Everyone here in Raleigh thinks I'm crazy but it's for a great cause. To raise money for the Special Olympics I have agreed to repell over 30 stories from the roof of the Wachovia building in downtown Raleigh as Blackbeard. The target goal for this to happen is $1000.00. That comes out to only $1 a member of the pub. Please help me reach the goal of $1000 by going to www.firstgiving.com/chrissuttle Every little bit helps. Fundraiser ends Oct. 1 so please go check out the site as soon as you can. If every member gave only $1 it would be the largest amount raised by one group ever for this event. I will post video of the "decent" if I reach the goal by the deadline. Thank…

Fot those of you who don't know about my situation I am still unemployed due to several surgues I had to gfo through due to my back and left hip. While money has been tight this year because of that something has come up that is more important to me than money and I need help. My sister is a missionary and has wanted to be one since the 7th grade. She has spent her whole life devoted to Christ and the work of Insight Missions in California which is where she lives now. Two years ago her and her husband were told that my sister cannot have a child. They applied for adoption and found a mother that was about to give birth and everything seemed like it was going great. …

Can't believe the sensitivity of some businessmen and politicians. What the hell are they thinking? Subject: Wind Farm Behind the French Castle Date: Wed, 21 Jul 2010 11:12:14 -0400 Old Fort Niagara needs your help. The New York Power Authority proposes to install a wind farm off the Lake Ontario shore directly behind the 1726 French Castle. See the link below. The first step in opposing this intolerable affront to the Fort's historical character will come on next Tuesday evening (7/27) when we have asked the Niagara County Legislature to adopt a resolution opposing Power Authority's plan. We do not oppose wind power, only the construction of these mass…

http://www.760kfmb.com/Global/story.asp?S=12829620 (Story from above link is below) Man falls to death off Star of India By News 8's Steve Price (7/18/10) SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - There was tragedy at the Star of India Sunday, when a volunteer working on the ship fell about 40 feet and died. Witnesses say Greg Gushaw was up in the sails when he fell, hit his head on the ship and landed in the water. Fellow crew members quickly got him out of the water and CPR was started, but Gushaw was pronounced dead at the hospital. Gushaw was taking part in a training operation at the time designed to get everyone up to speed for a sail this November. The president of the M…

Last week Cleveland OH played host to the Tall Ships Festival. Cleveland is also host to the USS Cod Submarine Memorial. An old college friend of mine volunteers at the Cod, and the submarine saluted the ships as they came in. Scott informs me they used a blend of welding gas and oxygen in the sub's 5 inch desk gun, instead of shells. (Tthat gun's about 60 years old, and *I* wouldn't trust it with shells, blank or live...and I'm not entirely sure I'd trust Scott with any sort of ammo). I've requested permission and received it to post this Youtube clip for all of us to enjoy...

Not sure how many of you have viewed or follow "Deadliest Catch" on the Discovery Channel but these past couple of episodes have been rather emotional. They've been following the last days of late Phil Harris, Captain of the Cornilia Marie. Tuesday will be the 2 hour farewell episode to this amazing Captain of the Berring Sea. He has the wisdom and callous of a well seasoned pirate captain with a great respect for the sea. The episodes have been just as rough as the Berring Sea itself but they have been well worth watching in honor and respect for the late Berring Sea Captain. ~Lady B

I found this link on another forum, but figured that others may find it interesting.... OK... the links don't load quite right (when the first one is done, just wait and the next should load)..... but it is a TV series about people that like to dress up.... (hey... we do that as Pyrates...) and they handle the different groups without getting snarky about it.... cool http://current.com/shows/the-current-countdown/92367212_dressed-for-action-part-1.htm Chaps (guys that like to dress up "nicely"), Super Heroes, LARPers, Animie, and cross dressers (the High heal/Drag race is kinda funny...)

I'm curious, who here smokes and what? I smoke all natural sun dried American tobacco in a brier wood pipe and I also smoke, on special occasions, Grenadier cigars. The pipe I started smoking because of my grandpa, the cigars I started smoking because of my brother. Also I found out General Patton smoked the same type of cigar so that made me like them a little more. Once I smoke the cigar down enough, I split it open and smoke the remaining tobacco through my pipe. I tried cigarettes, I didn't really care for them. When I did try them I smoked "Capri"(something my brother smokes) and I tried Marlboro due to my uncle. Neither of them compare to the pipe or the cigar. I a…

I came across the term 'Fop Rock' on wikipedia because I was looking at some info on Adam Ant. So let me give you guys a definition: "A more recent and minor trend is "fop-rock," in which the performers don 18th century wigs, lace cravats, and similar costumes to perform, a minor movement that would appear to owe something to glam rock, visual kei, and the New Romantic movement. Adam Ant of Adam and the Ants would seem to be a forerunner of the trend, who occasionally performed in elaborate highwayman outfits. Other notable examples would be Falco's performance as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the song "Rock Me Amadeus," a #1 hit in the US and the UK, and #2 in Canada in …

I'm sure we all have a pirate music playlist on our ipods or on our computers. I'm sure we all have soundtracks from pirate movies/musicals, sea shanties, drinking songs, classical music, pirate metal/rock, etc, BUT do you have some other stuff on your pirate playlist that isn't really pirate music but it just happens to fit in anyway? List it! - "Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner" by Iron Maiden - "Barracuda" by Heart - Various Beach Boys songs - "Jolly Roger" by Adam Ant - "Ito Eats" and "Blue Hawaii" by Elvis - "Down by The Water" by PJ Harvey - "Seven Seas of Rhye" by Queen - "Come Sail Away" by Styx - Gilligan's Island Theme Song - "Singapore", "Shiver Me Timber…

hey folks. below is an email floating around one of the ropemaking sites i subscribe to. while not pirate related, its darned neat footage of the wright brothers and the instrument discussed is a simple piece of line. neat stuff all the same. -dutch Do you know what was the first flight instrument? STRING! Wilbur Wright used a piece of string - called a yaw string - as early as their 1902 glider. It was used to gauge their sideslip angle. I edited this little video from original 1908-1909 footage of the Wright brothers' flights in Europe. At the end of the video you can see the first film footage ever taken from an airplane - and you can clearly see the yaw string dangl…
