Thought with the new year travel season coming some of us may be making plans for a vaca.. My two best trips were Bermuda and Paris. Bermuda was a dream. I had been all through the Carribean, but this island was just right. Mainly because tourism is so low down on their "economically importat" list. Plus it was the first real trip away I took with a guy in a long time and everything was so new. I wanted to retire there.Stayed in a small expensive couples only all inclusive..drank all their baileys, slept through breakfast and had afternoon tea instead. The beach was outstanding and we put 225 miles on the scooter for two that came with the room. That's a lot on such a s…

After 12 years of costuming, I finally received my first "Best Workmanship" award at ShoreLeave this past July. It actually was a shared title with a guy who did Jack Sparrow. Believe you me that I was quite shocked when my name was called. My son wanted to be a character from one of his video games (he is 7 yrs old) and I told him ok. The Character he wanted to be was "Yunsung" from Soul Caliber II. I started in February and worked most weekends right on up to July 10. I don't know how many times I looked at the 360 degrees in the video game. Here are some pictures: Yunsung on wall Yunsung - front view I have only received two other awards for workmanship i…

Hey mates, I'm a bit crazy around the edges, as you can see by this post. I recently made a fansite for Blenheim Ginger Ale (ever heard of it?). I know the tendency of pirates toward strong drink, so to promote my new venture, I managed to get my friend Blackbeard to do a promo of sorts: Better than Rum and Gunpowder.

(apparently I can't copy and paste this without the numbers... anyway, funny/stupid jokes about pirates if you find yourself bored and I mean REALLY bored, it's a long list. Found these as I search for more pyrate stupidity. Cheers) A pirate does not ask for directions. He relies only on his gut feeling, a compass, or a treasure map. Parrots are the preferred pirate companion. Monkeys are an acceptable substitute, unless they fling their feces at people. Then they are an awesome substitute. When fishing, a pirate uses either a sword, a knife, or his bare hands. Use of a hook is only acceptable in the event the pirate is missing a hand. Pirates shal…

Should we be concerned about the Bilgemunky show of shows? From... http://blog.wired.com/music/2007/04/sign_t...the_petiti.html Save Internet Radio From Perishing on May 15th There are a number of petitions floating around that you can sign to express your support for webcasters in the face of the disastrous royalty rates decided on and recently upheld by the Copyright Royalty Board. Those in support of internet radio should sign the official petition at savenetradio.org. The site also offers directions for musicians and music fans to contact their Congressional representative. This is important; Congress could act before May 15th, when the rates are scheduled to g…

I got to go out sailing this past weekend. I was on a crew of three on a 27'er. I am new to sailing these bigger boats and it was a lot of fun. I got to hoist the main and work the helm. When it came time to tack the Captain let me steer. I ran the turn and he and the other crew worked the jib. When we finished the Captain said that that was done so well that I must be Blackbeard reborn. I have to say that I loved that.

Everyone here in Raleigh thinks I'm crazy but it's for a great cause. To raise money for the Special Olympics I have agreed to repell over 30 stories from the roof of the Wachovia building in downtown Raleigh as Blackbeard. The target goal for this to happen is $1000.00. That comes out to only $1 a member of the pub. Please help me reach the goal of $1000 by going to www.firstgiving.com/chrissuttle Every little bit helps. Fundraiser ends Oct. 1 so please go check out the site as soon as you can. If every member gave only $1 it would be the largest amount raised by one group ever for this event. I will post video of the "decent" if I reach the goal by the deadline. Thank…

I just need 600 pirates to give $1 each and I'll hit my goal for Special Olympics. Or 300 pirates to give $2 each and, well you get my point. I need $600 more by Oct 1. It really is for a great cause and I am truly grateful to my pirate brethren who have helped out so far. Now I just need a reason to thank the rest of you. Please go to www.firstgiving.com/chrissuttle to help out.

I am limited in my pet peaves to just a few golden calves which I worship with great zeal. Blurry pictures. Why do people post them? "Look! I just got back from Russia and I posted my headache-indusing, miasmic-half-lit, FBI-Satellite-image-from-the-50s, family photo album!" Sorry. I just got out of a thread where a guy posted over 70+ blurry images of his trip. It looks like a drug trip. Why do people post the lousy shots? Especially when they outnumber the good ones? Why? No, really. Why?

This article got me thinking: http://shine.yahoo.com/event/fallbeauty/image-of-ultra-thin-ralph-lauren-model-sparks-outrage-521480/ I don't think I will get any argument that the media portrayal of what we are supposed to find as "attractive" has become only ever more distorted over time. And yet.... Remarkable similarity in some respects.

A collection of terms that every beer drinker should know. Bait-and-switch - When an attractive person invites you to his or her table then steers you to a less attractive friend. Barley sandwich - Beer for lunch. Also called a slurp sandwich. Bayonetting the wounded - Gamely drinking the half-finished beers the morning after a party. Booze coupons - Money. Bedspins - The variety of spins that occur while lying prone. Putting one foot on the floor usually helps. If you are already on the floor, may God have mercy on your soul. This sort of goes hand-in-hand with the Pirate Bar Necessities topic however I want to keep the two topics separate. As we get closer and closer to completion on my pirate bar it has become apparent that the room itself is quite plain and that it will be the decorations and accents that will give the room "life". Which leads me to my dart board cabinet: As you can see the case itself is pretty plain. And since 90% of the room is wood toned it sort of gets lost. So we're trying to brainstorm ways to liven it up a bit. A few ideas we have are making a smaller version of my 3D wood Jolly Roger and just splitting it in so the doors can open. Or I can make the s…

Interesting e-mail running around the net as to what freezing the balls off a brass monkey really means. Anybody have any info to back this up or dash it? -Greydog XXXXXXXXXXXXXX CANNON BALLS!!! DID YOU KNOW THIS? It was necessary to keep a good supply of cannon balls near the cannon on old war ships. But how to prevent them from rolling about the deck was the problem. The storage method devised was to stack them as a square based pyramid, with one ball on top, resting on four, resting on nine, which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in small area right next to the cannon. There was only one problem -- how to prevent the bottom l…
