!! -- Hurricane

The organizers of PyrateCon 2008 are in New Orleans for a few days getting all the groundwork laid for what will be an incredible experience for everyone. The group is meeting not only with event, hotel, and vendor folks but have an appointment with the Mayor of New Orleans to talk about his involvement with the Con!!! Updates will be printed in The Pyrates Way magazine in every issue and expect to see marketing materials online and in your mailbox about the PyrateCon. The Pyrates Way is a major supporter and sponsor of PyrateCon 2008. With the fiasco that was PyrateCon2007 (read about that in the Summer Pyrates Way magazine), the new organizers of PyrateCon 2008 have t…

I will in the UK at the end of the month visiting London and several other cities for a couple of weeks. The greatest part of the time will be in the city of London. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to visit relating to pirates or piracy. We will be seeing all the usual museums and tourist sights so I was looking for some out of the way shops, exhibits, or attractions that would be of interest. I see that there's a Captain Kidd exhibit at the London Museum Docklands when we'll be there, any other things of this sort going on? How about places to purchase period correct replicas and items? Any ideas???

I was looking up Mystic Seaport the other day. I got to wondering if any of you ever went there? How was the whole experience? From what is says it look like the perfect museum. We have been talking about what we would like to see in a pirate fair. This is what I mostly had in mind, just add sailors/pirates. Of course those sailors/pirates would have to know what they were all about. Just wondering what the rest of you all think?

you've all heard the stories, and i'm sure you've noticed the check box next to the word "Amputations" on your employment forms. But how many of us (you) have had serious injuries whilst upon the waters? it get's talked up alot in the galley/coffee room/shipping crate but the worst I've ever seen(as it happened) or experienced is perhaps being belted with a stray spar here and there. So tell us your tales of woe, anything greater than a broken finger will do.

My best friend and I are throwing around the idea of a road trip sometime this winter. We'd like to go somewhere in Florida. She's been before (but not since she was 13) and I've never been further south than Virginia. Where would you good pirates recommend that two 26 year olds wouldn't be gett'n themselves killed? I want to go somewhere near the beach with a fun nightlife.

This year my 16 foot Shearwater, "Key Lime" was part of the Beaufort Pirate Invasion. We rowed upon the Town using great stealth and demanded surrender! We were met with Jests and Jeers. So I brandished my 50 cal. Pistol to fire a warning shot but it misfired! I then brandished my 38 cal. Cloak Pistol which did fire but did not seem to frighten the Town any. They returned fire with one of their Cannon at which we beat an hasty reatreat! As we cleared the point where the Town could no longer see us the joke was on longer on us for here was our Bretheren in Arms the Pirate Fleet we had sailed out to represent in a Parlay! A suit for surrender. Their answer was clear, face…
