The situation in Somalia is not unlike that in the Caribbean in the second half of the seventeenth century. As most of you know, piracy in the Caribbean had swelled to the point that the European governments effectively threw up their hands and adopted a policy of “if-you-can’t-beat-’em-join-’em.” Pirates were designated “privateers” when they bought or were otherwise granted a “letter of marque and reprisal” by their own governments. These were essentially licenses to prey upon the ships of nations with whom the issuing nation was at war, which, often as not in those days, was just about everybody. Somalia is similarly unable to stop the pirates, NATO help notwithstand…

Aye, What place is this I’ve stumbled upon? I been wanderin’ a vast wasteland of cyberspace, always with an eye out for a nice comfy tavern with friendly folk and the sweet scent of draught Guinness in the air. Have ye all room for one more? As I lurked a bit in the shadows I sees there’s others of me same ilk so let’s me step into the dim light and show me self. As I talk I must buy rounds for all ye. Line em up Mister Ray if you please. And when your glass is empty I’ll buy another as we know one’s not enough and there’s tales to tell. I goes by the moniker of Mick Moon and I be new in these parts so be patient with an ol’ pyrate workin’ on his wobbly sea legs. Ye can s…

With pick and shovel we started to dig for treasure buried neath the sand was hid When just a mere three feet down we hit a row of logs well set in carved in the wood were words of fear warnings and curses to not go near With backs set to it we dug them out and started to dig with a hunters shout for hunters we were, daring and bold searching for buried jewels and gold Suddenly as six feet told we came upon some bones of old covered in mud, mire and disease but something else did our eyes see Around ones neck a sign was hung with words forwarning that death would come To any and all who dug, it said That a curse upon his grave is laid We all took pause …

A Visit From Whitebeard 'Twas the night afore Christmas, and down below decks all the prisoners was sleepin'-with chains 'round their necks. A mutineer was hung from the yardarm with care so's all o' the others was sure to beware. The crew was all nestled below in their bunks: they slept just like babies-but smelled just like skunks. The mate with his cutlass, and me with me gun had just settled in for a long drink o' rum, when over the decks there arose such a clammer, I reached for me pistol, and pulled back the hammer. Away to the porthole I flew in a wink- I opened it wide, and I threw up me drink. The moon to the west was the probable source…

I think I could put this together in time for Ojai..It's a variant on something I used to have in my cube while in tech support: AVAST SIE LOOKENSPEEPERS!

Hello, Thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Andy Malcolm and I am the owner/craftsperson of Fire Dog Forge, a small weapons and armour manufacturing business. I am a self taught blacksmith and armourer with a passion of re-creating objects as authenticaly as possible. I am also a re-enactor who initially had an interest in Viking Age, but more recently have became more interested in ancient cultures such as that of Greece, Rome, Germany, and the Celts. I am currently trying to start a small re-enactment group in my town of Horsham (victoria, Australia) focusing on the celtic period 54BC. I hope to learn more of the pirate culture here on this forum and the wea…

When you fill in your bio with your birthday, it will automatically show up on your birthdate. (Don't know how to get to your bio? Just click on the above that says, My Controls-I might add this is a great way to get to know people- that is if they've put anything in their bios) We'd all love to say 'Happy Birthday' to many, but lots of times we just don't know who you are. Meaning, that unless you are a regular poster, it goes over the side of the ship into the deep sea. So if you want to be recognized don't be afraid to jump right in and yak with the rest of us about whatever the topic is. Cheers!

I don't know if he'd like me to show other stuff so, but i love this too. Cute artwork

http://www.unclejohns.com/skiff/Default.htm I was going to purchase their kit which is 130 for all the wood except the bottom and sides. I am also going to buy their rudder hardware but make my own sail since they only make blue and white(im gunna do black) Here are some pics of the kit done So has anyone ever attempted this? Im a bit worried about the fiberglassing for waterproofing part the rest I think I should be ok with. Has anyone ever fiberglassed something like this that could shoot me some pointers? Also, does anyone know where I can get old hooks and stuff that look like they are from the piratical times? I plan to paint it a wooden color(preferably fi…

Greetings, all, For an assortment of reasons, I haven't been around much. Largest of which was the achievement of a publishing contract, which dragged all my attention to the book instead of other diversions. But I'd back amongst you know, so if someone might pass me a mug of the finest, I'd be honored to join in again.

This is more of a question to do with the modern reenactor and festival-goer. When YOU go to faires, reenactments and festivals, what accent do you speak with? Does the character your portraying come from another nation besides the American colonies? Just curious, as I'm currently trying to find a nationality and accent that would fit my character. also, if this is the wrong subforum for this post, please feel free to move it.
