Well after the waistcoat that I just finished I found myself with extra wool left over. So I decided last night to whip up and a pair of breeches. At the request of Mr. Cross I'll post some pictures of said breeches. Still a work in progress I need to cut and finish the bottoms and sew all the buttonholes on. So enjoy!

As a follow up to the lace pillow I wanted to show off a completed piece from Brig. I attached it to the neckline of one of her shifts. Turned out fantastic!

Well Brig has put both feet into the craziness of bobbin lace. So I decided to make her a nice pillow that could be used at events and still be period. (at least period looking) First real woodworking I've done for reenactments. (and I'm not a carpenter) Take a look.

Okay, so I have begun making a bodiced gown for Kate (me loverlly wif)... There are a ton of good images out there (the many fashion plates that are posted and re-posted are likely the best source), but there are some great paintings and other sources as well. I've looked through the pub and not found a thread dedicated to this garment yet, so I thought I would start one. I'll post pictures as I get things done, so far I have only drafted a pattern, and cut out the interlining layers (still not 100% sure which fabric from the stash I will be using for the outer layer, although I am leaning towards a light "sea-foam" green. Anyways, hope this thread will flourish with i…

this is the back of a jacket that i found.. note the sleeves/ cuffs ... shall attach a voluminous skirt to inner jacket back, rounding to the front yet wont close completely--will have to wear a front skirt that shall be contrast-- perhaps the light punkle ( cross between pink and purple) that is already shown with the back pic of this gown shall become the under skirts the front i shall make a stomacher-- and attach the front to it.... may have to cut the neck to hang a bit lowernd farther on the shoulders.... what do yah all think? ( yah it is cheating--but it is FAST and if you think the lines are close enough, well that means i can make a pattern off of i…

ok............ Micheal and Captain Sterling....{and anyone who has experience or a good educated guess, having seen garments up[ close} a few questions--- have begun a stays in pink linen. now......... as to adding the sleeves and arm scythe measurements and cutting the fabric for sleeves...... from looking at all the photos posted, would it be your opinion that, it comes OFF the shoulder at a farther reaching /lower angle than a set of stays that has the strap being tied together? or could i just pick one of the garments posted and imitate--i am thinking the mauve silk stays sleeve..... am i correct in my thinking that, i simply add sleeves to a set of …

I recently made a pair of breeches. No pattern, and it shows! :) Have only worn them once, tucked into (gasp) bucket boots (not a reenactment occasion - fantasy all the way), so all I did to the bottom of the legs was a running stich to keep the linen from unraveling. Now I want to do the legs bottoms right. What would be the period correct way to terminate the legs (hem, button, tie, etc?), for breeches that should (as I understand it) be tucked into the tops of stockings? TIA!

I am on a hunt for pine tar for pitching mugs, cups, tankards, pitchers, and all sorts of Jacks. I realize that Jas. Townsend has "Brewers Pitch", I have used it. Unfortunately what they have is yellow in colour, not dark brown or black, and it is brittle. If you drop you jack it will crack! Does anyone know here I can find the dark pitch? Capt Black

So in a different thread I talk about turing a Pop Up tent trailer into a Pirate theme pop up tent trailer. I was thinking about making a small cannon to have some fun with. But not a Black powder type. My friend suggest (my friend being a seattle area theater rigger, fire performer and a pyrotechnicnition) I make a Calcium Carbonate cannon, I found some instruction on the old interwebs The link... Anyone have any experience in this type of cannon. I would make it out of PVC and wood. Thoughts?

I am looking for examples and replicas of the Burgundian Spanish Cross that i can make or use as a badge for example for on a cartridge pouch. Until now I have nothing that could be used for such. Is there anyone who can point me to such an artefact or maybe even a reproduction? Either brass brons or tin would be fine with me. I can also maybe have someone cast these for me but even then I do need an example... Thanks!

I have a few original Late 17th and Early 18th pewter/brass buttons. They are really tiny compared to what we "think" button size should be. It seems to me that later buttons (rev and F&I period) buttons are larger, but since that is what most suttlers are carrying, that is what pirate re-enactors are wearing. I know that there are "ranges" of buttons size, but what would the most common size for sailors? Any takers? Most of mine range from about 1/2 inch to about 5/8ths inch. GoF

I've just been reading a fascinating book about Jonathan Wild, self styled "Thief-taker General" in the early 18th century. I suspect there may be a few more threads arising once I've finished it. Anyway, there's a reference to " Mr Wild, in his Callimancoe Night-gown". The author of the book says that callimanco is "a woollen material", does anyone else know any more about it?

I was wondering, for those that do a lot of camping at the events, do you have or use anything like the boy scout patrol boxes? Google search that for pictures... I was thinking that one could be "hidden" in something looking like a barrel or a sea chest. Just something that crossed my mind.

Well, first don't get excited, this isn't reenactor stuff, nor is it real flame. I saw the broadway show Mamma Mia in New York City a while back, and at some point the entire cast was holding these candles, which were really LED candles, not flame. The effect, from a distance, was mind-boggling. They look like real flickering flame, and not the cheapo bulbs with the alternating filament. I think the application for these things is unlimited, such as holiday time (christmas trees, windows), backyard luau, or just general atmosphere lighting. i am planning on getting some for halloween. For those who want the flames without the fuss, wax, and hazards, just k…
