In the chat room Sunday night, Robin stated there would be a faire at Estrella Park, Arizona on February 11-16. Said to do a search and it would come up. Well, it didn't. Anyone have information on this. Much appreciated.

--2024 EVENT SCENARIO-- It is early 1718. For the last two years the ramshackle and ruined port of Nassau Town on New Providence island has been home, not only to the crew of the Scavenger, but to the hundreds of other pirates that make up the Flying Gang. Nassau had been barely populated since the raids during the war more than a decade prior, that is until the treaty was signed. At first the flow of new arrivals was slow. Out of work sailors here, the occasional escaped indentured servants there, but after the hurricane in 1715, the influx of Spanish gold, and with it the appeal of easy riches the trickle had grown to a deluge. When the Spanish returned and chased th…

This year's Cedarburg Winter Festival will be a pirate themed event. They have contacted us here at the Port Washington Pirate Festival and asked for help in securing some pirates for the weekend. While we have enough volunteers at this point, this is an invitation for those of you interested to come in your garb and see some old friends. The festival is free to enter. The event takes place February 9-10 in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. It is about 12 miles north of Milwaukee, and just south of Port Washington for those of you who have been to our event. We're not running the event in any form, just working with them as it helps to promote our event in June. I thought I woul…

his is your chance to make your voice heard. At 6:30, the Seattle Parks Dept is having a meeting regarding the S. Lake Union Park. For those that don't already know, this is where the schooner Wawona is docked. The Parks Department would like to have all the ships and shipwright buildings gone, in favour of a sterile, concrete park, with non-native plantings, a model boat pond, and oh yes, some signal flags to give it a maritime feel. You notice from this description that there is no place for the Wawona at this new park. The plan that the maritime heritage groups have come up with would turn the area into a 19th century living history park, with the ongoing restoration …

This fall, the theme for the Kansas City Renaissance Festival is PIRATES! The themes for each weekend have yet to be determined and the casting call is out. Anyone interested in participating or visiting can find the necessary information at: http://www.kcrenfest.com/ Jim Stamberger is the entertainment director and as I understand it he is difficult to work with. My own opinion (knowing the man only slightly) is that he is a director, meaning he can be difficult and doesn't always see eye to eye with the talent. My wife and I run the Sheepskin Shoppe there, so I don't have the time to be in the cast. We've done this show for ten years, so if anyone has any questions, fe…

Here's an interesting article on the tall ship problems for Tacoma. Guess we'd better all hold our breath... -- Hurricane It’s time to kill the Tall Ships Festival DAN VOELPEL; THE NEWS TRIBUNE Last updated: January 28th, 2005 08:50 AM Should Tacoma pull the plug on the 2005 Tall Ships Festival? Somebody needs to ask the question. Before it’s too late. Before the planned summer parade of sailing ships from around the world breaks the city’s bank account. Before Tacoma falls flat on its new civic face. Despite genuine enthusiasm and good intentions from a stalwart team of local nonprofit organizers, genuine enthusiasm and good intentions remain the event’s most sign…

I just got back from the Winter Market put on by Dave Mantz. I had a good time. Not too many people came out this year but it was still fun. I got a chance to touch base with the lovely people from Reconstructing History and a few fellow sword makers. That was fun. There were plenty of beautiful fire arms. I love the engraved muskets. I didn’t have much time to browse but I did get a chance to catch up with a lot of people. This is the last year that they will be having the event in that location and maybe ever. It all depends on if another place is available during that part of the year. I talked to Dave quite a bit about another he wants to put on in august and is look…

Hi Everyone! Here is an event for those who want to see an assortment of Maritime items and events! 2008 Chicago Maritime Festival - Schedule of Events Not to mention our very own...Gerard Heidgerken - aka Bilgemunky! Here is his write up! Piratecore: Sea Chanties in the 21st Century with Gerard Heidgerken As a musical genre, the sea chantey has gone largely unchanged since the age of sail. But where most maritime artists have chosen to embrace and preserve the rich heritage of this music, others have opted to take their fascination with the sea into surprising new directions. This session will explore the development and current state of Piratecore, a relatively yo…

For those flying into Chicago for RF 7 (I think it's 7) Feb 4-7 2010, Southwest Airlines has announced a 72 hour sale, going thru sometime this Friday (10/30/09), with fares as low as $25 one way. I can fly round trip from Minneapolis to Chicago for $50, so I am SO THERE! A Caveat - Southwest flies into Midway airport, which is a hell of a long ways from the Westin Chicago North Shore, where the convention will be held, so there will be some transportation costs involved. Maybe if enough of us arrived at Midway at around the same time, we could rent a van and car pool to the hotel?
