Yesterday I lost a friend to Breast Cancer. She detected a lump but didn't do anything about it until it was too late. From the time she went to the doctor right before Thanksgiving, it spread quickly to her liver and lungs. In less than two months she was gone. Nancy was just 38 years old and leaves behind a 9 year old daughter. I'm posting this as a reminder. For the ladies on the pub, I urge you to do self examinations routinely, and to have regular mammograms. For the guys on the pub, pass this message on to the women in your life. Breast Cancer can be beat with early detection. But it can also be devastating if it gets a chance and will spread with devastati…

While we can still experience bullies as adults this question is directed more toward your time spent in school. Were you the kid that was picked on because you were different or sought out for torture because you were weaker by bullies. Or did you prey about others as a bully? Do you have regrets either way? I know schools are always trying to curb the bullies but it never seems to go away. Most logic seems to be to notify the teachers but that only seems to provoke even a greater ammount of violence from the bullies as a reprisal. Woe be John should his mother call the school office about his torn shirt and bruised lip...

Since it was found in Austria, it's hardly piratical, but it *is* treasure (gold...GOLD...**GOLD**!!!), and it was buried, so here's the news story (I wonder if he's any relation...): Austrian Man Digs Up $150,000 in Buried Treasure in Backyard Published May 02, 2011 | Associated Press A trove of medieval jewelry and other precious objects found by a man working in his backyard includes pieces made for a royal court and may be worth as much as 100,000 euros ($150,000) government experts said Monday. The officials from Austria's department of national antiquities and the Academy of Sciences said they were only at the beginning of their investigation into the provenanc…

MSN Story of Witch Bottle Copy of story is below 17th century urine-filled 'witch bottle' found Discovery provides a unique insight into witchcraft beliefs of that period By Jennifer Viegas During the 17th century in England, someone urinated in a jar, added nail clippings, hair and pins, and buried it upside-down in Greenwich, where it was recently unearthed and identified by scientists as being the world's most complete known "witch bottle." This spell device, often meant to attract and trap negative energy, was particularly common from the 16th to the 17th centuries, so the discovery provides a unique insight into witchcraft beliefs of that period, according to …

I haven't posted much in the Pub lately (well I do check in almost daily, just to see what's going on......)... But that is because I've been getting ready to go to Burning Man again this year..... This will be my fourth burn. I've posted about going to Burning Man before in Airship Pyrates, but this year I won't be going Steampunk, so it dosen't fit there anymore. This year Martie (some of you may remember her at PiP last year) and I are making a Barbaric Splendor Camp.... (kind of a mix of Celtic, Sythain and Mongolain with a bit of Conanish stuff tossed in for color....total fantacy, but it looks cool...) 20 Days.....and I still have a buncha stuff to finish.... h…

Who would you trust more? I bought and sold alot of cars privately, but always wondered about those "carmax" type companies. Especially since the hurricanes from the mid-south and the gulf, I've seen reports of companies trying to refab those vehicles that have been waterlogged in the various floods. Some have even been reported as turning up in the Mid-atlantic states. Yes, buyer beware, but should we have to run a carfax for each vehicle we are looking a? So I put the question to you, would you fell more comfortable buying a used car from a used lot or from a private seller?

I thought some of you might enjoy the offerings from this antique house. They offer some excellent maritime antiques, though most if not all of it is later than our period focus. http://www.campaignfurniture.com/ The latest exhibit has a motor cycle and a sea chest that I want. http://www.campaignfurniture.com/exhpdfs/ClarkeSchotten2011%20v1.pdf

Hey all, I thought I'd ask you guys this question because I look up to a lot of you and know alot of you are good people. I moved into a home through a friend, well someone who I thought was my friend. Said friend is renting and as far as I know there are only two people on the lease, her and her son. I've been living in this house which resides in Kirkland WA for the past few months, two or three give or take. There are four people living in this house including myself that are not on the lease and never mentioned to the landlord so I know she is violating her lease terms. Yesterday (yes thanksgiving) she told me to get out and said I only have three days. Three days i…

I have had the pleasure of communicating with Captain Midnight through his mySpace email. I inquired about his absence. He has been very busy organizing his life and tending to family matters before he leaves the country. He has taken a job in Iraq and will be leaving early in January. He expressed his disappointment that life has caused him to fall behind in the orders for my forge "business" (read hobby that pays for his hobby). He reassured me that all orders will be filled "I will definitely deliver what I promised". He asked if I "would you be so kind as to ask our fellow Watch Dog crew members to keep me in their thoughts and prayers? I haven't had much time t…

So I went in to Wally World the other day seeking something to watch and found the movie Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush. Had not seen it before, it looked intresting and it was five dollars. So I take it up to the counter to check out and the Lady cards me. The movie is rated R. I told her I was old enough to buy the movie that I was 34 and she glared at me and said she HAD to see my ID, otherwise I was not taking it home. So I showed her my ID to which she studies it and glances up at me and finally hands it back and rings it up. But she still acted like I had given her a false ID. Im not sure if I should have been flattered or insulted .

Since the Raids forum does not allow us to post events, thought I would stick this one here. Tomorrow is Carnevale in Venice Beach California. Here is the website for information: Carnevale - Venice Beach Patrick, One of the troupes performing is Mutaytor (Grand Finale)...thought maybe you would be familiar with them, since they perform and steampunk type of events and at Burning Man. My beau and I are going to attend in traditional Carnevale type of costuming...with a pyrate flair to it.

Can I bring dental floss in my carry-on luggage, or is it considered a lethal weapon these days? Can you actually garotte someone with dental floss, or would it break first?
