Hi everyone, Just thought I'd mention that I've lived in Hawai'i for a while now, and wanted to open the topic for discussion. If you have any questions about the place, moving here, or just vacationing, let me know! The islands are still full of pirates (the real kind!). It's a beautiful place, but one with a unique culture that it's best to be somewhat familiar with before you go. So- any questions?

Ifn any o' ye are goin' ter be in the neighborhood o' Rhode Island this Saturday mornin, there be somethin' goin on in Jamestown wot I think I should alert ye to. There's this race, and the rules are that ye have 2 hours te build yer vessel outta non marine materials on the town beach, then launch it and sail it on a downwind course. Tis hysterical! THere even be a prize fer worst example o' naval architecture. While it don't necessarily be piratical, tis all abou' creativity, so's ye can make it as piratical as ye want....

I remeber when I was a wee little pirate (around the age of 8 or 9) my pirates rented a cabin in Cape Cod and when we went in town, there was this tour called "Pirate Cruise" or something like that. It was a fake sailboat, a motorboat with a sail boat body, but the sweet thing is that they had a sister company that would take kids out as the British navy. And so half way through the journey, the captain would said man the guns and we would fire upon the ship, now not with real guns but with Super Soaker cannons. It was super fun time, so i was wondering if anyone has been to Cape Cod in the last 8 years and if this company was still running. Becuase it was part of my chil…

I don't know if this is old news, especially to those out on the west coast, but after the Irving Johnson ran agound, I began thinking of that fine little schooner Larinda again. In tracking down her wherabouts (she was refloated and sold at auction), I came across some interesting info at www.larinda.com. It appears that the Hawaiian Chieftain will be renamed the Spirit of Larinda and sail on in loving hands. They plan on operating their program again by May of this year. Coastie

Just makin' a call to all out there about a bit o' trouble I be in. I be new 'round this port, an' I suppose not everyone will know who I am, but I thought it ought to be mentioned what the goings on are here. I'll find myself without without a place to drop anchor for some time. The internet will be unreliable for me, so it's without an idea of when I'll be back that I find myself. If it weren't for the trouble, I'd probably visit more often and talk much more. I be lookin' forward to gettin' to know you all better, whenever that may be.

I am active on another board and someone there assumed I knew about a place called the HMS Bounty in L.A. - a bar. Has anyone heard of it, is it worth bothering with and where is it located?

We just got back from a short vacation in St. Augustine, FL. Mates, what a wonderful place it is! We live in New Orleans, and it reminded us of the French Quarter, without a modern city around it! There's the Fort; the Weapons Museum; ships of various types offering tours of various types, inclding a Pirates Cruise! There are several Haunted tours; the Spanish Village, where you can see living history interpreters doing leather work, blacksmithing, candlemaking, etc. We even saw manatees, and dolphins, come right in to port. On Fridays and Saturdays a group called the Bilge Rats sings sea shanteys at the Spanish Taverm. Unfortunately, we had to catch an earlier plane…

If I lived closer, or in any way in hell, had the money to fly down for the day, I'd do this. But for those of you luckier than me, here ya go. The lab exploring the artifacts raised from the site assumed (but not yet proven) to be the remains of Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge will be opening its doors to the public for the day on Saturday, October 22, 2005. Here's the link for more information: http://www.qaronline.org/QARlabDay.htm

We are really lucky being able to have a business that allows us to live on a boat, dabble in pirate lore while meeting great people... though sadly we seldom get folks down here who are interested in things Pyratical! Well except for the rum drinking... In case there are any folk who would be interested in charters with a pirate theme or just want to use a bit of pirate research as an excuse for a week in paradise on the waters where it all happened we'd be happy to help! You just can't beat being behind an oar! I wish I had more pics out on the water, but... I was kinda busy rowing! It was a really windy day. I'm surprised we were even able to make any headway against the wind. But we had 12 people on the oars, so we were able to do well enough.

As the 2nd Annual Nishna River Renaissance Faire approacheth, I, as the vendor coordinator, am disappointed in that I have no PYRATE MERCHANTS. I can't vend at this faire, because I've been sucked into the administration end of things. All things pyratical are welcome, and most especially WEAPONS, ARRRR  Hear my call, all ye pirates of the prairies! Nishna is held in Avoca, IA (40 miles east of Omaha) on the first weekend in October. We have a definite pyrate theme building this year, so ye'll feel at home.

A few of us regulars from MDRF "warm up" at NYRF opening weekend. My wife, my daughter and I will be there Opening Day in our Pyrate best (my daughter has a beautiful new plumb-coloured pyrate outfit). I'd love to meet some folks from Pyracy Pub and make new friends. Look for us, I'll have m'green pyrate coat on and my Pyrates Way hook on m'hand.

email me at: steve@pyratesway.com with "Gimme $50" in the subject line and I'll give you the secret information that might just win you $50 CASH, a free subscription to The Pyrates Way, and to have one special photo from pyratecon printed in the Summer Pyrates Way. It's sneaky and fun. . . thereby fulfilling 2 out of 3 prerequisites for a pyrate activity (if you spend the $50 on rum, you've got all 3 out of 3). Send me a note, mates!

Anybody ever seen the Maritime Pirates of Greenport Long Island, NY in action? On their site they talk about having a Pirate Museum in Greenport, but unfortunately they haven't updated their site. Has anybody seen any of their performance work, or been to the museum??
