I was just wondering, for you folk who know England better than me (ie anyone who's been there or knows a bit about it), what interesting 'must see' nautical sites are there in England? I'm planning a trip out there in March, and have pegged some of the obvious ones, such as the National Maritime Museum, the HMS Victory, Tower of London, and the Cutty Sark. I'm only going to be there a week, and am probably going to stick around London and Portsmouth for most of the time, with the slim possibility of headin' out to Southern Scotland to see a friend. As I've never been there I don't really know much of what to see. Are there any major things I'm missing relating to pyr…

I'm driving on I-95N in Providence, R.I, and to the right of me I see this. The Continental Sloop Providence resting on boat stands in Conley's Wharf...so I had to get a closer look. This is a revolutionary war era vessel (in this case, a replica) but it bears an uncanny resemblance to this picture in one of my pirate books. Not much seems to have changed, however anyone if you have some info, please do tell.

I am active on another board and someone there assumed I knew about a place called the HMS Bounty in L.A. - a bar. Has anyone heard of it, is it worth bothering with and where is it located?

Hi. It's been awhile since I have posted here and I am quite surprised to see the positive changes to the site. Of course I have to learn how to use it but that's OK. Never too old to learn. Anyway, I am posting information about a very special event taking place on the HMS Surprise in San Diego, California, on July 23rd. This will benefit Marty Klebba's charity, Coalition for Dwarf Advocacy(Coalition for Dwarf Advocacy/) Marty's site Information on event: We have some very nice auction items, some from the Pirates of the Caribbean Movie crew, plus several pirate vendors. There will be a cash bar, pirate music,an indie film "iPhone of the Caribbean", and of cours…

I'm currently in Hong Kong and I spent a day at the famous Stanley market on HK island. I made it a point to check out the Maritime Museum after seeing it mentioned in Pirates Magazine. Great small FREE museum! Give it a look see if you are in the area!

Where the women are oh so fine, and the fruit is sitting around in piles, awaiting your hungry desire. And the water is warm... I was sitting in a deck chair once, and I heard a scampering amidst the trees. Monkeys! I thought. How I do enjoy watching those little greedy humans. I eagerly awaited the sighting. And then I saw.... a squirrel how not interesting. Share your stories of this magical country...

Well for all of you that know me I got an early birthday present. I bought myself a 14' O'Day Javelin. I brought it home this morning and I turned around and headed out for family stuff. Now when I got back I cleaned it up and tomorrow I hope to set it up and see how it all goes together.

I am leaving for Australia July 1 and the response I typically get when I tell people this is, "I've always wanted to go there!" or "I plan to go to Australia some day." It would seem there're places like Australia that a lot of people would like to go. Here's some that have been on my short list for quite awhile: -Scotland -Serengeti -Madagascar -Brazil -South Pacific Islands Nearly all of these places are the results of my readings - particularly from books by Gregory McDonald. (I found Key West through his writings.) What's on your short list?

Does anyone here have any insight for travel in Ireland. I am thinking of flying into Heathrow and renting a car for a couple of weeks to make way through northern England and all of Ireland. I want to see castles and pubs, but not really into battlefields. Have any of you been there or planning a trip there? Let's share notes~

Mr. Das and I just had dinner at a new restaurant in south Jersey called the Jersey Sailor. It's located in Historic Cold Spring Village and about 5 minutes from Cape May, 10 from Wildwood, and 45 min. to an hour from Atlantic City. There are a few folks working at the restaurant with Ren Faire experience, and they put on a pirate show after dinner for those interested in a little swordplay. I laughed me arse off during the show - they did a great job!! Anyone interested in checking the place out can go to http://www.jerseysailor.com We enjoyed ourselves very much, but next time we will dress the part, and take others along who would enjoy interacting with the res…

Like many, I dream of one day owning my own boat. With my current mortgage and car payment, the cold truth is that I may never be able to afford my own boat. So, the thought occurs to me, if I can't own one, how about work on one? The big question is, where would I even begin looking for such a job? The Washington Post employment section seems to have passed over the categories of "boat jobs" or "jobs on the water".

Has anyone ever taken the Jolly Roger cruise in Barbados or Antigua? I didn't think much about it until I saw the plank walking. I'm planning a trip to the Caribbean now! Speaking of Caribbean... a few years ago the family and I were on a cruise in the Bahamas an we visited the Pirate Museum in Nassau. Well worth the visit! Entertaining as well as educational.
