pirates versus cowboys 1 2 3 4

there was a debate on another forum about which are cooler, pirates or cowboys... pirates were winning but I still had to chime in: Why roam the deserts and plains when you can sail the ocean! Rum is much tastier than whiskey. Ponytails and bare feet beat stetsons and boots. Port Royal a damn site more exotic than Carson City. Which would you rather fire - a cannon or a pistol? ...anybody got any more?

Happy Birthday my dearest love. We have had so many amazing years together and I'm looking forward to 5 times as many more. You are the wind in my sails. Thank you for your constant encouragement and support, and for always making me laugh. Thank you for liking all the things that I like, and for not pretending to be anything you aren't. I'm so very happy to continue sailing this ship with you! All my love and admiration, Maeve O'Treasaigh

Gas is almost $4 a gallon. What's the per-gallon breaking point cost that will preclude you from going to a pirate festival or event? Will you be keeping close to home if gas goes to $7 a gallon? Will you not go at all if it's over $10 a gallon?

Yes, I know: anything (and anyone) they wanted to! But seriously, mates: during the Golden Age (I use the term in a broad sense: 1680 - 1730), did briar pipes exist? I know they had clay ones; reed-stemmed clay pipes came in around 1750, if I recall correctly. Cigarettes didn't exist in this era. (Cigarettes are nasty, and BORING, anyway!) How about cigars? Does anyone have any evidence of pirates smoking "stronger stuff"? Capt. William

hello. new guy here, i have been wanting to do a pirate costume for awhile, finally got around to it. i am basing my look on the first mates from the POTC but being careful about buying things to make it as historically accurate as possible. a lot of the things in those movie are not accurate. so stylized accurate??? i mainly go to sci-fi conventions. and love doing historically costumes to give the trekkies a hard time. but i am member of the 501st legion a starwars costume group. even at these cons, most pirates you see are captains so that is why i am making a first mate. got my slops and my buckle shoes.......and everything else but still waiting on a few items t…

So ya be wanting to know just how the ranking at Pyracy Pub works and what ship duties need to be done ta rise in rank. Well basically, all one has to do is post messages to the forums. The ranking system be a sort of message post counter, the more messages a shipmate posts the higher up in rank said shipmate climbs. Here be the secret formula for figuring out such things, liberated from a previous message posted by the Commodore, BloodyBuckets and reposted here. Bilge Rat 0 posts Deck Swabber 20 posts Deck Hand 50 posts Ship's Master 100 posts First Mate 200 posts Plunderer 300 posts Pyrate Captain 500 posts Notorious Pyrate 750 posts Dr…

It's time for the Secret Gift Exchange! Those of you who've been around know we've coordinated this event for more than five years with a reasonable amount of success and a few of us/you were looking forward to it again this year. If you're not looking forward to it, you can move along, or you can blame your compatriots who are. Or you can just blame me, I like this event. We've had a lot of changes here in the last few months, over the last couple of years we've seen a substantial drop off in Pub usage. Many of us who are still here, have been here for years; as we go through our lives our time in the Pub waxes and wanes. I'm sure you'll all agree that we're thankful …

Ahoy all ye scalliwags.....The Capt. wants to know what would you take with you if...... you went back then ( say around 1650 thru 1750 ) and you are of course from now....... And please leave out phone. I mean, who are you going to call if you have the only phone? The idea is to think of something to take back with you that you think would be of great use. Not something that would get you branded as a witch. Also, remember, that whatever it is you take, you have the only one For me, it has to be... asprin. I mean, yeah air conditioning would be great, but, no electric. High powered rifles and modern weapons are good, but, no modern ammo to use... and visa versa....…

Where be me grog?!": Well, since it seems I'm not doing anythin' here til I get me drink...I be Mad Capn Bob, the Official Pyrate of Cuyahoga Falls Library, currently livin'...marooned, more like...in Akron OH. If it be that any of you lubbers readin' this be residing in NE Ohio, fire me a shot cross me bows (all right, drop me an email) I work in a library, which I suppose makes me a librarian (that be just me cover), and an educator (what, *me*?!). So driving home this evening I was rear ended... But I am perfectly fine and unhurt... But I was hit hard enough to rotate my vehicle 180 degrees so I ended up facing the vehicle that just hit me. I was stopped on the freeway as traffic had backed up trying to get off on an exit. The girl that hit me claims she swerved to miss a vehicle that cut her off in the next lane and hit me at close to freeway speeds... She had hit her breaks, but I only heard a half of second of squeeling tires before I was hit, so she probably didn't get slowed down much by her breaks before impact. As a precaution the wife took me to the Chiropractic centre where she used to work (and her mom …

The amount of questions I have for all of ye rivals the amount of rules in "The Code". That being said the best place to start is at the beginning. Who are ye? And What do you do? I've been looking over the forums for a few days and have learned quite a bit however I'd like to just come out and ask. Are ye, the members of this forum, mostly re-enactors? If you are, how did you get into it? How did you come up with your pirate name? I see there are a few artisans here. Do you sell your goods online or at shows? I've noticed that this forum seems spread out across the US. How does one find a crew or even start their own? Are you focused on being historically ac…
