As all the ADMIN and MODS are aware I wanted the rest of you to know as well, I am scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday the 17th of this month to remove the tumors that cause me to be severely anemic. It's been a long time coming and im eager to be well again and drive everyone nuts. I will be in Round Rock hospital for a couple of days and I will have someone post room numbers and such when Im in a room. Thank you for all the prayers and support, sometimes that kept me going when I felt I could not on my own. Blessings to all, Syren

The little son of a friend of mine just lost two fingertips at the first knuckle from one hand in an accident. His hand was caught in a bicycle chain. I'm sending out a little "treasure" to him from the pirates. I need quick ideas for fun things to do. I'm going to put his message in a bottle, include a little bag full of treasure coins, I'll try to locate a chest of somesort if I can find something, and the main present is a baseball cap with a skull and crossbones on it that I just got for him. I need quick ideas of extra pirate-like treasures, things like eyepatches or ??? to include. Fire away gang! I need ideas quick!!

Greetings to all, my name is Abdikarim. However, my friends call me "Dik" (pronounced "Deek"). I am what you call a "true businessman" who unfortunately resides in a poverty stricken area in a small town called Merka a couple hundred kilometers from Somalia. I try to assist my townspeople financially in anyway I can. So, I guess I have been named the modern day "Robin Hood" of my land. I currently own several yachts. My newest addition is a 140' foot yacht called the "Dubbe" and I am in need of some crew members to man the Dubbe and assist me with my business dealings. Unfortunately, some of my original crew had very poor business skills and were arrested for some u…

So there's been an ongoing discussion about each of our forum names, but how about everyone's avatars? Some are pretty interesting - who made their own, who stole them (no shame in that, we're all pirates here)? Is there a link where we can see them up-close? My own was actually made by my brother, back in a day when I went by "spydermunky" online. Since switching my name, I added the red pirate hat and earring, and boom! Instant avatar.

...coming from a discussion I had with somebody who wanted to join my site and gave up. And she said she was a reenactor too (not sure if in present or only in the past). But my question is ...general: It is a matter of fact already, ie of general knowledge, that women pirates or sailors had been few in history. The most of them were disguised as boys, and sooner or later discovered (see Lovely Polly's ballad, "The handsome cabin boy", "The ballad of Willie Taylor", etc.). But even so they weren't many. How then are so many women sailors reenactors? Because they want to keep historical accuracy, usually... And how then I get so many requests for female pirates for my R…

I just joined a pirate group and I'm doing my first Faire next weekend. Are there any websites, books, etc. that teach you some basic phrases so that I can talk like a pirate? Cheers, Barbados Sam

The best part of any good conversation with friends and fellow pirates, and friends who ARE fellow pirates, and pirate friends who aren't fellows at all, is the moment when you first divide from the topic at hand to those tangents that lead one or many willy nilly down every road of thought and every segue of distraction to places both funny, revealing, tragic and to uncomfortable pauses only filled with observation about uncomfortable pauses. Thus is life and good conversation. We don't see enough of it here. Not like we once did.

Most everything you seem to see regarding (most being over 80%) weapons or at least what I have noticed are flintlock whether they are english or french the primary difference being doglock. However, considering that most of the new world was colonized by Spain I would think the Spanish Miquelet lock would be a little bit more prevelant. Do you supose it is due to the fact that being a british colony that is what we naturally associate with? I wonder honestly if you were a pirate what percantage of the arms aboard as most of them would of been captured would of truly been flintlocks? Logically I would assume that most of the settlements would be Spanish with most of t…

So now the question is did you meet your significant other before or after or at a Pirate festival? Or is what happens at sea stay at sea?

I had a long discussion last night with my companion and it's opened my eyes to what I wasn't seeing. Some of us here at the Pub play our parts as the characters in which we wish to be percieved - regardless of the reality of our real lives. I do it to a certian degree, but I can never forget my real life, and my problem seems to be forgetting that others do it to forget their real lives. So I'd like to ask the question here to you members of the Pub, when you come here, do you act like the character you wish to be seen as, or just be a name connected to you, but still in reality? I just read Hawkyns' post on another forum (SCA-Nautical - heartily recommended for anything nautical pre-17th century) about his 16th century kit, and it set me a-thinkin'... ...what era pirate are ye, and what sort of kit, or gear, do ye use fer yer impression? I mean, the whole shebang; weapons, working knives, hats, frock coats, tents, shirts, smoking items, bottles, lamps, pocket watches, quill pens, belaying pins, etc. Also, do you consider yourself primarily an historically authentic reenactor with a pirate persona? Or are you primarily a free-form pirate? To start the discussion: I'm a newbie, so don't have much stuff yet. I've got me sights set on being prima…
