Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, or if there's already another thread about this somewhere. I'm still trying to get my bearings. So, I'm thinking of purchasing a pair of the Loyalist Arms GAoP shoes, and I wanted to get opinions from folks who have them or who have seen them. I'm curious to know how they fit, how they hold up to abuse, and generally how they look when worn. I've only seen a couple of pictures of people wearing them, and from what I've seen I really like them. From a thread I perused over on the Pirate Brethren forums, I understand that the fitting can be kinda' tricky. Has anyone here had this problem? Also, I'm undecided on whether to…

As noted in the "Ren-faire Vs. Re-enactment" thread, the idea of an adult-oriented, neither exclusively fantastic or exclusively historical and pirate-specific organization tailored to the expectations of the members of this site has been suggested, and seemed to garner at least some small element of support. The name "The Society for the Unwanted" has been suggested. I think it's grand name. So, I guess this is a thread were we can see who's interested, what we expect, how to organize and then see if the dang thing will even work.

A question for ye corsairs, do most of ye talk like pyrates every waking day in real life, or just on the 19th o' September? I sometimes forget me words and say things like "I plays" instead of "I play", or "me bucko" instead of "my friend", Among other things. Sometimes me pirate lingo comes out of me in real life without me thinkin' much.

Alrighty this be your final warning whoever the whore whelp is that was snoopin about the belly of my ship. (the flemish gallion on the second dock roped up to Rosalindas sloop you rancid chunk of fetid donkey mulch) ...That reminds me of a poem I heard in the bowels of Madrid by a fat lady barkeep with no hands.. "The old wind blows across the grey seas of ages, an the oars of time pass by unheard amid the driftwood an the weeds, thas where my heart lies..." The wine talkin *burp* poetrys for women and ladies boys with frilly garments an fancy city talk. When a mans bin on the o'ol salt chuck as long as Barquentine he gets lonely. Reeeeal lonely…

Avast me hearties. Whilst perusin' tha gift shop at tha San Diego Maritime Museum, I comes across a fun lil' book called The Pirate's Dictionary (by Terry Breverton). Me thinks it may be fun ta use this 'ere thread ta list some piratey phrases from time ta time an' give thar meanin's. Here be tha first listin'.... ABOVE BOARD: One origin of this phrase is that pirates hid "below board" if they were sneaking up on an unsuspecting merchantman. Pirate ships had up to 12 times the crew of an equivalent trading ship. If all the crew were ABOVE BOARD, all was fair and square.

Late in the day, and I realize how many serious posts I've either started or contributed to; so.....on to the fun stuff.... What pirate or buccaneer do you identify with the most and why? Mine would be Calico Jack. A lot of show, a lot of need for adventure and sometimes trying too hard to be THE pirate. He wasn't great, but he had a certain attraction about him that earned him a lot of attention and a faire bit of respect...up til the end, that is. He was a survivor, if not a great fighter or great pirate...but he did his best and had fun doing it.
